The Boyfriend Swap

If you love Christmas movies, as in you check the Hallmark Channel guide starting in July, then hang on to your stockings, because here comes the merriest of indulgences. It’s “The Proposal” meets “The Holiday” in print.First meet Robyn Lane. She’s always dated struggling creative types, including her current squeeze (Perry, an actor). For this year’s Chrismukkah celebration, her parents would love her to bring someone stable, reliable, steadily employed. You know, with health insurance and a 401(k).Now let’s meet Sidney Bellows. Her parents already plan her professional life (she’s an attorney at her father’s law firm). If she brings her current boyfriend (Will, an attorney) to the family Christmas extravaganza, her parents will have their wedding planned by New Year’s Eve.Leave it to a mutual friend (and copious amounts of wine) to find a playful Swap those boyfriends, fool the parents, and enjoy the holidays. It’s perfect! Robyn can show off a successful attorney boyfriend, and Sidney’s high-society family won’t ring those wedding bells when they meet a flaky actor beau. The fun isn’t in the theory, it’s in the practice. Will turns out to be the boy-next-door Robyn crushed on hard throughout her teenage years. Sidney’s family fawns all over Perry like he’s an Oscar-winner rather than a D-list wannabe.Fool the parents? Enjoy the holidays? Swapping boyfriends never sounded so good or went so bad. Take time to read this one. It’s like Christmas in July.

In this super cute romance with lots of my favorite tropes, two friends decide to switch boyfriends for the holidays (yay, Christmakkah!) because they are convinced their respective parents will hate the boyfriend they are actually dating and they don’t feel like dealing with the drama. As one might guess, things don’t turn out quite the way they plan! I wound up connecting with one couple more than the other (one was a case of serious crushing from high school, so when they have to “Fake date” the chemistry is off the charts). A cute holiday read. 🎄🦌🕎

Do you ever read a book and just know it would be an awesome movie? The characters are larger than life and they’re screaming to be brought to life and you’re silently casting said movie in your head? That’s exactly what happened while I was reading this one, this would be the cutest romantic comedy movie, but it was also a super fun read.

As a reader, you know that the whole idea of swapping mates is a disaster waiting to happen, but that’s part of what made this so entertaining. Robyn was my favorite character, she kind of gets bulldozed by Sidney and just sort of goes along with her crazy scheme and after getting to know Sidney, it’s easy to see how she was manipulated. She is a lawyer after all AND she’s crafty and smart too boot, this is a woman used to getting her way. Sidney and Robyn are pretty different in terms of personality, Robyn is quirky and sweet to Sidney’s bold and brash and I really enjoyed getting to know both of these woman, Schorr created memorable, relatable characters that I think any woman would enjoy reading about.

This was my first book by the author but it certainly won’t be my last, she’s a solid writer and this was a really funny book. The scenes that happened on Christmas Day were some of my favorite moments, and both Will and Perry were charming in their own right. Chick lit fans who haven’t had the pleasure of reading Schorr’s books should definitely pick this one up, it was adorable!

ARC received by the Publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

It has been my first book by author Meredith Schorr and it was pure entertainment from beginning to end. Much recommended and not only for the Holidays.

The two main characters are Robyn and Sidney, women in their late twenties & much put-upon by their parents when it comes to potential boyfriends to bring home for the upcoming Christmas/Chrismukkah.
To escape pressurized holidays they hatch a plan -with determined, sharp Sidney in the lead and gentle, quirky Robyn tagging along-to swap boyfriends for those few days. It is brilliant as far as plans go, but plans of course have a tendency to go awry.

For one, Sidney's BF, Will, turns out to be Robyn's former high-school Crush-cum-Obsession, of which her family knows every detail and it causes no end of mortification to her.

Control-freak, ambitious Sidney does not seem to fare any better with happy-go-lucky, musical-star-wannabee Perry whom her upper-class, old-money parents c closer family take an unexpected shine to.

Things are very much threatening to crash upon the girls' heads and when they do, the events send them on a road to facing their wants & fears and finally resolving outstanding issues with their parents.

The main reason while the story works so well -while others of this genre do not- is because the author did a great job with the charaterisation not only of Robyn and Sidney, but also Will & Perry and the parents. I could guess the end of the story easily and yet never lost interest due to this. Great stuff.

