Stubert stumbled upon a 2.1 in genetics from Newcastle University, before earning his Ph.D. in cancer genetics. A career in science was not to be though, so he left to join the circus and is now paid to make people laugh in freefall.

In his free time, he raises his children with his wife and digests huge chunks of anime, science fiction, and gluten free food.

In the unlikely scenario that you need to contact him, he uses Facebook Messenger like it’s going out of fashion.

Was recommended to read this by a friend of the authors. Lots of Interesting concepts but it all fits.

When reading it's easy to get as confused as the protagonists, getting drip fed information, but it works, at first I though the meta was their version of vr, then talked about the ships moving through the meta (hyperlight). It then gets explained as the meta is more like subspace (for the trekkies or the deathstalkerites? ) and the ai's think in the same space as the ships move.

The crest and the shunters make an unusual plot device: effectively slave collars, that were voluntarily put on as they didn't get told the whole story- as a technology idea it's terrifying ..
The slide - it's an extension of IoT and social media, see through that person's senses and experience what they experience.
The push - take involuntarily short term remote control of a person, but they are aware and fighting for control of their body.
The shunt - cause permanent personality death of a person as you take control by wiping out their higher brain functions and transplant yourself.
The scary part of the the crest is with an open connection to a shunter the driver can do it without your consent, very open to abuse.

All in a good read, can't wait for book 2

I enjoyed reading this book. It wished it had been longer. Whilst it has reached a natural stopping point I'd have liked for it to continue (the author has said that this is the first in a trilogy). It didn't grip me from the very beginning, although it was an easy read, so it wasn't difficult to dip in and out of. I felt that I was just starting to get in to the book when it finished, which is a shame. I'll probably read the next book in the series, it just depends on how long I have to wait for it.
I think this is one of those books that you need to read the trilogy in one go, but if you don't buy the earlier books the later books may never be published, so a bit of a tricky catch 22. So my advice would be to get the book and wait for all of them to be released. I think it will be worth the wait.

Shunt is a good read from a first time author coming into their own as a writer. The story takes several elements common to sci-fi and mixes them together in an interesting blend. Whilst I found the character development a bit too shallow to build proper empathy in parts, the interaction and story line kept this book enjoyable. I'm interested to see how the series, and the author, progresses and what the second instalment of the crest trilogy will bring.

The book was well written and had an excellent storyline. Many plot twists and turns, a real rollercoaster of a ride. It was indeed unputdownable.

After reading it feels as though life is more boring, colours seem less bright and food more bland. I feel as though i will stay this way until i get my next fix of the crest series.

Well worth the read.
