Holly Boldt is a witch with a problem. Make that lots of problems.
Following her banishment from the supernatural world, she is thrust into a halfway house for paranormal misfits like her. With a warring shifter and vampire roommate and a cantankerous ghost landlady, she's got a full plate.
Unsurprisingly, she finds solace in the human residents of the small coastal town and begins to feel like maybe--just maybe--she could finally have a normal life.
Until her best friend is accused of a murder she didn't commit.
Holly is forced to use her magic to solve the crime before she loses her friend, not to mention her last shred of sanity!
This boxed set includes the first three books in the Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery series by Danielle Garrett. Come explore Beechwood Harbor, a quaint town where witches, vampires, ghosts, and shifters all live, work, play, and mostly, get along. Full of humor, magic, mystery, and a sprinkle of romance, this series has something for everyone.
Great read. Not always happy with the Nick/Holly chemistry (I'm an Adam fan), but loved ones the relationship friend growth with Lacey. Have already started the next book.
DNF. I wished I had been able to overlook the minor annoyances but sometimes a writer just rubs you the wrong way. This sounded like a fun series and seriously, I didn't give it a chance. It just seemed too fluffy, the main protagonist, too irreverent. I guess I was just in a mood that day but now that I'm annoyed, I can't just go back. So many books, so little time. Maybe you'll love this one more than m I did.
There wasn't anything horribly wrong with these books, but that's the best I can say about them. The characters do unreasonable things for nonsensical reasons that just stretched my credulity way too far.
This is the first book by this author that I have read or heard but it won't be my last, in fact before I had finished the first book I was adding the next set of books to my wish list. This was a great way to spend an audible credit, as you get three books for the price of one. Each story is a different story but continues on from the last. I loved the characters, especially the way Holly has to navigate her way through the human and supernatural world, with human friends and co workers and living with a dog shifter, a ghost and even a diva vampire. It makes for an entertaining listen. Murder's a witch book one. This is the first book and introduces you to the characters and the reason why Holly is staying in beechwood harbor and not in the magical community where she is free to use her magic. I enjoyed this book and was straight on to the next book. The mystery was good and I liked the way magic was used to solve the case. When Holly's boss is killed in the alley behind the coffee shop and the one and only friend looks like the prime suspect, Holly has no choice but to use her powers and skills to help find the killer. Twice the witch book two This book is more on the paranormal side with Holly helping a ghost find her way and a killer. This one was a lot of fun and I loved it. When the cousin of one of Holly's co-worker goes missing, Holly as local private investigator Nick to help find her. Then she discovers her ghost wondering around on the beach with no idea how she got there. Can Holly help the ghost and find a way to steer Nick onto the right track? The fact he is looking for a killer not a missing person? Witch slapped book three I normally don't like vampire books (because hey vampires are just creepy) but I actually enjoyed this one. There is so much for Holly to contend with in this book from her parole officer moving in, to meeting Adam's parents, to killer vampires and a murder to solve that it never slowed down or had time to get boring. Holly joins Nick on one of his cases and find herself caught up in a murder investigation. Just when she needs to keep under the radar and be a good little witch but she can't let Nick investigate a case involving vampires, especially as he has no idea they even exist. I like the narrator and she was the reason I have the series ago in the first place.
The boxed set contains the three books "Murder's a Witch", "Twice the Witch", and "Witch Slapped". This is a good series with well defined characters. Holly Boldt is a complicated yet sympathetic character. She is a powerful witch that has been banished to Beechwood Harbor for being the ex girlfriend of a supernatural terrorist whose activities were unknown to her. The ruling organization of the supernaturals, discriminates against Holly because of the power that runs in her family. In the first book, she walks a tight rope between helping her best friend who's accused of murder and catching the notice of the Supernatural Protection Agency (SPA). She has an unauthorized business of making and selling potions that could land her back in supernatural jail. During her adventures and danger avoidance, she captures the notice of a couple of possible love interests. In the second book, Adam, a shifter, becomes her boyfriend. Although Nick the human PI still looks like he would like the job. A new and glamorous witch shows up at the manor and tries to move in on Adam. Along with helping Nick solve another murder, heading off Evangeline's moves on Adam, and trying to fly under the radar, Holly feels a monster migraine comming on when an amnesiac ghost shows up that doesn't know that she is dead and has no memory of her past or who murdered her. To top it off she is the cousin of Holly's friend. She must ghost whisper her into maintaining the ghost's sanity while trying to help her remember. In the third book "Witch Slapped", Holly must juggle her relationship with Adam, meeting Adam's parents, staying out of supernatural jail, and being pressed into service by Harvey the SPA agent. To stay out of jail she must act as an investigator to ferret out a vampire problem. Holly is able to kick some butt, unleashing the stunning power in her hand. Will Holly get her Master Potion Maker's license? Will she come back from Seattle to Adam and her friends? I am now downloading the next book "Witch Way Home".
I'm always looking for new series. I have been reading a lot of cozy mysteries with a supernatural twist. I really liked this series and it was great to get the first three books in one volume. First, the main character knows she is a witch and knows about her powers. So the first book did not have the typical late discovery of powers that many others series start out with. The author does not overwhelm you with too many characters. I enjoyed each mystery and the process of solving. The main character is strong and likable. Side characters build and develop in the series. World building is done at a great pace over the three books. I definitely want to read the next one. I'm so glad I tried this starter. The audio version is great and I both listened and read. I have bought other audio books with this narrator, Amanda Ronconi,. I really enjoy her narration.
