MONTANA SKY JUSTICE

Book Nine in the Montana Sky Series

K.C. Granger is the sheriff of Sweetwater Springs. Since she was five, K.C. has dressed like a man and been treated as such. She’s efficient at her job and has garnered the respect of the inhabitants of Sweetwater Springs.

Red Charlie is a Blackfoot Indian and the blacksmith of Sweetwater Springs. He’s silently battled the prejudice against him by doing his job in a competent manner and handling slurs with dignity.

When reports of Indian thievery begin, K.C. enlists Red Charlie as her deputy, even traveling with him to the nearest reservation and taking needed supplies for the starving people. The two of them settle into a comfortable working relationship. K.C. doesn’t know what to do with the womanly emotions of love she grows to feel for her deputy, and Red Charlie believes a relationship with an Indian will only bring trouble to the woman he admires. Then a marauding gang takes over the town, and danger threatens everything they love.

Montana Sky Justice by Debra Holland

Sheriff KC Granger’s story from the Montana Sky series. Historical sweet romance although the romance part is only a small percentage of the overall length.
9th book in the series. Can be read as a standalone but it’s better appreciated if you’ve read prior books. In particular, there are appearances by many prior characters such as Seth and Trudy from the Mail-Order Brides, some of the children from the various families, Andre Bellaire, banker Caleb, dressmaker Constance and Dr Angus as well as the Reverend Norton.

In this story, the town has a fundraiser in conjunction with a celebration but bank robbers interrupt and manage to make it out of town. Sheriff Granger and various members from the community form a posse to hunt the robbers down.
We learn some of the Sheriff’s past as well as some of the rigors of the old west.
I fell in love with the child Walter. He knows he has a job to do as instructed by his father, but his joy with the puppy, his appreciation of a baked potato and his worry over Deputy Chogan prove his heart is pure and good.

I alternated between the audible version and a bit of the kindle version. Listening to these historical stories by narrator Laura Asmundson is like a soothing stress reliever. Peaceful and heartwarming.

A little less romance.

Her books seem to have a little less romance throughout the books. The first books had a lot more attraction and deeper feelings between the characters. They seem to have "lost that lovin' feeling" which makes for more shallow characters. Her earlier books were just better.

The town of Sweet Water Springs is the place where the story of Sheriff K C Granger and Chogan “Red Charlie”come alive. The stories are very vivid and detailed and you can see the landscape, feel the snow and fall in love with the town and its people. Montana Sky Justice was a good story with really bad characters and really good characters. This is a time when good was good and bad was bad and you knew where you stood. The story was so much about how tough Sheriff Granger was and very little between her and Chogan. Sheriff Grnger instincts about the guys coming into town selling special soap with money wrapped was a scam she smelled a mile away. She forces the snake oil salesman to donate to the bank like he promised. This same group later on decides to do something even bigger will Sheriff Granger stop them and save the town of Sweet Water Springs?

I really liked this story it captured the time period well and I like that the main character was a female sheriff she was strong with grit. I will go back and read the whole series at some point in the near future.

Could there possibly be anymore going on in this series? Another Big hit for Debra Holland.

Wow what a ride this new story from author Debra Holland has been. I couldn't put this book down. There is so much going on and getting to revisit with so many characters from Sweetwater Springs and Morgan Crossing was phenomenal and greatly appreciated by this reader. I loved this story and with so much going on with the festival to villainy to romance where that even had a chance to sneak in I don't really know but it did. Wow there is so much going on in this story that is still going through my mind.
I think this probably now my favorite story in this series and I have read them all. Amazing story line, characters old, new characters, and great writing makes for an awesome story. I highly recommend this story and it's so good you won't regret buying it. If you have read any of Debra Holland's Montana Sky series start at the beginning and go to this authors website to find a list of these stories in order including a separate but made for this series Mail Order Brides of the West which are very much a part of this series and another author's Montana series.

Returning to Sweetwater Springs

It is always a joy for me to return to Sweetwater Springs and it’s cast of characters. While this is KC Granger’s and Charlie Red Wolf’s story, almost everyone from Sweetwater Springs and Morgan’s Crossing shows up for the Harvest Festival even the bad guys.

Neither Sheriff Granger nor Red Charlie fit the mold that society or people want them in.

“You’ll always deal with certain people….” He paused. “Who will be judgmental and critical…. However, such behavior says more about who those people are than who you are.”

If you have read some or all of the previous novels, this will feel like a family reunion. If this is your first story in this world, the author gives you just enough background on the characters to see how they fit and in the “Dear Reader” she identifies which story everyone appeared in so you can go back and read those that interested you.

We return to Sweet Water Springs for the story of Sheriff K C Granger and Chogan “Red Charlie”. I have read all the books in this series and have thoroughly enjoyed them. This author is a great storyteller and knows her history regarding this time period. The stories are very vivid and detailed and you can see the landscape, feel the snow and fall in love with the town and its people. Montana Sky Justice was a good story with really bad characters and really good characters. This is a time when good was good and bad was bad and you knew where you stood. That being said this book is one of my least favorites of the series as there was very little romance between the hero and heroine. The story was so much about how tough Sheriff Granger was and very little between her and Chogan, however, I did like Chogan’s character.