Meredith Schorr has put together a story that would merit being a Hallmark Christmas Special. Sidney is a lawyer only interested in billable hours. Robyn shares her love of music and theater with her students. Both of these women have boyfriends that share the same interests as they enjoy. SO... WHY do they not want to take them home for their family Christmas?? Will is a lawyer and Perry is an actor. Family pressure to find the perfect love interest forces these women to pursue a swap in guys to make Mom and Dad happy and eliminate their constant nagging. Opposites attract and the sparks ignite in this enjoyable holiday story. Quick read that is perfect to curl up with. "A copy of this book was provided by Henery Press via Netgalley with no requirement for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."

If you are looking for an escape this holiday season The Boyfriend Swap by Meredith Schorr is just what you need! So Robyn is a teacher and she is dating an actor. Her family would like her to meet a guy with ambition and some success but they are always disappointed with the creative types she is drawn to. Sydney is a lawyer at her father’s law firm and she is dating a lawyer. Her father is obsessed with the law and tends to talk business incessantly; something she has no patience for. Ann Marie is Robyn’s roommate and she works for Sydney at the law firm. The three girls were together at a wine party and Robyn and Sydney were discussing their trepidations about bringing home their respective boyfriends for the holidays when Ann Marie suggested they swap for the weekend. It would take the pressure off and the guys wouldn’t be left home. Sounded like a perfect solution that would eliminate their concerns…Surely nothing would go wrong…

Reminiscent of Sarah Dunn’s The Arrangement, another fun read where a theoretically great idea leads to the unexpected in reality, The Boyfriend Swap is a little steamy, funny with a few surprises, Meredith Schorr thoroughly entertained me with this well written, romantic comedy that would be delightful for the big screen! Take the stress off this holiday season and pick up a copy (great Secret Santa gift, too!)!

Robyn and Sydney are similar in many ways. They are both successful in their careers. Robyn is a music teacher and Sydney is a lawyer. They both have boyfriends that are very attractive. They also both don't want to take the boyfriends home with them for the holidays. For Robyn, her family is tired of seeing her with artsy men who have no future. For Sydney, she is tired of her father monopolizing the holiday with shop talk. The holidays are supposed to be fun, not judgmental and hostile. So, even though they've just met, Sydney comes up with brilliant idea, swap boyfriends for the holiday. It's just a few days, what's the harm? When Robyn finds out Sydney is dating her childhood crush, will she be able to hold it together? And how will her family handle this? Is this swap really such a good idea?

Thank you to Meredith Schorr, NetGalley, and Henery Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

First of all, I'm not sure this is something I would have ever been able to do. To trade boyfriends at all, but with someone I don't even know. I'm not sure it would work out for me. It's been a while since I've read a book quite like this. It was cute and quirky and I can easily see this being made into a movie.

Robyn's Story
For Robyn, whenever she brings home a guy who is good to her, she has fun with, and is artsy like her parents, they let her know that he is not the right guy for her. She needs a guy with a steady job someone with a 401K and a savings account. Robyn and her boyfriend Perry have been together for almost a year, and they have a lot of fun together. But is he really, "The One"?
Bringing home Will is going to shock the hell out of her family. He was her childhood crush and now he's pretending to be her boyfriend. Will she be able to keep up the farce over the few days they spend with her family or will the secret be revealed before it's even started?

Sydney's Story
Sydney has to bring home a date for Christmas. If not her parents will try to set her up with some hideous guy she would never be interested in, but would be good for business. And she doesn't want to bring home Will. Will is a lawyer just like Sydney, and like Sydney's father. If she brings him home, all her father will do the entire time is try to recruit him to their law firm, and Sydney doesn't want to subject him to that. She also likes keeping her personal life to herself.
When Sydney brings Perry to the family dinner, she is surprised at how well her family likes him. This was not how she had planned this to go. And then when Perry deviates from her script, it makes things even worse. Will they be able to make it through the holiday without killing each other.

This book was a funny, romantic read that had me routing for one character to the end. This is the first book I have read by Meredith Schorr, but it won't be my last. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Through a happy coincidence, Meredith Schorr and I discovered we had a mutual friend (my father, nonetheless)! I got to know Meredith a bit and she offered me the opportunity to read and review her forthcoming novel, The Boyfriend Swap. As an avid reader, I was happy to do so, but I was nervous, this was such a personal connection - what if I didn't like it? What would I tell her? Luckily, this was a problem I did not encounter as The Boyfriend Swap was adorable and enjoyable from start to finish. I absolutely loved all the pop culture references (reading "Naley" from One Tree Hill made my heart smile). I found the characters incredibly relatable and I enjoyed reading their story and wondering what would happen next. I'm eager to read more of Meredith's books and I'm quite glad I found her not only as an author, but as a friend. Now, where can I find me a real life Will Brady? The hunt is on!

