THE AMAZING CULTURAL ACCURACY HELLO???

I really adore the way many authors distinguish Russian characters. It's hilarious because either they have terrible English with beautifully constructed phrases like: "Sasha likes Anya. Sasha wants to mate. You understand, yes?"

Or it's the complete opposite and they are made to be like in this novella, with English so formal, it's straight outta 12th century BC🤣🤣🤣.

I've finally read my first Alexa Riley book! I know I'm pretty late to the game...but it was good. I give it a solid 3.5 stars. I'm still trying to decide exactly how I feel about it, so my rating might change in the future.

I always struggle with how to rate quick, smutty reads like this one. I can't rate it against other full-length books, because that isn't the type of story that this is. Instead, my rating is based upon other comparable, short, smutty reads -- if that makes any sense.

The story is very short and progresses quickly. There wasn't a lot of character development and things just seemed to kind of happen without much build-up. That being said, I was surprised with the amount of development that was there, given the small number of pages.

Anya is a young girl, on the brink of her eighteenth birthday, at the onset of the story. She has been sheltered for most of her life, but is headed off to college. Her long-time bodyguard, Sasha, is supposed to deliver her to school, but he has other plans.

Sasha has worked for Anya's father for several years. In exchange for bringing his family to America, he agreed to serve as Anya's bodyguard for an agreed upon number of years. During that time, one of his primary responsibilities was making sure that she remained pure and untouched. That task proved to be almost unbearable for Sasha, who has lusted after her for years. Taking her to college is his last assigned duty before his time is up.

The huge age difference between Anya and Sasha definitely adds to the taboo nature of this story. Add to that the fact that Sasha had been fantasizing about Anya for years, since the time she was middle-school aged, and it is enough to make you pretty damn uncomfortable. Of course, that is the appeal.

Needless to say, Anya and Sasha eventually cross the line and their relationship morphs into something entirely new...and dirty. I'm pretty drawn to taboo and forbidden stories, but this was pretty over-the-top. I enjoyed it, but it was the kind of smutty entertainment that I just can't take too seriously. Some of it was incredibly hot. Other parts were kind of disturbing.

All in all, I thought that it was a pretty good, smutty read. I can definitely see what the appeal is, now that I've read my first Alexa Riley book. Usually, I prefer a lot more build-up and development in my stories, but this is a great choice if you're looking for a quick, dirty and hot type of read. This is definitely a "guilty pleasure" type of story.

i have recently been told that my reviews are "way too serious" and while I’m still trying to find a single serious review in the numerous ones that i have written, i have decided to take this criticism to heart and be more laid back

Well, I finished it, so there is that...Not really sure what else to say. The heroine acted like she was still a 13 year old. The hero was hot in his Russianness, and I wasn't really bothered by the whole taboo thing, but lusting over, and jerking off to thoughts of f@cking a 13-year-old was a tad creepy even for me. I also thought they acted like idiots around other people. Screwing in front of the priest. Kicking her college advisor out of his office to screw. To be perfectly clear, I have no problem with May-December relationships. In fact, they’re my kryptonite.

What I do have a problem with, however, is pedophilia. And that problem lies in the details. It's all about context. For example, there’s nothing wrong with a 35-year-old man getting together with an 18-year-old girl. So long as they’re both consenting adults—no harm, no foul. But when the narrative states it plain that this 35-year-old hero has been lusting after the heroine since she was just 13-years-old—yeah, I take issue with that.

Why? Because that makes him a pedophile.

What is a pedophile? An adult who is sexually attracted to children.

Bu—bu—but he didn't act on his impulses. As if that absolves him. As if that makes it okay for a grown-ass man to be sexually aroused by a child—something he was proud of, no less. As if I'm supposed to find it romantic that this hero had a long-standing, singular obsession with the heroine, an obsession that started when she was far, far too young.

Sasha, a 30-year-old man at the time, was sexually attracted to a 13-year-old Anya. Let that sink in.

I'm glad I finally finished this one. I hate to say this but I came to a point I'm not sure if I can finish the book. I love AR books and I thought I'd love this one too but for the first time, I didn't love their story. I don't know if it's because of the collaboration but there were scenes I didn't enjoy. Also, I love AR's epilogues but not in this one.

The story is about Sasha and Anya.

