More mediocre banality by Gerry Duggan with this title. I think, for me, I just don't get this version of Wade; it's just random violence and random chat. The original run was so much smarter, as was Wade himself. This book, the title could not be more apt, so much poor plotting, despicable, sorry! 3 out of 12.

In return for Stryfe saving the Prestons from Madcap's virus, Deadpool has to kill 4 people for Stryfe. First up is Cable. Lots of janky time-travel in this one. I wasn't the biggest fan of the arc or the artist. I miss the Deadpool who struggles to do the right thing.

Started out pretty good, but soon turned into a dull and convoluted mess, which wasn't even that funny. I keep wanting to like Deadpool in comics, but it just doesn't ever happen for me.

20th book read in 2018.

Number 369 out of 680 on my all time book list.

Starts weak - gets better. Not the best Deadpool.

Standard Deadpool stuff, silly and violent. The writing and art is what I expect and its fine. its just more of the same from the past Deadpool stuff I have read. The fact Cable is in this is the real reason I wanted to read it, I like Cable and the history between them. Where I start to roll my eyes is when time travel gets involved.... I know I know its the essence of Cable but still its a little wonky here.

[Read as single issues]
Deadpool needed help saving his daughter and Agent Preston's family from a deadly disease inflicted upon them by Madcap - in his desperation, he turned to Cable's evil clone Stryfe for help. Now, Stryfe is calling in the favour. His first request? Kill Cable!

Poor Deadpool continues his downward spiral after the events of Secret Empire have basically made him the least liked person in the Marvel Universe (although he's probably used to that). He's low on money, low on friends, and low on ways to avoid Stryfe's deal. He tries some pretty innovative ones, but it all ends to one inevitable ending - until Cable himself turns up and tries to help. I'd have loved to see Duggan explore a Cable & Deadpool series, because he has their relationship down. It's also a testement to how much Wade values their friendship that he tries so hard to get out of his bargain with Stryfe. Of course, it's all downhill from here...

Scott Koblish, who has been pencilling the fill-in time-jump issues of Deadpool since Duggan and Posehn took over the series makes the jump to regular artist for Despicable Deadpool, and it's nice to see that his 'usual' style is just as good as when he tries to tackle different time period styles. Everyone's a bit gangly, but he has great expression in his characters and some good comic timing which is essential for a Deadpool book.

If this is the first thing Stryfe asked for, you know that his list is only going to get harder, but this is exactly where Gerry Duggan thrives.

Overall, this is a pretty fun read. I'm not ordinarily a fan of Marvel time travel stories but, given the nature of the characters involved, it worked for me.

My biggest quibble would have to be the art. It left a lot to be desired. Too sketchy and no strong sense of composition. A different artist, one more suited to writer Gerry Duggan, might have made this a four-star book.

After the events of Secret Empire Deadpool is no longer a hero. Which is fine as Deadpool is in debut to the villainous Stryfe who wants him to do something very unheroic- kill his old colleague Cable.

The plot, though weaving through time thanks to time travel, is not very elegant. Indeed, it largely consists of Deadpool and Cable fighting which though is quite amusing does get boring quiet quickly.

A couple of time travel ideas are really well implemented. At one point Deadpool goes back into the recent past to when Stryfe helped him and it's interesting to see a replication of events we've already seen and how Deadpool can't change them. The final solution to killing Cable is also really clever, one of Duggan's best ideas yet.

I did feel more could be done with the time travel idea with opportunities to attempt to change other parts of the recent past or go into the future we've seen in the Deadpool 3000 plot. The trouble with having time travel in your story is that the audience is always going to feel disappointed if it's only used a handful of times.

What this volume lacked was some substance. There was a real opportunity to explore Deadpool's actions in Secret Empire and other recent volumes and reflect on them- I could imagine Deadpool and Cable talking it out in their own special way. That doesn't really happen though and it's all "kill, kill, joke, joke" which is fine because that's what Deadpool has always been but Duggan has added a new dimension to the character which isn't seen so much here.

