I LOVED this book because I think it was HILARIOUSLY FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!! P.T. is doing a sandapalooza thing which is something that you do to see who makes stuff the best with sand. BUT he also needs to run a restaurant. AND he also needs to solve a mystery about a missing tiara and the maid didn't steal it and everyone thinks that the maid did it. AND IT WAS REALLY FUNNY!!!!!!!! And that is a lot a stuff P.T. needs to handle.

Review for „Sandapalooza Shake-Up” by Chris Grabenstein:

It’s the third book from the “Welcome to Wonderland” series written by the bestseller author, Chris Grabenstein. The action takes place mostly on the beaches in Florida in the 2000s. The Wilkies’ motel became a celebrity ever since the filming of the movie “Beach Party Surf Monkey”, the Wonderland Motel also became a tourist attraction and business is blooming especially when the “Sandapalooza” Sand Sculpting Competition takes place there and the motel is visited by the Pettybone family. Everything takes a wrong turn when the famous Twittleham Tiara is stolen and Clara the maid is suspected of the theft. Things get worse when the owner of the Conch Reef Resort’s business goes well miraculously, other robberies are committed and many suspects appear on the list. It is up to P.T. and his friend Gloria Ortega to solve the case and save the family business.
Mr. Grabenstein attracts his readers through his simple writing style, also through a large amount of humor, suspense, mystery, adventure and an unforgettable vacation on the beach. Friendship, the importance of family, courage, doubts, loyalty, ingenuity, competition, determination and laughter exist on every page one reads. Mr. Grabenstein’s novel can be considered the comic version of Agatha Christie’s novels. It’s an exceptional novel which deserves more than five stars. Another ingenious thing about this novel is the use of puns like “Michelsadgelo”, the name of Travis’ and Darryl’s business. The humor used by the writer isn’t an offending one neither the stand-up comedy type. It’s the old American healthy type of humor. Almost everything is funny from the situations in which some characters are placed into, their exaggerated behavior like the Pettybones and the Conch Reef Resort owner’s to some of the characters’ names (Pettybone, Twittleham).
Along with R. L. Stine, Beatrice Masini, J. K. Rowling, Sophie Audouin-Mamikonian, Matt Haig, James Patterson and Sir Steve Stevenson, Mr. Grabenstein is one of the modern writers who created a spectacular world and revolutionized literature through their unique style. An inborn talent and one of the masters of comic novels, Chris Grabenstein can be considered the creator of comic adventure mystery novel for children. The writer can also be considered an American version of the Romanian writer and playwright, I. L. Caragiale because he creates the images of different stereotypes, characters and society in a humorous style.
I recommend this novel to readers 12+.

The wacky Wonderland Motel is doing better than ever after an unforgettable blockbuster movie was shot there. All the rooms are booked, the newly opened Banana Shack is a hit with guests, and the hotel has even snagged its first royal guests! P.T. Wilkie, the greatest storyteller on St. Pete Beach, and his pal and partner, business savvy Gloria, are all set to enjoy the hard earned success and have fun at the Sandapoolza sandcastle sculpture contest. But then the sleazy owners of the Conch Reef Resort next door are up to their dirty tricks again and to make matters worse, the royal guests' priceless tiara goes missing. It's up to P.T. and Gloria to find the thief and save their beloved motel!

Chris Grabenstein returns to his rollicking Welcome To Wonderland middle-grade series with book three, Sandapalooza Shake-Up, and he brings all the wacky, laugh-out-loud good times from books one and two with him.

I was super excited when this book showed up on my doorstep because I've come to expect great things from this series and book three does not disappoint! Sandapalooza Shake-Up is bursting with this series' signature charming humor, addicting and clever mysteries and adventure, and surprising heart. Fast-paced, with a pitch-perfect middle-grade voice, Sandapalooza Shake-Up delivers zings and excitement from page one and doesn't let up until the very last word. The age-appropriate humor is outrageously over-the-top in the best way possible, while the mysteries are smartly crafted with plenty of twists and thrills, and both will keep young readers wildly entertained and thoroughly engaged.

