Rock Savage #3

Come Clean

Rate this book
I fell in love with Fiona when we were both fourteen years old but she only had eyes for my friend, and fellow popstar, Ash Savage. My feelings for her haven’t changed over the last ten years. She’s the only woman for me even if I’m just in the background of her life.
Now Fiona’s life has spiraled out of control and she’s in rehab. She needs a friend more than ever so I’ll be there for as long as she needs me.
When we are forced to live together, I think I can keep things on a friends-only level, but that becomes harder and harder for both of us.

About the author

Candy J. Starr

34 books323 followers
Candy J. Starr used to be a band manager until she realised that the band she managed was so lacking in charisma that they actually sucked the charisma out of any room they played. “Screw you,” she said, leaving them to wallow in obscurity – totally forgetting that they owed her big bucks for video equipment hire.

Candy has filmed and interviewed some big names in the rock business, and a lot of small ones. She’s seen the dirty little secrets that go on in the back rooms of band venues. She’s seen the ugly side of rock and the very pretty one.

But, of course, everything she writes is fiction.

She’s got to rescue herself, and come clean with her past.

Come Clean threw me straight into the lowest point in Fiona’s life – in hospital after collapsing in another alcoholic drug haze at a nightclub. Though she has loved Ash Savage forever, he is no longer hers, and now her long time best friend, Matty Wilde is there, telling her this was the closest call ever. Madeline, her manager is both angry and concerned that the alcohol and drug abuse will not only wipe her out physically but her modelling career as well, and the hospital they’ve stashed her in doesn’t want to let her out unless someone signs a tome of paperwork to do it. Madeline just won’t deal with that responsibility for her any more, leaving only Matty who is exactly the right person for her, yet the last person who’s life she wants to adversely affect.

Matt’s apartment is going to be her only option. Matt and that searching look of his, the one that speaks volumes of his love for her. Matt who’s loved her and been her rock for 10 years. She knows it, but, she also knows that he’d be better off with someone other than the f^cked-up-Fiona that she is. Maybe she’ll just stay in her room for a month.

Having a desperate background that was beyond humble, Fiona has this image of herself as unworthy of any decent man, especially someone like Matt who has got a well known band banging on his door begging him to go on tour with them, but what he doesn’t want to do is abandon Fiona. He’s looked out for her for almost 10 years and doesn’t want to stop now when she’s at her lowest most vulnerable point.

This is Fiona’s worst nightmare. There is no way she is going to be the reason that Matt didn’t achieve his potential in the rock music world. She pushes him away. Hard. Breaking both of their hearts in the process.

The rocker genre is my absolute favourite, and Matt is a gorgeous man who is the anti-rock hero. He is everything that is patient, loving, kind and humble. No massive rock star ego from him. How is a quiet man like that going to get the tour and the girl. Absolutely love the book as I always do from Candy Starr. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers’ copy. 4.5 stars.

What happens when the woman you have loved for 10 years but was always involved with your best friend and bandmate is suddenly unattached? Ash Savage was engaged to another woman which has all but added to Fiona’s downward spiral. Fiona had a hard life until she was discovered in a mall and made a young career at being a top model but she never felt worthy of anything or anyone. This only made her drug and alcohol abuse worse to the point of overdosing numerous times. She wasn’t surprised when her best friend, Matt, was the man by her bedside. The feeling of worthlessness was brought to the forefront even more for what she did to herself and it was Matt who was going to help the woman he loved through this. He knew she was worth it and could only hope that in time she would come to love him as he did her. The ups and downs and the struggles that ensued these two had you only hoping they would find each other before it was too late.

I received this book as an ARC for a freely given and honest review.

I received an ARC of this story through Hidden Gems and this is my honest and voluntary review.
I really liked this story concept. Fiona is a model and has fallen into the stereotypical lifestyle of a party girl, drinking too much booze and doing too many drugs. Matty is a musician, formerly in a boy band, and has been in love with Fiona for years. After Fiona overdoses Matty takes responsibility for her and their story commences. This story concept had a lot of potential, but I feel it didn't quite live up to that potential. I was more than halfway through the book before things started to really get interesting, but even then the characters still felt very wooden. I did still enjoy the plot and would definitely read more from this author.

This is my first and most likely my last from this author unless there are others better then this. Rock star? Not really more like a has been child star Matt was in a boy band when he was a teen, now he just helps out with groups filling in for Record recordings. Fiona is too distractive of a mid 20 women that needs the escape of life in the arms of alcohol, pills, coke and whatever else she can find to make her world and nonexistent love life less painful. Rockstars you would like gritty and sex but Matt is too clean cut and Fi is too self destroyed. For the sex part is skims through the scenes within a paragraph or two, to clean.

Matt has loved Fiona for ten years but since she's his best friend's ex, she's always been off limits. Even knowing that, he's never been able to not show up when she needs someone. When Fiona spirals to the lowest she's ever been, Matt is the only one there to pick up the pieces. Fiona thinks she's not good enough for Matt so she's determined to not let the time they spend together grow into anything beyond friendship. But the pull between them is too strong to resist.

I loved the glimpses of Matt and Fiona in the Come Back duet and was really excited to read their story. They are the perfect balance for each other. This series is so captivating and I hope that there's more to come from these awesome characters!

Amazing rockstar/romance. The characters are realistic, relatable, have demons to overcome and are likable. The storyline is well-written, entertaining and so easy to read. The story touches on addictions, self-worth and healing. The words just seem to flow on the pages. I loved this enjoyable installment and am looking forward to reading more from Candy J Starr. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