As much as I have really loved Duggan's run on this series I am beginning to think he may have run out of idea for it so it's perhaps no bad thing he is moving on soon. An OK volume but nothing spectacular.

The reign of the Despicable Deadpool begins with this volume that takes place immediately after the events of Secret Empire!

SPOILERS:

The reign of HYRDA Cap has been thwarted. But the damage has been done. The public still doesn't forgive or trust the true Captain America. Wade Wilson has been declared and enemy of the state! And the Preston family is in serious disrepair.

On the run, Deadpool now must complete a series of 4 murders in repayment of his debt to Stryfe. His first target: Cable!

I must admit when I first heard that Deadpool was going back to a baddie, I was afraid that he was going to loose all of the elements that led to me falling in love with the character over the past couple of years. Thankfully, he's the same old Merc with a Mouth- he just doesn't give a damn anymore!

Another thing that should have led me to not worry is the fact that Gerry Duggan is still penning the further adventures o Deadpool. The quality of the stories haven't diminished and Scott Koblish continues to pencil the series in his 'pen is mightier than the sword' ways.

Though it's a more gruff Deadpool, everybody's favorite mutant- besides Wolverine, and Cable, and Kitty Pryde, and Storm, and Professor X...(okay, I could go on for ever)- anyways Wade Wilson is still in very talented hands and this is a series very much Worth Consuming!

By changing the title to "Despicable Deadpool", you'd think they were just trying to relaunch the book, starting with a Volume 1, either to drive up sales of the title, further confuse the Marvel readers about the order of the continuity, or both. When actually.... this book is a huge change of pace for the character. More recently, the Deadpool comic has been about comedy and hijinks and some other slightly confusing storylines. With "Despicable", they keep the typical Deadpool humor, but ramp up the violence significantly! (The back of the Volume even has a "Parental Advisory" label on it...)
Looking at the title of the Volume AND knowing that Wade was previously dealing with Stryfe, gives you a very basic plotline of this book. Deadpool, trying to fulfill his commitment to Stryfe, is off to kill Cable. Cable is extremely hard to kill.... maybe cut off his cyborg arm and hack into it to use the time travel functions? Maybe go to a kind of "Citadel of Cables'" to find someone who can give you information on how to fool Stryfe? Make a stop to meet "Old Man Cable"? (LOL only in a Deadpool comic)
We end with a potential number two target: the imposter Steve Rogers from the Secret Empire storyline has been found...

Loving this new (return to old) direction for Deadpool. Looking forward to Volume 2.
High recommend.

I to tu czuć.

currently in the middle of reading the original Cable and Deadpool/Deadpool and Cable whatever you wanna call it and reading this just made me upset. Boring. Like YES Deadpool is an asshole but I dont like how they characterized him in this. Also the way they made cable or deadpool say to each other "we've been through a lot together" but like it was so pointless? like they would just say that and not elaborate or acknowledge anything relevant or of importance. Maybe it's because I haven't read anything else of whatever storyline this is from but it just felt very pointless while I was reading it especially compared to how i feel when reading Cable and Deadpool. The good thing is that the art was very good. I recognized a lot of the images from online. So yeah and personally I like the style it's like a mix of cute and rough. And Cable is hot as ever (sorry).

Deadpool is blackmailed by Stryfe into killing Cable but, thanks to time-travel, that's not as straightforward as Wade expects.

This book is someone disingenuously labelled as Book 1 but is, in fact, about Book 20. This means that we're dropped right into events with little backstory or explanation and expected to understand what's going on and why.
That wouldn't be such a problem if this book wasn't written so incoherently.

Time-travel shenanigans are always a challenge to pull off successfully and here Duggan totally fails to do so, falling into every multiversal non-causality pothole that it's possible to hit.
The result is an absolute mess of a story that doesn't even have any convincing emotional beats or a satisfying payoff.