This was a great story and it was fun to be reacquainted with and remember old friends from the other books in this series! Little Walter stole my heart and I loved Seth’s recounting of his choice of bride! KC is a remarkable and strong woman and Chogan is the perfect compliment to her personality, but how can it work that a white woman could be with an Indian man? Debra creates a town, situation, and family where anything is possible!
As always Lara is the perfect narrator for this series! She easily pronounces the Blackfoot language, gently rolls out the Scottish brogue, distinguishes between the men, women, and children, and keeps the story intriguing! I love her cadence as well.

Debra offered me a copy of this audiobook! I have enjoyed many others in this series and my reviews are always 100% my own opinions!

As a woman, KC Granger is an unusual choice for sheriff in this 1890s frontier town, but she's formidable. Red Charlie, whose name is Chogan, is the blacksmith, and because of his tracking skills, KC often deputizes him to help her. So they've developed a fine working relationship and are fond of each other, as well. In this story, the town is attacked by a criminal band, and the Sheriff and Chogan lead a posse to apprehend them. I enjoyed the characterization, descriptions, etc., but it was less a romance and more an old west crime novel. Also, it was very slow going, with certain scenes being replayed from the viewpoints of different characters involved. By the time we reached the HEA, I was skimming. Not her best.

The story we've been waiting for!

I feel great compassion for authors working on The Book in a series that fans have been eagerly awaiting. The pressure can get intense. Debra Holland delivers the good in Sheriff K.C. Stranger's story. I was eating up the pages, the suspense building and found myself in tears at the real emotions played out among so many of the characters we know and love. Although K.C. is one of the more enigmatic characters, she has a tender heart under her tough, capable appearance. Like all of the Montana Sky books, it ended perfectly and yet, too soon!

Love reading Montana Sky series

Debra Holland is quite an author. She introduces them, then gives them backgrounds and add as they grow. Add in a few mail order brides, a beautiful woman just meeting her wealthy father, she is part negro...her father never knew about her. Stir in some outlaws, cause this IS the wild west. Interested ? I hope so. Enjoy Montana Sky Justice. Then beg Debra Holland to write more.

My favorite!

One of things I love about the series is the authors way of making her characters true to their time period. I love her description of the town and its inhabitants. This book is in my opinion even better as we see a female sheriff defend the town. By her side is an Indian deputy and both face trials a man of white race would not. The story was a page turner full of excitement but also full of those tender moments that made this couple a family at the end.

KC and Chogan are a perfect pair

I stopped reading before the bank robbery because I was apprehensive about something bad happening in Sweetwater Springs.
When I returned to the story I was determined to find out what resulted. The bad guy was a surprise from a previous story but I won't give it away here. As always I enjoyed visiting Sweetwater Springs and look forward to more stories.

Great Story!

This was a very interesting book. The author worked hard to create a believable story, nice romance, while she included many of the characters from other stories she added new characters. She went to special care to research Blackfoot words and traditions. She gave us insight into the tomboy Sheriff. And she gave three perspectives to create the climax. This was a very enjoyable story.

K.C. & Chogan

K.C. Granger is the female Sheriff of Sweetwater Srings, Montana. Chogan (Red Charley) is the local blacksmith, and a Blackfoot Indian. K.C. has occasionally used Chogan as a deputy, but has also deputised a number of additional area men for a festival/fundraiser.

Plotting & characterization are good.

Montana Sky series....

Montana sky Justice is the latest in Deborah Hollands on going town of sweet water springs. I've read them all and enjoyed their familiar cast of people as they have been added. Having said that
I also find myself recognizing the pattern used in common.
I will be looking forward to another series she will grace us with...

Best of the series

The best book of the series. Loved the story of KC and Chogan. Both characters had been introduced in earlier books. The major characters were developed with many layers. The storyline was good including many characters from previous books. Hard to wait for the next book in the series.

Integrity, Commitment

At a time when the Indian was considered inferior, there was a woman who could see the person not the race. Also, at a time when women were considered generally for their homemaking skills, this woman was the town sheriff. A wonderful story about overcoming stereotypes, serving community, and falling in love. A great book for adults and young adults.

Female Western Justice

The main storyline in this book centered around a female sheriff in the little up and coming town of Sweetwater Springs. While female law enforcement wasn't the norm, it did happen occasionally. I could tell from the beginning where the love connection was going, but all in all the book held my interest and was truly enjoyable.

Great read

I have only read a couple of Zane Grey books but thoroughly enjoyed them. I have enjoyed the Montana Sky series and especially this one. It combines the great love story that I have always loved about Debra Holland's books and the rugged, and sometimes violent, gun play of a good Zane Grey novel. A really good treat for readers. I highly recommend this book.

Family reunion...in a good way

Excellent writing as always and thank goodness KC gets her man. I almost gave up hope. Wonderful, wonderful and satisfying getting to "catch up" with most...not all of Ms. Hollands characters. Read the book!