He's her full-time bodyguard. He's the one who takes care of her for the past five years since her mom passed away and her dad passed his responsibilities as a father to Sasha.

He made a promise to her dad to keep her innocent and now, time is up. He's ready to claim her.

I know she's still young but she acted like a child at times which annoyed me. I also understand they wanted each other so bad but having sex in front of the priest while they're getting married was a little too much for me.

I want my hero possessive. Like the thought of any man touching his woman is unacceptable. Thinking about it once, maybe it's okay but he thought about it a few times. I know he won't let anyone touch her but he still thought about it. He was also fantasizing about her since she was 13. At least, he didn't do anything until she's 18.

It has epilogues. Married with kids.

If it wasn't for the grooming bits and not giving h a college trial period, I'd rate this higher. But it IS a Jessa Kane plus Alexa Riley novella so...

THE GOOD:
1. Smutty & sweet romance
I liked secretly-obsessed 35yo Russian hitman H who’d been the bodyguard of18yo sheltered flirty college-bound virgin h since she was 13yo after her mom died. H had been biding his time until his 5-year contract agreement with h’s politician father was done before he claimed h sexually and officially as his wife. She thought her desire for H was 1-sided since she did all she could to flirt and seduce him but H was often non-responsive. Sometimes she’d see quick glimpses of something in his eyes/face but H was quick to mask it.

2. Good straightforward romance/rom dev/S chem/hot detailed bareback S scenes with breeding intent.

3. Likable chars and character development
Mostly from H&h finally honestly talking about their feelings and plans for each other. Like that h didn’t easily give in to H when it came to her college plans. She wasn’t a doormat and gave him some sass, which he tried to tamp down but ultimately supported since it was part of h’s character.

MEH or the BAD:
1. As much as I liked H’s OTT obsession and possessive protective claims towards h, it had some grooming sense to it. H admitted to wanting h since they 1st met when she was 13yo and he was 30yo. It's not so much the huge age-gap but h's initial age, when H started wanting her/taking care of her/and planning to claim her. H became responsible for taking care of h due to her neglectful and busy father, including buying her clothes and feeding her. So, her calling him “Uncle” was true in a way since H became a father-figure to her and both even said so.

2. It would’ve felt less groom-y if H gave h at least 1 week (or better yet 1 month) to attend college on her own (or even at least with him watching her in the background) to give her the freedom she wanted to experience as a young adult. And to prove to herself and to us readers that her feelings for H was truly due to an adult love and not some kind of transference of child-father gratitude with some mix of sexual attraction.

Sexual History:
18yo homeschooled virgin h had never been kissed or touched sexually by anyone other than H. She was sheltered by her wealthy politician father since her mom’s death 5 years ago. Her father assigned H to protect h, especially from male admirers including from H himself. She had desired H since she was 16 and accidentally walked in on him showering and self-pleasuring there. She flirted and tried to seduce him by sitting on his lap and wearing sexy clothing for him since. But H was self-controlled to not fall for it. H was persistent and loyal to his 5-year contract with her father. This one was just okay for me. It had the usual Alexa Riley flare and OTT moments that I've come to expect from these authors. The characters just weren't doing it for me though and I found myself rushing through their non-intimate moments. Still a recommend if you're looking for a fast and sexy read.

Really, really a bad idea to read Alexa Riley's book 3 times straight without rest. Because, what? The same formula, of course. Too fucking bad I really love the cover! Also there's Jessa Kane! I know I'm not really into her books but it isn't that BAD. Well, here's my rant...

First, the age gap. Since the girl, Anya already legal, I'm okay. She's going to college and away from her father. But the lust for her brooding bodyguard, Sasha already out of control. She seduced him many times. Sometimes she confused with his attitude towards her.

Second, 'Daddy's talk. Grrr... I love daddy kinks but this is really out of nowhere. Also, they're 'deliberately' makes everything looks like a taboo. Yikes!

Third and last, the breeding talk. It annoyed me. NOT SEXY AT ALL! I wanna puke. Really... Anyway, the story hardly memorable for me. The only thing I remember is the baby talks and a lot of cums.

It’s been awhile since I read an Alexa Riley book and so you could imagine my excitement to take a break in reading your standard typical love stories. I mean they are great and all but there is just something so fun, dirty and relaxing when reading an Alexa Riley book.

