“Morgan Rice's imagination is limitless. In another series that promises to be as entertaining as the previous ones, A THRONE OF SISTERS presents us with the tale of two sisters (Sophia and Kate), orphans, fighting to survive in a cruel and demanding world of an orphanage. An instant success. I can hardly wait to put my hands on the second and third books!” --Books and Movie Reviews (Roberto Mattos) From #1 Bestseller Morgan Rice comes an unforgettable new fantasy series. In A COURT FOR THIEVES (A Throne for Sisters—Book Two), Sophia, 17, finds her world upside down as she is cast from the romantic world of aristocracy and back to the horrors of the orphanage. This time the nuns seem intent on killing her. Yet that doesn’t pain her as much as her broken heart. Will Sebastian realize his mistake and come back for her? Her younger sister Kate, 15, embarks on her training with the witch, coming of age under her auspices, mastering the sword, gaining more power than she ever imagined possible—and determined to embark on a quest to save her sister. She finds herself immersed in a world of violence and combat, of a magic she craves—and yet one that may consume her. A secret is revealed about Sophia and Kate’s lost parents, and all may not be what it seems for the sisters. Fate, indeed, may be turned on its head.
This book was a lot better than the previous book. First, character development happens! Kate learns patience and how to calm herself. On the other end of the spectrum, Sophia figures out how to be less of a victim (i.e. assert herself).
In short,
Plotwise - there are some elements that need to be streamlined. I did feel that some events moved too fast - though this might be linked to another major flaw of this book: it's brevity. I've read two books so far, and I still feel like I've read two-thirds of a book.
I used to think Morgan Rice was a pseudonym for M R. Why does Morgan Rice copycat every M.R. Mathias release? Mathias just released Fantastica a two book series, that is promised to be more, now this author sets up pre orders for a comparable 2 book series, and is most likely copying Mathias's new releases this very moment. She also copied Game of Thrones. The original is always best. Look at the publication dates and see for yourself. However entertaining Rice's books are, they are just unoriginal knockoffs. Read them both and see for yourself.
The first 2/3 was awesome--I couldn't put it down. The last 1/3 was painfully slow. Not sure I want to try book 3 although I'd love to see what happens to Sophia....
The writing in the dialogue especially is awkward and feels rushed, eg, in one chapter, we see Kate suck at training and we assume it'll take her a while to get to where she needs to be, but the very next Kate pov chapter, she has suddenly managed to get the sword???😒 and if the second her was just herself with all the strengths and none of the weaknesses, why did she have a moment of weakness that allowed Kate to beat her???? And judging by the time span, since Sophia hadn't been put on the ship yet, it must have only been a day. Two maybe even three max. Now how did Kate do a full 180 and is suddenly able to kill everyone??? UNSCATHED????? It feels too convenient how the House of the Unclaimed was suddenly over. Had none of the girls thought of burning it before? Kate and her 5 minutes of training killed and stopped everyone?? The girlies couldn't have just joined forces to kill them before??? Also, I don't care Kate doesn't like men she's gay!!!!
I will not be finishing the series <3

***A SMALL SPOILER*** I'm glad I decided to read the second book, as it's much better than the first. More believable storylines, ( though Sophia showing signs of pregnancy just a handful of days later is rather stupid ) and the characters have more depth. I may continue with the series, because yet again, the book ends with major cliffhangers.

I enjoyed the story, I love the characters. The book progresses at a fast pace and seemed to be over way to soon. Read the books in order though, that's a must! Can't wait for book 3!
I am enjoying this series so much. So much heart and intrigue. Great character development and terrific story line. Highly recommend this book. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
I have not yet read the first book in this series, so I was missing some background. Sophia is back in the terrible orphanage, where the nuns seem bent on killing her by beating her to death. She keeps mind-calling to her sister Kate to help. The reason she is in the orphanage is that her status has been discovered just before she was to marry Prince Sebastian, whom she loves. In the meantime, Kate is in the forest training as a fighter with a witch, gaining powers, amazing speed, proficiency with a sword, and other skills. When she leaves to save her sister, she finds herself in a world of violence. When they discover a secret about their lost parents, everything begins to change again. Sophia is determined to get Sebastian back, while Kate is off with the army. Sophia discovers others who can mind-talk the way she and her sister do. This book was a little confusing because I didn't have the backstory, but I enjoyed it all the same, and will look for others in the series - hopefully in order this time!