When the story started :

I didn't like Sidney and Perry
Will was ok
Robyn was timid and terrified
A risky swap
An old high school crush

After 50%....
Will is looking much better.
Robyn is the only well developed character.
Perry knows how to have fun.
Definitely dont like Sidney. She got worse?

I'm not rating this book because I'm not able to come up with one. I liked 3 characters, really didn't like one.
I didn't really get into the writing and it felt a little slow.
The dialogue and development of events stood out for me.

This may work for someone who enjoys contemporary romance with a twist and some humour.

The first paragraph in the synopsis completely captured my attention--Hallmark? Holiday romances? And of course, you know a swap can only mean disaster, but sometimes it's a good thing and it sure is entertaining to see it all unfold.

Robyn and Sidney couldn't be more different and the same goes for their boyfriends, Perry and Will. I loved seeing their characters come to life and watching their interactions, wondering how they would all manage to pull this charade off and it was hilarious how it happened.

I love digging deep into characters--learning what makes them who they are and seeing how that carries over into their interactions with each other and this one didn't disappoint in that area. Although there is some depth (or fluff) to each one of them, the story stays light and fun and tugs on the romantic heartstrings.

I love a good, clean feel-good romance that focuses on the feelings and chemistry, rather than on the physical aspects and while this story does talk about intimacy in rather vague ways (meaning, not graphic), there is a lot of talk, but it does stay behind closed doors (which I appreciated).

Content (especially for my clean reader friends): there is a good amount of sex talk (nothing graphic and a couple of fade to black scenes); innuendo; kissing. It's sketchy clean--like a PG-13 movie; a handful of moderate language.

I’ve enjoyed every book Meredith Schorr has ever written, so even if she hadn’t told me what The Boyfriend Swap would be about, I’d read it just because she wrote it. It’s just a bonus that the concept was clever and would pave the way for many amusing situations. It made me think of a book called The Great Mom Swap that I read as a kid. However, this one had a more romantic element to it!

From the implementation of the boyfriend swapping plan to watching it unfold at Sidney and Robyn’s family homes to the aftermath of the plan, I was hooked. I don’t celebrate Christmas, but this story allowed me to enjoy it vicariously (there were some Hanukkah parts too). I was able to relate more to Robyn than to Sidney, but I still enjoyed the parts where Sidney was telling her side of the story.

By the time I got to the final page, I was laughing and crying at the same time. The Boyfriend Swap is a book you’ll definitely want to unwrap this holiday season!

I’ve heard buzz about how this would make a great Hallmark holiday movie. I agree, but would be glad to see it on any channel! I cast two of the actresses from The Bold Type as Robyn and Sidney. It made sense with their personalities and appearance. (The guys were harder to cast…)
Robyn: Katie Stevens
Sidney: Meghann Fahy
Perry: Austin Butler
Will: Robbie Amell
Ann-Marie: Britt Robertson
James: RJ Mitte

MY REVIEW OF "THE BOYFRIEND SWAP"  by Meredith Schorr

Can you imagine switching boyfriends for a Holiday weekend just to meet your parents? What do you think would happen? This is the premise for "The Boyfriend Swap" by Meredith Schorr.   The genres for "The Boyfriend Swap" are Fiction and Women's Fiction.

I appreciate the way Meredith Schorr weaves her entertaining tale. I found this to be delightful and at times humourous.

The colorful characters can be described as complicated, complex, quirky, and dysfunctional.  Robin is a music teacher, with many talents, and Sidney is a high -powered attorney working at her father's firm. Both dread the holidays, when they go home and bring a date or boyfriend. Both sets of parents are very different with unusual expectations set for their daughters. At a wine tasting party, and a little too much wine, Sidney and Robin agree to a "boyfriend swap" for the holiday weekend.

This is a predictable story with some twists and turns. I enjoyed this novel and found myself chuckling out loud many times. I would highly recommend this novel for readers who enjoy an easy read, and want a good feel story. I received  ARC from the Great Thoughts and Readers Ninja Group for my honest opinion.