All the wonderful characters I've come to love (P.T., Gloria, P.T.'s mom and grandpa, Gloria's dad, etc.) are back in Sandapalooza Shake-Up, as well as some fun, quirky new characters (a Parrothead named Jimbo, some laid-back sand artistes, some snooty royals). And of course, the most unforgettable and lovable character of all- the Wonderland Motel itself – takes center stage with its kooky statues, delicious new food stand, and enthralling stories!

Sandapalooza Shake-Up is another fantastically fun and off-the-charts funny book in a superb series that I've come to really love and look forward to. A perfect summer read for kids!

The third entry in this series provides more info on the characters and thrusts them into another mystery to solve. This time a royal crown was stolen from British guests. The shenanigans and stratagems used by the two junior detectives are funny and will appeal to middle grade readers.

Another fun filled adventure with P.T. Wilkie and his family and friends at The Wonderland Motel in Florida. Things at the Wonderland are going wonderfully after being the setting for the movie Beach Party Surf Monkey. P.T., his mom and grandfather finally have the success they deserve and the scheming Conch’s at the Conch Reef Resort are fuming. To top it off, the Wilkie’s are hosting members of the royal family, Lord and Lady Pettybone and their teenaged daughter Lady Lily. The Pettybone’s are traveling with their family treasure the Twittleham Tiara. When the tiara goes missing, guests begin checking out the motel en masse. P.T. and his best friend Gloria are determined to find the culprits and save the Wonderland’s reputation. Meanwhile, the beach is filled with professional sand sculptors taking part in Sandapalooza, a sand sculpture competition. Could one of these sculptors be the father P.T. never knew? The numerous pen and ink illustrations add to the fun.

This book has the kids saving the motel once again, this time by participating in a sand contest and solving a string of crimes!

The series’ greatest strength is its madcap humor. Kids will get a kick out of all the crazy antics involved with saving the motel. The author weaves in a bit of a mystery surrounding the identity of P.T.’s father throughout the series, which adds a thread of continuity between the different books (though they could easily each be read on their own). Gloria’s intelligence and ingenuity are also a major plus. She’s a business whiz, and is always spouting random business terms that P.T. doesn’t understand. Middle grade readers can actually soak in a few of the fundamentals of business in these books, but they definitely won’t feel like they’re learning. Plus, the whole idea of living in a motel is just plain fun!

Welcome back to Wonderland! This time a sparkling tiara, daddy mysteries, sand so much sand, and tons of delicious burgers.

I just adore this series, it is fun, sparkly, full of imagination, silly characters, friendship, and wild stories made up by P.T..

I will make a good/not so good review, though mostly it will be a GOOD review.

Good:
-Seeing P.T. again and see him try all sorts of fun things for the motel. The things he comes up with are just amazingly fun and I actually can't wait to see him as an adult and using his stories for a real job. I wonder if he will continue in the hotel/motel business or if he will be an entertainer somewhere.
I also still think it is hilarious that at times he doesn't know some words, but then when making up the most sparkling stories he knows words that I never expected him to know.
-The tiara and the British people who belong to it. I had a laugh how stiff the parents were and how their teen daughter was. She was totally drooling over Pinky and the movie, and I thought it really adorable. Sure, she also had some moments that were pretty dumb. Like the whole tiara business and how she truly thought she could be a princess. :P
-What happened to the tiara and the whole mystery surrounding it. It was just so much fun clueing things together and also seeing what Gloria and P.T. were uncovering. I always love competing against characters, see if I can discover the truth faster than they can. Sometimes I do, sometimes I just have to go with the flow of the story as the author keeps giving us twists and turns.
-The sandapalooza. Oh my, I just love a good sand (or ice) sculpture. I am happy that thanks to the illustrations I could also enjoy seeing them and not just forming them in my head.
-The whole is Travis my daddy or not. P.T. is still highly curious about his dad and who it may be. This time we have Travis (the guy hired to make sand sculptures) who was in the right spot in the right time 12/13 years ago. I quickly had a suspicion about how this would end, but it was still quite interesting to see how P.T. talked to Travis, how he tried to have him and his mom meet up.
-The food! Jimbo makes some great food and while there were some things in there that I cannot eat (allergies, ahoy) most of these foods are definitely on my OMG I wish I could eat those for real list.
Well, I say food, but later on when P.T. and Gloria make the food... eh. Not so much.
-The ending! It was just too much fun, and there was a new revelation about a big character who I don't like. So I was happy with this development. Yay!
-The illustrations! They just fit so well with the style of the book/story/characters. It is just as sparkly and fun.
-Seeing P.T. mom and Gloria's dad flirt a few times here and there. So cute! I am still hoping that these two will get closer and maybe even date.
-P.T. relationship with his grandpa. They are quite a match, and there were several sweet moments in this book between them.
-Gloria. She has some fabulous ideas, and she is a total wiz with business stuff.
-P.T. and Gloria's friendship. They just fit together so well, like hot chocolate and whipped cream or cookies and milk.