Taken by the Russian is definitely your sexy and very dirty hot read!! This is what I would totally expect of Alexa Riley. Hot alpha Russian bodyguard and the virgin heroine that he sworn to protect!! Yeah, you guessed it, Sasha will stop at nothing in claiming Anya, the woman that he has protected for the last five years. Now that Anya is an adult and will be going off to college, Sasha decides to claim and breed her. Toss in the daddy kink factor, then you got one dirty erotic romance read. While I am not big on Anya calling Sasha “Daddy” so many times, I was able to overlook it and enjoy this fast paced read.

I think the authors did the BARE MINIMUM of having the FMC be 18. But you could tell the 35 year old MMC wished she was younger, as evidenced by the quotes I provided below. My issue is NOT with the age gap. It’s with the continual references to how hard it was for a, then, 30 year-old man to stay away from a 13 year-old girl, he had to make a contract with her father that she wouldn’t be touched for 5 years, y’know, until she’s of legal age 🤢. He apparently looked at, thought about, and got off to Anya way before she was 18. And that’s why I rated this 1⭐️. It wasn’t just mentioned once (which is disgusting), it was frequently mentioned, so I couldn’t enjoy anything else in this book.

Be prepared to be extremely uncomfortable:

“My time has been bided for five long years, and my reward is almost ready to be claimed.”

“I’ve cursed my refusal to break vows on more occasions than I can remember, but I’m a man of my word.”

“You jumped into my arms once…long ago. You could barely get your legs around me then, but you tried. You tried so hard. In the past Alexa Riley has always been a fun, sweet, scorching hot sexy short read for me.

I have so many titles to choose from and this title caught my eye.

I know what to expect with these stories but this one just made me so uncomfortable, here are my reasons why

Sasha the bodyguard – don’t know his age – he has been OBSESSED with Anya for 5 years, I have no problem with this until I discovered that Anya was THIRTEEN when he first met her and he had sexual fantasies about her then.

Anya in eighteen and off to college independence AT LAST, she wonders around her home in her skimpy bikini (which Sasha bought) and underwear knowing Sasha is watching her, she has had a crush on him since she was sixteen and she calls him Uncle Sasha, even at eighteen she sits on his lap in said wet bikini in front of her father.

Sasha says “I was to breed you in our marriage bed, angel”. And “You were mine to breed the day we locked eyes” SHE WAS THIRTEEN.

This is what made me give up I knew he had ink but SERIOUSLY

Through the water -speckled glass, I saw his naked, six -foot -eight frame covered in jet-black ink,

AR barely has any respect for social boundaries. I think they feel breaking social norms = progression. All, ALL their books fuels misogyny. The men are always like predators and apparently it's a good thing? Their writing mostly have underlying ever so subtle message - women don't know what they want or need. Men know what a woman needs. If a man wants a woman that's what she needs and he is right to "make" her see that by not taking no for an answer. That's persuasion and what calls for sexual harassment cases are romantic actions. However only for heroes. Only the bitch OW, who's a slut really pursues the man. That's not romantic. That's clingy and annoying. They should know when to move on, because a guy knows his mind and pursuing him won't change his mind, but when HE does it, it should change the female's mind.
Also men rape because they are feeling too much, they love you too much, it's your fault, you made him this way.
Now I have been guilty of enjoying some of their books. But doesn't mean I'm blind, and I'm not one of their minions.

However this is not just trying to break social norms. This is crime. This is pedophilia. And it is NOT ok.
You may argue that it is work of fiction, but writers have moral obligations to society. Their books kept on telling us misogyny is acceptable. It's romantic. Bullying is romantic. Rape is romantic. Abuse, and stalking and public sex is romantic. And 18 year old reading these and believing these are still on her.

Now they're telling us pedophilia is romantic? And we're supposed to enjoy it? So what if every pedophile in the country now bids their time, keeps your son or daughter in virtual lockdown until they're barely legal and strikes? By the time you find out Stockholm syndrome has set in, so they are "in love" with their predators. So it will be acceptable to you. Technically not doing anything illegal would make it moral and ethical for you? If yes, then I'm being judgemental, you're a threat to society's well bring too.

If you found this book romantic or enjoyable, I think we might have a problem with each other. However, I'm still ok with respecting your choices, as long as you don't poke me.