I am a huge fan of Meredith Schorr. I have loved each and every book that she has written. When I learn that she has a new book out my expectations are high, after all, she is one of my all time favorite authors. The Boyfriend Swap didn't only live up to my expectations it exceeded it. The novel was impossible to put down. The only reason it took me two sittings to finish it was because I had to leave the house. But as soon as I returned I immediately had to resume reading because I was so in love with the story and all the characters. The Boyfriend Swap is the perfect light hearted romantic comedy that you'll read with a smile on your face and the characters will stick with you for a long time after the last page is read.

This was adorable. Meredith Schorr has given us a book with a perfect blend of romance, entertainment and fun.

Our two main female characters cannot be further apart in personality. As are our two male characters. Sidney is a workaholic who is so competitive she can’t stop and it seeps into her personal life. She needs control and is quite driven. She always gets what she wants because she relentlessly goes after it until she gets it. Robyn is sweet and kind. She has compassion and empathy for everyone. Robyn is a music teacher who loves to see the joy music brings to children and Sidney is a lawyer. They both have parents who want them with someone but Robyn’s never like the guys she brings home and Sidney wants her parents out of her personal life because she feels they will ruin it.

As for the guys. Will is a lawyer but isn’t about the bottom line dollar. He works for a company that believes in a work/life balance. He is serious but does know how to let go and relax. Perry is a actor who has an ego the size of Montana but is charming and has a magnetism that draws people in.

The two you like right away are Will and Robyn. They are kind and caring. Thoughtful as well.

So how does all this go down? Sidney needs a fill in for Will that will get her parents to ignore him and Robyn needs someone her parents will like so Sidney’s assistant who is Robyn’s roommate suggests they switch boyfriends. To Sidney this is perfect but Robyn does have reservations as does Will when it is pitched to the guys. For Will I think it has him feel that Sidney doesn’t feel the way he does about their relationship but only time can tell.

So the swap is afoot and what happens? We get foot loose and fancy free at Robyn’s parents. They are a hoot. And Will and Robyn learn more about one another. Here the family reveals how much Robyn likes Will. Will is great as well. He relaxes and enjoys his time but it also has him reflect on his relationship with Sidney and he sees what he is missing I think. At the same time Robyn begins to do the same about her relationship and her feelings. These two are to honorable to act on feelings though and they do get confused in the end and you root they will end up together.

Meanwhile at Sidney’s parents, Sidney is driven up a wall by not being able to control Perry who takes over. Her parents fall for him as do the whole family and we have them do something that can hurt their significant others.

In the end the swap has everyone search their feelings and see where they want to be. Sidney learns what she is turning into and goes to search for herself and realizes change is in order. Will fights for what he wants and Robyn learns to trust and falls in love. Perry is Perry.

this is a fun, sweet and entertaining book. Very fast paced, easy to read and just one where you get to root for a HEA but also for everything to work out for everyone. You love all the characters even when they are being doofy and enjoy the exploration all of them are on. It’s a journey for each person that leads to different places for all four and love for two.

A clever premise, interesting, multi-layered characters, romantic sparks of all kinds, and countless LOL moments make The Boyfriend Swap a must-read!

Workaholic lawyer Sidney Bellows and music teacher Robyn Lane are dreading the holidays for different reasons. Sidney thinks if she brings the successful boyfriend she's been keeping secret home to meet her conservative, goal-oriented parents, they will try to hurry the two of them down the aisle while Robyn is sure her folks will continue to disapprove of her struggling actor beau. The idea of switching boyfriends is cooked up one night when both ladies have over-imbibed. In the sobering light of day, Robyn thinks it's a crazy scheme that's doomed for disaster, but Sidney insists it's the answer to all their problems. Robyn is even less keen on the swap when she learns Sidney's boyfriend is also the cutie she lusted after in high school. There's no stopping this runaway train, though, and soon the two faux couples are off to make merry with Sidney's and Robyn's families. What follows is a surprise to all the swap's participants as they start to question their relationships and face some hard truths that may just change the course of their lives.

