Richard Bewes first experienced revival as a child, to the sound of thousands of African voices singing. In Under the Thorn Tree , he retells this and many other stories from his lifetime of working and living to further the Kingdom of Christ. Revival comes with the sole pursuit of Jesus – He encompasses everything.
A wonderful, fresh, exposition of the gospel with the perspective of East African brothers used to shed more light on the unfathomable depths of Jesus Christ. Loved it.
Only gave four stars rather than five as there are a few points that I couldn't quite get alongside. But overall it left me massively encouraged with our wondrous God. I recommend highly!
This book is fun of real fun yarns and some terrific stories of God's work in his church from across the world-especially East Africa- and throughout history. Those were a great encouragement. However, I felt that as a whole the book was weaker than the sum of it parts. It didn't seem to have much of a structure which mean I find it hard to follow despite being a very easy read.
Lots of thoughts on revival and where it comes from, using examples from Africa and around the world. It was a bit disjointed, jumping here and there, but fairly interesting.
