After escaping from their sabotaged plane and avoiding a crash, Six, Sam, and their new charges manage to make it to the Human Garde Academy and meet up with Nine. Instead of continuing their investigation, though, the Garde decide they must take on the dangerous new foe who has abducted their friends and allies.
But the trail has gone cold, and the only way to find their enemy is to infiltrate his organization. Against Six and Sam’s better judgement, they send Rena and Nemo undercover. But things take a frightening turn when the two young teens are forced to play a deadly game, and Six and Sam may not be able to reach them in time.
God! Who wrote this? Because clearly it wasn't pittacus. So.meandering, pointless full of plot holes the main characters we used to love annoying and repetitive. The New characters flat and boring. Even nine is not himself.
A woman with a crossbow is the big boss at one point.... a cross bow. They fought mogadorians. And won! They have super powers plus telekinesis plus experience as soldiers and A WOMAN WITH A CROSSBOW ........
Whoever wrote this side series is clearly different from who is the author.from.the main series and he/she ia doing it as a gross cash grab... and doing it badly.
This is not a short story, it is milking the franchise by splitting a single (mediocre) book over as many "novella" installments as the market will bear.
So I read this, book 2, before book 1 because I couldn't find the latter.
Anyway, I read it's excerpt somewhere and jumped to bk 2. This was so disappointing! And I was so excited... I can't believe I didn't enjoy reading Sam and six at all. Storyline fell totally flat. Our Gardes' camaraderie felt weak. Six was being so annoying, Sam seemed so mature. I mean after the war ofc but still something didn't feel right with characters' personalities. Nine's also. Plus, they don't remember or mention their other friends??? John was ur bestie, hello??? Sigh. I think this series revolves around "Generation One" rather than giving us insights into the lives of Gardes; which I actually hoped would be the case. I care not for this new generation of human Gardes...
This plot was real junk filled with holes. The characters have powers! It's like the author (or authors) completely forgot, or doesn't know anything about who Sam and, especially, Six are. They were going through war zones ripping guns out of Mogs hands but now suddenly, everyone is getting shot up... with arrows. The "bear" scene was terrible. "Quick, while our enemies are distracted, let's run away and leave them completely armed."
Plus, they don't really act like the same characters from the original series and speaking of which, I was hoping this novella series would give more of an insight to what's happening with the rest of the Garde.
Overall, I feel like this book is comparable to the Iron Fist series on Netflix. Inconsistent characters, terrible fight scenes, and a lame group of enemies with too many resources. Utter garbage.
Now we get to see him and Six pester each other endlessly! Seriously though; I love the chemistry between them.
The plot of this short was a bit weird; the deadly game and all. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable. I liked seeing the different groups (Six and Sam, Nine and Lexa, Nemo and Rena) work together. I hated watching Six's Legacies disappear. Sure, I love how strong she can be just as a normal bad-ass alien, but the Legacies were like, a part of her. I hope she gets them back soon.
RIP Kirk, you were pretty cool for the short time we knew you.
Dang, these shorts with their cliff hangers...

I'm of mixed feelings about this book and this series. This book is the 2nd of the trilogy of novellas. It continues following Sam and Six. I love these two, and Sam is my favourite, but somehow, he seems to blend in with all the other characters. There didn't seem anything uniquely Sam about him.
The story was interesting enough. A bit better than the first one. I think this and the other 2 books would have been better read together, instead of individually.
SPOILER ALERT! Don't read below if you hate spoilers!🙈
So.....Sam and Six's rescue mission is botched 😅 It was a set up and unfortunately.... the kids get HUNTED 🙀 Literally hunted down by people paying for the privilege of taking down someone with Legacies smh Things just go downhill from there, and just when it seems they will get help, Sam (trying to capture a bad guy) gets taken! 😫 Must. Read. More 🙊
More about the newest human garde and those who are out to exploit them. Ends on a very frustrating cliffhanger leaving most of these garde in peril and leaving me worrying about how they will defy this newest menace.
Short, fun, but nice to revisit the characters of the base series. I do wish that they were a bit longer so they were less of a brief tease of what the other books used to be and I wish that more characters from the original would appear.
So, I probably wont be reading the remainder of the Legacy Chronicles. The Point of view is confusing. It is hard to tell who's thoughts you are reading. There are also just thinks I've heard about the other books.
Gostei mais desse livro do que do primeiro, mas ainda com aquela sensação meio sei lá, a história não é ruim e nem chata, mas da uma preguiça fora do comum de ler. Eu amei ver a seis preocupada com as crianças e mais da relação deles.