The journeys of Robyn/Will and Jordan/Perry are equally entertaining and riveting. Can you imagine being reunited with your teenage crush as an adult? Robyn runs through a whole gamut of emotions while spending time with and growing closer to Will. Meanwhile, Sidney wants to wring Perry's neck because he keeps going off-script, teasing and flirting with her, and showboating in front of her family who are completely charmed by him, which was NOT the plan. Most of the comedy in the book comes from Perry throwing curveballs at control freak Sidney, and I was endlessly amused by their combative dynamic, which provided a great contrast to the more poignant Will/Robyn scenes.

One of the things I really enjoyed about this book was that the story didn't end when the boyfriend swap was over, it carries on for a few months afterwards so that we can see what the fallout from the scheme is. And it does lead to big changes in the heroines' lives, both personally and professionally. I won't tell you how things work out for any of the couples, but suffice it to say, that there are some twists and turns in the last act that will keep you turning pages and everyone ends up exactly where they should be.

Although part of this story plays out against a holiday background, I think it's one that could be read and appreciated at any time of the year. I got such a kick out of all the characters and Ms. Schorr's snappy writing. If you're looking for a fun, fast-paced read that will provide you with both laughs and feels, this is the book for you!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

A quick, fun and relaxing read. As some other reviewers mentioned, the premise was preposterous, but ultimately, it worked really well. I adored Robyn (and her parents!), and Will (of course). As for Sidney and Perry, I spent the better part of the book disliking both of them quite wholeheartedly, but it turned out the author did have a good plan for them (they did some growing up in the end) and I felt really satisfied with how everything was wrapped up. What really made the book for me was . What I could have done without, though, was . All in all, a good book, and it goes to my 'comfort read' shelf. I will be checking out other books by this author.

This was an absolutely adorable and fun read. What do you get when two women decide to swap boyfriends for the holidays just to make their parents angry? A disaster waiting to happen. It's obvious how the story is going to end here but it's the journey to that end that makes this a fun one. There's a lot of tropes that weave throughout this story and I liked it. Firstly, fake dating is always the BEST. Then you've got hate at first sight and butting heads with Perry and Sidney. Will and Robyn had the unrequited crush down pat. I will readily admit that I loved Will and Robyn's plot line a lot more because I could feel that angst coming through the pages. Bed sharing? Goo goo eyes? A thoughtful and unexpected Christmas present as well as a nickname? Count me in. The only downside to this book was that the ending was too abrupt. It ends right with the HEA but doesn't go beyond it.
A cute story like this deserves an epilogue.

This book is SO stinking fun! When you start this…don’t plan on doing anything else until you get to the last delicious page.

Robyn and Sidney meet at a women’s only “wine party” and after many beverages, they commiserate about their dread of the upcoming holidays. They both have fantastic boyfriends. It’s their families that are the problem.

Robyn, “the cute” music teacher loves to date artsy men and Perry the hottie with a strong sexual appetite is just her style. Unfortunately, all Robyn’s parents see is a struggling actor/musician who isn’t going anywhere and they can’t wait for him to get lost.

Sidney, the classy ultra-sophisticated attorney is dating Will, who is intelligent, good looking and a fellow attorney. He’s the total package wrapped up in a bow for her parents. Sidney knows if she takes him home for the holidays, her attorney father will talk shop the whole time and frankly she deals with her dad enough at the office. And then, there’s a chance that if her family likes him … Sidney might lose interest. This girl loves a challenge.

Their mutual and mildly intoxicated friend, Anne Marie flippantly suggests that the women switch boyfriends for the week. The wild and zany idea just might work, right? The women will be able to relax and enjoy Christmas; they won’t care what their families think about their “borrowed” significant other.

The rest of the novel is absolutely jam-packed with laugh out loud comedy, a couple of life’s most embarrassing moments revealed, extreme kindness as well as insensitivity, mild flirtation, infatuation and so much more. (I won't spoil the ending).

I SO enjoyed this book and will be gifting it to several friends.

I received an advance review copy of this book from Great Thoughts Ninjas. All opinions are my own.

