Overall, The Throwaway had that “steal a couple of minutes to get an extra chapter in” quality for me. The chase for vindication, the Americans vs The Russians, the plight of the average Joe: all got me wanting to read more! This is a very good thriller that makes me excited to check out more of Modeci’s other work.

Waaaaay over the top - super, indestructible Mark the lobbyist gets sent to Russia after being set up as a spy. If you can set aside that nothing is realistic here, for instance, Mark only needs a few minutes to recover from massive bodily injuries before heroically enduring ever more unbelievable circumstances, you might enjoy this fast paced rock'em sock'em action fest as Mark struggles to the end to redeem himself, get back to his wife and "unborn child" (and boy, does that ever get referenced to death) and put the bad guys out of business by getting revenge and exposing their nefarious deeds. Yeah, it's not perfect but it is entertaining! (whew.) No spoiler alert needed - it's clear from the beginning what kind of ride this is going to be and to the author's credit, it's written pretty well for this type of book.
This was a good book to read! Had gotten my second Covid Vaccine and was dealing with VERY uncomfortable symptoms. So I basically curled up in bed and read this book! It was a perfect distraction!! It’s a thriller alright!!!
Didn’t hate the plot, but the writing was torture. So many poor adjectives and twisted similes and metaphors. It read like an extended middle school short story.
