After returning home Nate and Ben discover events in their State of Texas are far worse than they could ever imagine. Decisions have to be made. Options are few as Nate and his family quickly become surrounded by new dangers. The former US Army Ranger will need all of his skills to endure, survive and escape.
There are some grammar and word usage issues as well as some character dialogue that seems stiff and odd. A good editor could help but it was not too distracting either. I like Nate and like that he is a capable ex-military/cop but often chooses not just to shoot. Karma seems to work well for him. It does seem unrealistic that he would constantly run into so many old friends he encountered on the way to Texas. I also like that the main reason they have to flee their homes is not because of overwhelming bad guys but a mass of displaced refugees that have no where else to go and there are too many to handle. It is sad but a nice change from so many baddies.
Good characters with great plot twists. I liked the tying together of characters from book one into book two. This is a different collapse as the financial sectors implode then enemies take advantage. The author does not travel Wyoming much because he missed Casper and Douglas then was magically transported to Sheridan area. Wyoming is a large state with many miles of road. Can not wait for the next book!
This was a really good read and I enjoyed it very much. The character interaction was excellent and the generosity of the American spirit is well done. I don't know if this is the last book for the series, but if another one comes out, I'll be sure to read it.
Though the story is good, I found the overly precise speech of the characters to be frustratingly distracting. The constant use of almost formal speaking and sometimes awkwardly inserted emotional bits were detrimental to the book, hence the three star rating.