Looking for a good read this upcoming Christmas season? Christmas time is just around the corner and for two New Yorkers Robyn and Sidney, instead of looking forward to taking home their boyfriends for Christmas they are dreading it. Robyn has always dated artists and creative types and is currently dating Perry, a struggling actor, you would think coming from a creative family that they would love Perry, but the truth is her family can't stand him. Sidney, on the other hand, is a lawyer working at her Dad's company and is dating Will - a lawyer at another firm. She finds that all her boyfriends are put off or hijacked by her Dad who lives for the working life. Over a girls night, an idea is formed to swap boyfriends this Christmas season. This would have been a great idea if they were all complete strangers but turns out Will - Sidney's boyfriend, is none other than Will - the guy who right through High School, Robyn had a major crush on. Both parties reluctantly agree after a bit more convincing and so begins The Boyfriend Swap for the Christmas season. What will happen though when both families love who their daughters have brought home, and lines start to blur in both the fake relationships? The Boyfriend Swap was a fun chick lit novel, and though predictable as you could see where it was going to end, it was fun to read the two different family dynamics.

What a fantastic book to binge read. I started this on a slow day at work (shh!), thinking I would read a few lines and continue on for the next couple days, as is my normal routine. Well, I must say, this book just sucked me right in like my favorite romcom. The Boyfriend Swap is joyfully written to play like a movie in your head. You can picture the characters, laugh at the good lines, cringe at the awkward scenes, and simply get caught up in the mood of the story. If you love movies like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Love Actually or books like Emily Giffin’s Something Borrowed, you will devour Schorr’s book like I did. You have the childhood crush, the impossible set up of a good plan gone awry, the know it all knockout who’s use to getting it all…every element you could possibly need for a feel good, guilt free, bottle of wine to yourself, binge read. So tell the girls you’re staying in, tell your love you’ve got other plans, and find the comfiest pair pajama pants you own, with a bottle of your favorite vino. The Boyfriend Swap screams Friday Night In and I can guarantee that once you start, you won’t be going anywhere.

Thank you to The Great Thoughts Ninja Review Team, Netgalley, and Henery Press for an advanced copy of this book. All thought are mine alone.

I was lucky enough to win this beauty in a giveaway, this is ARC, thank you Meredith, such a great read, I am new to Meredith Schorr, & I am not looking for another book from her collection to check out next!! I picked it up and I was pulled into her world. I love Christmas, anything Christmas related, fond memories of being a kid and enjoying all seconds ... family, friends, being silly, waiting for Santa ... reindeer, funny movies, music, the Chipmunks Christmas carol ... I could go on & on ...but this is about this book. I could definitely see this moving into a movie, it plays out so well .. we all can picture what we think our minds. Easy to follow, well written, love the cover, am I the only one that really enjoys when an author picks out a great font ... if you know me I am a lot of the time reading on my kindle so when you switch back to reading hand held books you need a font that is easy read, I do wear glasses to read only ...so a lot of the time I can't read hand held books at night, 'cause the lighting is not the greatest .... can only do that during the day when the light is so bright ...but for me this font is just perfect!! well done! can't wait to see read another book from Meredith, soon enough!! Got Suggestions let me know! ( ;

I loved this book! It was so cute and made me laugh out loud in some spots.

Anne Marie is roommates with Robyn and her boss is Sidney. She invites Sidney to her wine party and during the course of their discussions, it comes up that neither Robyn nor Sidney want to take their boyfriends home for Christmas. Robyn is sure her family will give her a hard time because she's dating an artist and not a professional man. Sidney is sure her lawyer father will not let her lawyer boyfriend alone. Enough wine and Sidney comes up with the idea for them to swap boyfriends for Christmas.

Sidney can't stand Robyn's boyfriend, Perry. She's so competitive and he pushes all of her buttons. Robyn, on the other hand, finds out that Sidney's boyfriend, Will, was the boy she crushed on all through high school.

Such a cute book. You won't want to put it down!

I received an advanced review copy of this book from The Great Thoughts Ninja Review Team. All opinions are my own. Robyn and Sidney decide to trade boyfriends when they go home for the holidays. What happens after that is hysterical!!! I really enjoyed this book and I loved the characters. Does life for Robyn and Sidney go back to the way it was before the holidays or do things change? You have to read this funny, laugh out loud book to find out!!!

What a delicious book! I loved it so much, I couldn't stop reading and stayed up half the night because I had to know what was going to happen next.

The story is so much fun and the characters immediately grew on me. I adored Will and Robyn!

This is my favourite Meredith Schorr novel to date and I highly recommend it.

Originally reviewed at Books Etc.

I love Meredith Schorr's books and, I'll be up front and honest, I love her, too. Over the past few years, I've read all of her novels, have met her in person twice, and have emailed and messaged her countless times. I might be a bit biased but if you know me you'll also know that I'll be honest with my review even though I consider Meredith a friend. So when I say I adored The Boyfriend Swap it's because it really is another fantastic read from Schorr.

