Hidden somewhere deep within, the world is a burning flame. Its light is blinding. Its heat is deadly. It's a fire fueled by hatred, by rage and by vengeance. Used, abused and left for dead, the greatest foe the Suicide Squad has ever faced returns, more powerful than ever, to burn down the world Amanda Waller has given everything to protect. Zod is here. Another excellent outing with the Suicide Squad from the Rebirth universe. The writing is really top notch and kept my interest throughout. The DCU should take a page from these stories if they want to continue their success from the last film. It was also a treat to see artwork by Stjepan Šejić; who is far and away my favorite comic book artist. It's bittersweet reading graphic novels with his artwork knowing he has vowed never to work for a major comic book company again. Still, he self-publishes his own stories now so the content hasn't dried up yet. If you enjoy the Suicide Squad then you will definitely enjoy these stories. I can't wait to tear through Book 3.
Loved book 2 and the whole story as it continues to grow and unfold. Love seeing hartcourt and waller go at it. Love how they brought ZOD into the picture in this series. Just an all around well written story with excellent art, coloring and dialog. Really really have just loved reading these first 2 volumes of the rebirth of suicide squad. They did a great job with ALL the characters in every way and the main point for me is to be interested and engaged in the story and they have more then delivered so far.
While I have been enjoying the more character focused approach, it was a real nice little blast from the past to have an Ostrander-penned mission full of questionably ethical international espionage and everyone calling Boomerang "Boomerbutt", as is tradition. (Also the traditional , I guess? It's very different circumstances, but that's still a weird parallel to have.)
I really enjoy Romita art! But I don't care for boring stories with a random spy! I don't mind twisty, convoluted plots, but sometimes they feel too twisty for their own good. I find Croc and Enchantress's love story so fun!