Like watching a teen TV show: fun, not too deep, corny plot
The story needs professional editing as there are imbalances in details and problems with punctuation. The murder suspects are shallow and lack proper development, and the author spends too much time describing characters making tea and doing other mundane activities. The protagonist seems rather unconcerned with the death of her boss and does not show signs of trauma or fear that a murderer is on the loose. Her use of magic is almost superfluous as it’s not central to most of the story. The climax and solution to the crime lack “stakes” as the protagonist is not in much danger. The possible romantic connections with the roommate and PI are slow to develop and lack chemistry.
I only read the first two books as I lost interest due to the plot pacing problems and never-ending comma errors.
kindle unlimited 3 set {1-3 so not 4 or 5 or prequel}, couldn't remember that reviewed the individual books so going through and doing any that needed it, read them before not sure why no review
A Witch of a Day {prequel I think, not listed on amazon, maybe subscriber only} Murder's a Witch: A Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery (Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries Book 1 Twice the Witch: A Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery (Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries Book 2) Witch Slapped: A Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery (Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries Book 3) The Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries Boxed Set {1-3{ Witch Way Home: A Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery (Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries Book 4) Lucky Witch: A Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery (Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries Book 5)
I'm not much of a cozy reader, but I've been dabbling my toes in them. Then I ran across this paranormal witchy mystery series and it caught my eye. So I decided on the box set, started listening (I'm an audiobook reader most of the time) and haven't stopped since!
It's a bit campy, with the typical heroine who doesn't have a cop background yet somehow gets sucked into all kinds of trouble. But it delivers on what I expected. Because this isn't supposed to be a serious read, it's supposed to be fun---and it is! A great cast of characters, decent plot lines that keep you guessing, fun times with potions and other magical creatures. What more could you ask for? I've already downloaded the next box set.
Fun cozy mysteries with a good balance between murder-solving, magic and relationships. An easy read or listen that is original enough to be entertaining while not getting too complex. The magical system is easy to understand and the introduction to different supernatural types is gradual. I want to hear more about Holly’s backstory and what it’s like inside the Haven system, so I’m looking forward to it earring more of the series!
💖 I LOVED THE SERIES 💖 I LOVED THE SERIES, a magical house that responds to it's emotional ghost owner. Magical paranormal's that rent the rooms or are in hiding, placed there by the law. Holly had been done wrong with a little help from herself and being from an infamous family she is getting painted with the same brush. I like the narrator, the story, the characters and the writing. I recommend this series.
I loved the overall stories and the characters, but for books 1&2, I guessed the big reveal long before it occurred. I also listened to this on audiobook and for the 3rd book, there were way too many characters for the narrator to keep up with. If it hadn’t been for the book announcing the characters prior to talking, it would’ve been difficult to tell apart, as 2-3 characters has the same ‘voice’ with the same inflections.
If you like cozies with a paranormal twist then you’ll enjoy this series. Holly lives in a house with other supers and is making a new life in a small non paranormal town. She gets caught up in murder and eventually helps out her friend with other cases as well. There is a romance that adds to the books but doesn’t take away from the mystery.
There are 'paranormal' live at Beechwood Manor just any regular guys with jobs, bills to pay, fall in love and meet the parents. The difference is that they might have to watch their temper so no lightning shot out of their hand when angry. Overalls this is a very good series with enjoyable characters and story that are keeps getting better.
This series has just enough magic and mystery to keep reading to the end. A little clean romance and lots of fun magical creatures. They are basically mysteries with a powerful witch as the one doing the investigations, even though she's not supposed to get involved.
I’ve read all the beechwood harbor series, the ghost spinoff series, the series with Anastasia. I’ve read the novellas and short stories too in the world of beechwood harbor.
I love each of these books and all the characters in the books. I wish I could read these books for the first time again. Perfect balance of cozy, mysterious, funny, and even romance.
I had never read this author and saw the kindle unlimited boxed set and thought I’d give them a try. I wasn’t disappointed! A great read and I’m headed to download book four.
This story grabbed me from the beginning and never let go. The pages flew by and I can't wait until I can read the next book to see if everything works out well for Holly.
These three books have humor, vampires, shifters, witches, humans, and loads of mystery, murder, and mahem. And not to mention, ghosts. If you like paranormal, you'll like these books. Highly recommend.
I enjoyed these books. I like Holly and her friends. She is a bit nosey for a witch! The town is the worst for gossip. The ghosts add humor to the story and the house that rejects tenants due to the emotions of the the ghost is interesting.
Love this series of three and all of the mysteries and magic plus the combination of witches vampires and shifters to keep you on edge and not stop reading until completely finished. Recommend it to everyone
Love this series! I like to world these characters live in, and I am looking forward to learning more about the Haven system. I am a bit confused by the romance in these books, Holly and Adam seem like a forced match and I am not sure how long they'll be together.
I really enjoyed the quirky characters and interesting mysteries. A bunch of misfit paranormal people rent a room in a large and prestigious manor. Their landlord is a ghost. When a witch moves in, excitement kicks in as she seems to be a trouble magnet. She is also extremely good at investigating and fixing the problems. Great series.