The Boyfriend Swap is full of Schorr's trademark (yep, I'm calling it a trademark) humour and heart. She manages to create characters that I always want to be best friends with and are so totally realistic. None of her heroines are perfect and some are far from it. Sidney, for example, is a real piece of work. She's tough, always needs to be in control, and is actually pretty difficult to like. But there's a certain something in her that has the reader hoping she'll redeem herself by the end of the novel (you'll just have to read it to find out if she does). Robyn, on the other hand, is the "good girl," a point that's driven home when it's revealed that it was Will who came up with her high school nickname of Snow White. I will say that I found Robyn to be a touch too much like Kim, Schorr's heroine in her Blogger Girl series. I love the series and Kim so I loved Robyn but they are definitely very similar characters. Maybe it's just because they're both sweet, smart, sassy women. Nothing wrong with that, right?

The main plot of the story - swapping boyfriends for the holidays - had the potential to end up being really cheesy but Schorr makes it work. Maybe because not everyone is super into the idea. Sidney has to work to convince Robyn and especially Will that it's a good idea. It proves that Sidney is a damn good lawyer and can argue her way to a win in just about anything. But, as you can imagine, it also shows the cracks in the established relationships. Schorr does an awesome job of writing these relationships so they feel realistic even in a bizarre situation.

There was a bit of an unbalance in the stories for me but that wasn't exactly a bad thing. I didn't really connect with Sidney (or Perry) but I wonder if that was to be expected. There's one line that I absolutely love from Perry when they're discussing the swap. He says to Sidney, referring to the two of them, "We're definitely the villains in this story." To me that line says that Schorr maybe knows that Sidney and Perry aren't the main reason you're still reading and that, maybe, that's ok.

I had totally forgotten that Will was Robyn's high school crush so I was pleasantly surprised by that reveal. It was sort of like a second chance romance, which is one of my favourite tropes. And Will himself? Oh my goodness, swoon. I adored him. I felt a bit like Robyn's mom did, constantly wanting to tell Robyn that I just loved him. He was smart and had interests that were all over the board. And he really seemed to understand Robyn and what made her tick.

And for fans of Christmas stories (like me!) the main portion of the story takes place over the holidays in December. There's just enough cheer to make it a holiday story but not too much that you can't read this in, say, July.

I could probably keep gushing about The Boyfriend Swap but I should probably leave a little mystery for when you read it yourself (and you will, right? You should.). I loved Meredith Schorr's latest novel and am already waiting for her next one!

Summary provided by publisher:
Is Christmas really the most wonderful time of the year? New Yorkers Robyn Lane and Sidney Bellows aren’t so sure.

Robyn has always dated struggling creative types. For once, her parents would love her to bring someone with health insurance and a 401(k) to their Chrismukkah celebration. Her actor boyfriend doesn’t qualify. While across town, Sidney’s professional life already belongs to her parents. She’s an attorney at her father’s law firm and she works tirelessly to keep her love life private. If she brings her lawyer boyfriend to their annual Christmas extravaganza, her parents will have the wedding planned by New Year’s Eve.

A mutual friend playfully suggests they trade boyfriends for the holidays. The women share a laugh, but after copious amounts of wine, decide The Boyfriend Swap could be the perfect solution. This way, Robyn can show off her stable attorney boyfriend and Sidney’s high-society family will take no interest in her flakey actor beau.

It’s a brilliant plan—in theory. In practice—not so much. When Will turns out to be the boy-next-door Robyn crushed on hard throughout her teenage years, and Sidney’s family fawns all over Perry like he’s an Oscar-winner rather than a D-list wannabe, one thing is certain: The Boyfriend Swap might just change their lives forever.
------------------------------
When I had first stumbled onto this read, I was intrigued by the idea of two women swapping boyfriends, and honestly, how it was that they could even get to such a point. You'd assume that at least one person in this quartet would object—because they're normal—but no, not in The Boyfriend Swap. In fact, the one who initially objects is surprisingly easy to convince, and soon enough, the two women are off on their holiday trips home, fake boyfriend in tow. Which seems ridiculously easy, right? But I'm happy to say that I don't care, because I really ended up liking this book, and happily accepted anything Meredith Schorr threw at me.