A Court for Thieves is the second book in the series A Throne for Sisters. It continues the story of Sophia and Kate. As Kate begins her apprenticeship with the Lady of the Fountain, she learns her heart's desire - how to fight. Sophia, on the other hand, having been hunted down and brought back to the House of the Unclaimed, is sold to a slaver, and on her way to another city. When Kate is finally able to respond to her sister's cry for help, she frees Sophia and the other women who have also been sold. The rest of the story follows each sister individually while they each travel the paths they have chosen.
I enjoyed this book as much as the first book in the series. The different situations each finds herself in are completely believable. Again, there is a cliffhanger ending, and I am anxious to read the third book.
I liked this so much more than the first book. I had a hard time forgiving the author for all of the typos, grammar, etc, but it gets worse in the third book. I feel like editing is important and this just throws me off.
The story starts to pick up and smooth out later in this book, especially Kate's story. I feel like the plot will turn towards Sophia later on, but these early books are Kate's story. She is indentured to a witch, who is honestly the most interesting character so far. We are also gently introduced to the Master of Crows, who has potential to be an interesting villian.
I am still not loving the dialogue, and the plot still just doesn't fit together quite right, but the story itself is becoming more interesting at this point. I would like to see more character development even if it makes the books longer.
Again, this took about 3-4 hours to read and isn't terrible for young adults, but I don't think many adults will be able to get into it.
A Court for Thieves is better than the first book A Crown for Sisters. There is more character development and you more point la of view. Some characters are still fairly one dimensional, but it is an improvement from have just Sophia’s and Kate’s point of view. However, I think the biggest issue I have with the writing it that there is no clear progression of time. It will seem like most of the events have taken place in a day or two, then there you get information it have been weeks. For example, while it seems like three to five days have past for the events of book one and book two, there is some evidences out get that implies the two books have taken place over 6 weeks. Still, I am interested enough and these are easy break from longer more involved novels I have been listening too.
The second installment in the ATFS series and can I just say... I love this series so far! There is just so much happening but its easy to keep up. The different settings, the characters- everything is just perfect!
This is the 2nd Morgan Rice series that I have LOVED book 1 and then struggled to get past the rest of the series. I am not sure if it is the disconnect between having the story split into so many parts and I wonder if the book was presented to me as a whole if I would be ok getting it finished but I find the story just naturally lagged in this second instalment and where I really wanted to know what happened after book 1 at about 50% I just found myself not caring anymore. The same thing happened in the series Of Crowns and Glory. I devoured book 1 but the interest didn't carry me into book 2 and beyond.
Despite the fact that I'm still pretty on-the-fence about this series, I binged this book in one night. The continuation is intensely frustrating, as the number of point-of-view characters expands, letting the reader see just how intensely Sophia and Sebastian love each other even as, in true harlequin romance fashion, each thinks they are hated by the other. They spend almost the entire book trying to find each other, to actually talk, but just missing each other in the worst ways, and now it's looking like it might be YEARS before they are actually in the same place at the same time, and in the meantime, T-R-A-U-M-A!
I bought book two and three as one volume but wanted to review book two separately.
The life of the two sisters is never easy and in this part of the story there are many lessons to learn, not least, the cruelties within their world.
I will not give away the story but will say that this book is not as rushed as book one, that the character development and world building is excellent and the plot thickens. There is also further involvement with Prince Sebastian.
The second book of the series clears up that book 1 did not, in fact take place over 2 days! Good to know!
Morgan Rice does a wonderful job of dragging her readers into her worlds. Making them beg for more! Such a cruel master, to leave such a cliff at the end for us to hurtle into book 3. Lucky me it's already out!
Some expected things happen. I love the cat! Makes me like Sophia more then Kate.....I'm curious what happens to Rupert but happy that Sebastian comes to his senses. Staring death in the face can straighten out ones priorities!
Once again, a great offering from Morgan Rice who finally seems to have her editing & production team firing on all cylinders. It took me a bit longer to get through since every time I settled in to read it, my phone would ring - and I have to respond to these calls - started to think it was jinxed. I did enjoy the multiple plot lines and was extremely impressed with the way certain of the characters extricated themselves from the problems they encounter - or are put in their way!
So, hopefully, Book #3 will be as enjoyable and I can finish it in a more timely fashion!