Not so good:
-Conch, I never liked him but he takes it a bit more in this one. I get that P.T. and co are also not that nice, but he is actually trying to damage them and won't be stopped by anything. I just feel he is way too much of a villain.
-I didn't like how the British went so far to accuse someone and even announce it on tv/radio. What the hell? You don't even know if she did it, but you are making it seem like you have a solid case.
-The stupidity of the people in the hotel. I was just groaning out loud with how people acted. OH NO, maybe MAYBE someone stole something let's just rampage back to another place. It was just way over the top for me. But maybe it is an American thing and it is normal there. :P

Still I had tons and tons of fun while reading it, I flew way too fast through this book, now I have to wait for the next one to come out in paperback. I would highly recommend this book to everyone! I am sure everyone will have a fabulous time at the Wonderland Motel.

*I received a free review copy of this book from the publisher through my district library services*

Deep literature this is not, but if you're looking for a fun, goofy, illustrated novel, this is a winner. The first two books have been popular in my library with steady circulation, and having a third book will probably increase that. Like the others, this book stars PT and his best bud Gloria, and also features his grandfather and mom. This time there is a mystery to be solved. A major theft at the Wonderland has left it empty as all their guests stream next door to the Conch resort. PT and Gloria have a few missteps but eventually solve the case and save the Wonderland (again).

Lucky me! I won this book in a FB contest and shared it with my grandson, who loves Chris Grabenstein books. He also loves to write and draw. I wouldn't recommend this book based on the illustrations, but I found the plot interesting and humorous for the intended audience. A fun mystery, but the references to book #2 made me want to read that even more. Thanks, Chris, I am looking forward to seeing your movie of the Limoncello sleuths.

Everything is great at the Wonderland Motel until someone steals a tiara from relatives of the royal family. False accusations and the always-willing-to-ruin-the-nextdoor-competition Conches come thisclose to shutting down the Wonderland. P.T. and Gloria finally track down the truth and he may also have discovered the identity of his long-missing father. Corny jokes and black-and-white illustrations add a light touch to the story.

Do you like books with adventure and competition? Do you also like books with sand sculptures? The perspective is told by the author. The genre is fiction. The main character's name is P.T. He lives in a motel with his family. He also has a best friend named Gloria. The setting takes place in present-day Florida. You would like this book if you like stories. An interesting part is when P.T. tries to make food and that doesn't go too well.

This is the first of the Welcome to Wonderland series that I listened to, rather than read. I couldn't stop laughing every time Mr. Conch spoke. He is the narcissistic owner of Conch Reef Resort, Wonderland's neighbor and nemesis. He sounded so familiar. I don't know if it was intentional, but it sure seemed that way to me. Check out the audio for a good laugh.

I really enjoy this series. Things are going well at the Wonderland when a very valuable tiara is missing and one of the Wonderland staff is accused. PT and Gloria must solve the crime to save the hotel and to prove their friend innocent.

This is my favorite series by Chris Grabenstein so far. P.T. and Gloria are off the solve another beach mystery…they keep it witty, entertaining, and full of mystery! I think Grandpa is still by favorite of all the oddball characters!

Although I didn’t love it quite as much as the 2nd book in the series, it was still a super cute story. I didn’t love the aspect of PT trying to figure out who his dad was, but it wasn’t unrealistic or out of place.