Like, for example, the fact that Robin's boyfriend would happen to be Lucy's childhood crush?? I live for coincidences like these that throw people together! It makes it all the better when Lucy brings Will back to her childhood home, and she's having to pretend she's in a relationship with him, all while having to pretend that she doesn't have actual feelings for him... Yes, I just couldn't help but love the easy way Lucy and Will got along with each other, and the plain fact that it was easy .

Robin and Perry (Lucy's boyfriend) were interesting in a different way. Perry was supposed to be someone her parents would easily forget so that when Robin "broke up with him", it wouldn't matter. But Perry doesn't do forgettable, so instead, the whole family ends up falling for him when they meet him, and that leads to Robin trying to find ways to sabotage this growing relationship Perry seems to be having with her family, though things don't go quite how she expects them to.

I did find the characters to be endearing, and enjoyed their interactions with each other. I especially liked Perry's character. He was surprisingly kind and thoughtful when you least expected it, and though I won't go too deep into his role due to spoilers, I will say that he was definitely a big part in helping Robin figure some important things out.

In conclusion, I really did like this book (though I had to knock off a star because of how long it took me to finish this book because I'd had a hard time wanting to get back to it when I'd put it aside for the day) and the whole rom/com aspect of it. I really feel like this book would be the perfect screenplay for a chick flick, and being that I'm a sucker for chick lit and chick flicks, I'd totally watch it.

I would definitely recommend this to you if you'd enjoyed the movie The Holiday, since it invokes similar feels.

Thank you to Henery Press, via Netgalley, for giving me this copy in exchange for an honest review.

The entire premise of The Boyfriend Swap book is, of course, crazily far-fetched. I liked this book, but I don't really feel the need to review it... It was a fun read, but pretty shallow/fluffy. And it's hard to write a review without any spoilers!!

So I'll settle with just saying, I like Robyn, she is like a Disney Princess and her nickname of Snow White is very fitting. She's described as looking like Selena Gomez with blue eyes and I could totally picture that. I also love her zany family and their Christmukkuh celebration. I also really liked Will, and wish the book had some more from his and Perry's perspectives. I didn't care as much for Sidney.

This book was a little strange because it's told in the first person past tense, but switches between Robyn's point of view and Sidney's. As I said, I wish it had more of the inner workings of Perry and Will's minds, but because of the first person P.O.V. narration, that just wasn't possible. I stayed up until almost midnight finishing this book (my bedtime is normally 10 p.m. at the latest!) so clearly I liked it! :)

I had purchased this e-book a while ago and decided to begin reading on a Sunday afternoon while the baby was napping.

Around attending a family party Sunday evening, working full time with an hour commute each way, and taking care of a ten month old, I finished this book Monday night. There was no way I was going to bed without finding out what happened. I love Meredith Schorr's writing and The Boyfriend Swap did not disappoint. She has a way of making me feel like I am part of the story, and I am left smiling and thinking about the characters as if they are my good friends. I also love how she set this novel up perfectly for a prequel (Kim vs the Mean Girl was so much fun to read! hint hint)

I have known Meredith Schorr for a really long time, but I have never read one of her books. When this one came up on Netgalley I requested it immediately. The title is fabulous and the blurb was very intriguing.

The story follows Robyn Lane and Sidney Bellows. It’s Christmas soon and it’s time to take the boyfriend to see the parents. However, Robyn always dated creative types and her parents never approved. Sidney on the other hand is with a lawyer and her parents really want that for her. She is not ready to get married tough.

A mutual friend suggests switching boyfriends for the holidays. First they laugh, but eventually they agree.

Robyn’s actor boyfriend Perry joins Sidney on her ride home and Sidney’s lawyer boyfriend Will joins Robyn. This is where it gets complicated, because Robyn and Will actually know each other from their childhood. Robyn had a huge crush on him back then, so everything comes back and her parents are very surprised.

Sidney and Perry don’t get along very well and the drama starts. Their lives are about to change.

I really enjoyed following Robyn and Will around. They had real chemistry from the start and their scenes were adorable. They way he was with her and just everything. LOVE.

I had difficulties warming up to Sidney and I couldn’t until the end. The same with Perry.

This is a great, funny, sweet and fresh rom-com, with Christmas elements and an engaging plot. The characters are very well lined out and it’s fab to follow them around. A light page-turner and I definitely can’t wait to read more books by this wonderful author.
