Ghanshyamdas Birla, A Builder of Modern India, tells us the story of the founder of the Birla Group, who was not only a visionary industrialist and philanthropist but also had a unique bond with Mahatma Gandhi. Born in 1894 in Pilani, Rajasthan, GD Birla showed his business acumen at the young age of thirteen when he started his independent jute trade. Later on, he created factories like the Hindustan Aluminium Corporation, the Gwalior Rayon, and the United Commercial Bank, etc. Other than this, GD Birla also contributed to the construction of many temples across India and financially supported educational institutions like the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and scientists like C.V. Raman. Ghanshyamdas Birla also established the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani, the ancestral village of the Birlas. For his great contributions to India in the year 1957, GD Birla was awarded the Padma Vibhushan. Although on June 11, 1983, in London, Ghanshyamdas Birla breathed his last.