It's the first time I've read Deadpool and well, its really him. Every element of him is in there: fun and wit which gives me the laughs (especially the fourth wall thing), action packed scenes, R-rated theme and of course excitement. Though there is something missing in this story arc, something that feels a bit lacking. I don't know what it is but there is always an empty feeling on me whenever I feel there's missing. Also, this story arc feels a bit confusing; maybe I will reread it some other time. But no doubt this is a fun read.

In the last two issues in this collection, it really starts to pick up. That Deadpool humor begins to come through, and it's quite an enjoyable ride.

The first 3 issues, however, are mostly action and little to no humor. This volume has a weak, rather dull start. The art is terrific, but as readers we're out in the woods on what is going on from the get-go. This makes it difficult to push through.

I'm glad I didn't quit though. Like I said, it gets better. Perhaps volume 2 will be firing on all cylinders.

This is just stupid.

I mean, I know that's the point, but it feels like Duggan (and Marvel, because no comic rests on one creator) could quit acting Deadpool is this unique and wonderful thing, and treat him like the storytelling device he is. Maybe go back and check some of Byrne's She-Hulk run, or even Lobo from the 90s, or hell, Ambush Bug, Not Brand Echh, What The--?!, etc. Feels like we used to know how to do gratuitous violence and humor.

Bah.

Deadpool has a history unlike most. Deadpool, you hate him until you need him and then you need him and he doesn't remember why he is trying to kill you. I really enjoyed the artwork, bloody, great fight scenes and even a few turns in the story. A few characters lost some limbs, and Deadpool goes home to his "safe house" and now I have this song ("any way you want it--that's the way you need it!") stuck in my head. Thanks Deadpool!

This book can't quite figure out the premise. When we last left Deadpool, he agreed to do a favor for Stryfe in exchange or life-saving medicine. But now it seems like he's permanently employed by Stryfe even thought Stryfe knows he will constantly be betrayed? And Stryfe wants it like that?

Why didn't Stryfe just hold Deadpool's family hostage if that was the plan? Why wait for happenstance?

There's some cute action, but I can't figure out if Deadpool is a hostage or an employee or what.

A bit of a letdown after the phenomenal last volume. Deadpool is at his wits end and has to kill a friend to settle a marker and keep his family safe. The book didn't have near the gravitas as last volume and it never felt like the stakes were high despite the subject matter. The final battle was less than stellar. I also didn't love Scott Koblish's art at times. Overall, hoping for better as we move forward but this didn't hit the highs.

I found this one farely boring.
The beginning was fun with cable predicting what deadpool was gonna do and him being oh so unhinged.
But all the talking to the different versions of cable and just switching sides. I just wasn’t invested.
There were some really funny moments because it’s deadpool that I enjoyed. But otherwise meh.

I wouldn't necessarily take this one too seriously; it goes into crazy vampire dinosaur stuff somewhere in the middle, and it isn't too easy to follow a lot of the time (which happens with time travel but was particularly wild here). But it was quite fun, and it made me more interested in collecting the other editions of this series!

I really need to learn to buy whole story lines instead of random issues, but still really enjoyed this issue. I’ve only just ‘met’ Cable in Deadpool 2 so it was interesting to explore more of him in this comic.
Great first Deadpool comic to read, just as violent and bloody as I was expecting!

Sometimes time travel works really well. Other times it’s used as an excuse to introduce nonsensical twists, which introduce several plot holes that distract from the point of the story. This was somehow both incoherent and boring.

Heck, what a fuck happened in this.......so much happened and this was my first Deadpool comic and my first marvel comic, so let's just say I was a tad bit confused. Can anyone let me know what's the best way to start Deadpool? Thanks.

I love Deadpool comics from he's a bit of a good guy... Buuuuuutttt I also love it when he stops holding back in the murder department. The time traveller battle in the middle was kind of silly but over all, it's a good read.

Continues off of the previous Deadpool series. Deadpool is indebted to Stryfe for saving his family, and the first thing Stryfe wants is for Deadpool to kill Cable. Violent and bloody, this definitely leans into Deadpool going back to being a villain.

Dead pool is Evil again! Or at least he's acting evil.

Lots of shooting and joking...along with proving he is not as stupid as you think.
