Navy SEAL Grady Mills has returned to summer camp intent on winning back a certain sexy news producer with whom he shared a secret one night stand--and then a single scorching phone call that ended with a promise to stay in touch. A promise he promptly broke. Priya Mattu knows better than to trust Grady's significant charms. But when he shows up on her cabin doorstep, crashing her solo week at Camp Firefly Falls' Back to Nature retreat, she can't help but remember how good it had been between them. Plus she'd be silly to turn away big, strong, backpack-carrying company on the long daily hikes--and the hot summer nights, too. This lighthearted, sexy rom com is a standalone romance in the Camp Firefly Falls world. Readers previously met Grady and Priya in Skinny Dipping Dare (Wyatt and Tegan's book).
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Zoe York is a busy working mom of two young boys, wife to a very understanding soldier, and creator of modern, sexy, small town contemporary romances.
She lives in London, Ontario and is currently chugging Americanos, wiping sticky fingers, and dreaming of heroes in and out of uniform.
We met Priya in Skinny Dipping Dare by Zoe York [#4]. Tegan’s hookup with a SEAL was a HEA, Priya’s not so much. But she set the boundaries then for just sex. Grady spent the entirety of his long tour thinking about Priya, and not sleeping with anyone else. He called her once - breaking her rule - and it got heated in the best way, but he hasn’t called her since. And he wanted to. He wants more. Knowing his plan, Tegan booked her and Grady into the same cabin. Priya is on enforced medical leave for stress and it just happened to coincide with a camp alumni week at Firefly Falls. But he’s concerned by her medical leave and intent to find out what’s got her upset. Priya’s a sikh, so part is just being a south east Asian woman in a ‘man’s industry; television journalism. But she’s also conflicted by seeing him. She hasn’t been with anyone since him, either. *** Enjoyable but kind of rushed. It’s a novella so *shrugs* But clashing careers, religion, diet… everything… were all solved by love. 3 stars
I like this series and this author, but I was disappointed in this story. The hero and heroine have a one night stand followed by one phone sex call and then no contact for 10 months. He surprises her by suddenly reappearing in her life, supposedly to prove that he's ready to pursue more with her. Then after a week he blows her off and wants to be friends. What? Then he realizes he's messed up and starts to go after her, but she comes back to chew him out and now they're in love. His explanation for the months long silence and blowing cold at the end? He wanted her too much. Two quick fast forwards, the end. It felt the whole story was building, then the drama was contrived to make for a quick wrap of the book. Not my favorite for the series or from this author.
I loved being at adult Camp Firefly Falls. I have to admit this is my first camp book and I will be picking up the others soon.
Grady and Priya's story was wrought with angst of two adults who needed each other but were letting outside circumstances and careers muddy the waters between them. Over thinking and what ifs never resolve anything. It was difficult to see them batter their relationship about. But, oh the lovin'. Mm mm good.
I loved the story and Grady was pretty hot. I'd recommend this read to anyone that believes or wants to believe true love will win out.
First, let me say that Zoe York is one of my favorite romance authors and I buy all her stuff, but this short story was just meh. Mostly that's because there isn't enough time for character development in a 100 page book, so we only get a taste of Grady and Priya realizing they might have something special, when BAM - the story is wrapping up.
These two had a chance, but then it slipped away. Now they have another one and she is leery of putting herself at risk again. He wants this, but still has some things to work out. That makes it all the sweeter when they realize what they have goes beyond physical and always did <3
I love Grady and Priya. They are so cute and stubborn and sweet. I loved watching them try to keep their emotions hidden from one another and maybe to themselves.
