So, when my life was turned upside down by my brother’s disappearance, I didn’t give up hope.
But, I did give up Sidney.
Her smile, her lips, her sweet scent, all of it haunted my dreams. And, when it didn’t, she was the only thing keeping me alive while the world exploded around me.
Some of my comrades have tasted the “exotic” women, but they never pique my curiosity.
How could they?
When I’ve tasted the sweetest nectar, straight from the source.
But, this was long, long ago.
She’s gone now.
Or is she?
Her phantom keeps haunting me, even as I’m stationed in Vietnam.
This is no place for her and yet here she is, as free as a jungle bird, and just as beautiful.
It might kill me. I might have to go to the ends of the Earth to convince her to come back.
But, you know what they say…
Finders keepers. And now that I’ve found her again I won’t make the same mistake twice.
This is the prequel to the Vanguard Security Series by S.J. Bishop. If you like Willow Winters , Kirsten Ashley and Nora Roberts , then you'll love a series that combines all of their best traits in a fast-paced, captivating, sizzling hot romance.
What a brilliant and interesting short read this one was.
A Navy seal who joined up to search for his missing brother, a seal who gave up everything he loved and made it his mission to find his brother in the jungle in a Vietnamese village, even 15 years later he hold out hope.
A journalist who was in a rut at the job in the city who travelled to Vietnam to find her story, a story that’ll expose what goes on in the jungle. A woman with a broken heart and a mission is surely going to find what she’s after, right?
But when that Navy Sea and the Journalist land eyes upon each other it’s like things turn back in time and they’re together when they were both happy but that doesn’t last long and feelings flare up and anger spills out and watching these two interact is damn well fun and interesting!
This book is a second chance romance, proving that love conquers all in the end. I’ve never read a book that focused on a Navy Seal but this one was definitely interesting and a book that’ll make me read more of this kind of romance in the future. I’m a huge love of Second chance romances and that’s exactly what this little beauty is.
This is my first read by SJ Bishop and certainly won’t be my last. :)
Carefully, I wrapped my arms around her torso, pulling her close. I felt like if I squeezed her too hard, she would disappear forever.
This was a prequel with potential.
Kirk, a soldier, and Sidney, a journalist, were high school sweethearts who were separated for a ten year period, but never forgot one another despite the painful circumstances that ended their relationship. When they unexpectedly reconnect in a Vietnamese village in the jungle (both of them on a quest for answers that intersect in different ways) there's much to be personally addressed, worked through and resolved in order to get past the hurt, guilt and anger that lies between them.
Unfortunately, there are other mysterious parties who are aware of their presence and have no intention of letting them live that long...
This was an interesting tidbit, written in the first person/dual POV format, that moved at a fairly rapid pace, had its share of conflict, chemistry and violence, and held my attention for the duration. Certain aspects were dealt with and/or resolved a bit quickly, which messed with some of the believability factor on my end. Even so, I found it easy enough to go along for the ride.
I needed something short and sweet to complete a book challenge before April arrived and this fit the bill. Please note that the story ended at 62% (a copy of Martin was also included in my copy).["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I was hooked with this fast paced second chance romance. Kirk became a Navy SEAL to find his missing brother and ten years later comes across the love of his life Sidney while on a mission. This is a quick read that will hold your attention from beginning until the very end, I’m jumping right into Martin’s story next.
This is definitely not the kind of story that we have come to expect with S.J. Bishop but it was still good. 10 years ago Kirk Houston broke Sidney's heart when he left, with no notice, to join the Navy and try to find his missing brother. Now Kirk is a Navy Seal and in Vietnam, the last place his brother was known to have been, and he is hoping that this time he will find him. And Sidney is an American journalist also in Vietnam and when she discovers that Kirk is also there all of the old feelings come back with full force. All the pain, anger and even the love that she felt for him, the one she has never been able to get over or replace, and she wants nothing to do with him. But when Kirk learns that there is a man supposedly being held by the Gorillas, who looks like him, he believes it is his brother and he is bound and determined to find out if it is true. Only Sidney thinks that it is a set up and refuses to let him go alone and accompanies him on his dangerous mission. What happens next? You will have to read it to find out.
Kirk is a Navy SEAL on a mission with his team to capture a gorilla leader in VietNam about ten years after the war ended for the United States. He is also on a personal mission to find his brother that was in the war and has been missing all this time. He made one big mistake when he joined the Navy on his quest to find his brother, he didn't talk it over with his girl and he didn't even say goodbye.
Sidney is now a journalist on her own quest and she has been living in VietNam in a village looking for the real story of what is happening in to the people of VietNam. Both Kirk and Sidney are shocked when they meet in her small village when he is on patrol and she gives him a second chance.
Tricked by a local woman, they head into the jungle on the search for Kirk's brother and then the excitement begins. The story moves quickly, the romance is smoking but it could use more details and a bit more character development. It is a short story prequel to a series and gets the reader interested in reading more about the hot SEALs that make up Vanguard Security.
Short, fast passed, action packed, emotionally engaging wild second chance romantic adventure. Loved this peek into the beginning of her new Vanguard Security series. Keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen.
Kirk a sexy, charming, intelligent, hot alpha male SEAL on a personal mission to find his brother that went missing years ago. Sidney is sweet, sexy and the girl he left behind with a broken heart to enlist with out telling her. She is now a journalist looking to expose the real reasons why the US is still sending soldiers to Vietnam. Old wounds rip open when they run into each other unexpectedly but the heat of the attraction they share has survived the years they spent hurting (missing each other).
A short and sweet read, but amazing introduction to the series. Sydney and Kirk have a second chance at love. After spending the last ten years apart because of kirk's obsession with finding out what happened to his brother, these two find one another again in an unexpected situation. With his obsession being as bad as it is, Kirk leads them into a trap and they almost lose their lives. I cannot wait to see how the series pans out in the future, if this is just a taste, I can't wait to jump in with both feet! I'm voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.
5 stars I purchased this August 2017 and received a free copy of Vanguard Security The Prequel in the box set by SJ Bishop. This review was given freely. Navy Seal Kirk bumps into his first love, Journalist Sidney, while searching for his brother in post war Vietnam. This is a well balanced novella filled with intrigue, action, some violence, and a little steamy romance. The strong, sensitive and at times rash side of Kirk's personality is portrayed while introducing the more cautious and cerebral side of his best buddy and wingman Martin.
Definitely different read from what I am use to reading. Navy Seal anguished with the disappearance of his brother 10 yrs ago and is on the hunt when someone from his past ends up in the same place as he is, impossible, he is in the jungle, she shouldn't be there. Just his imagination running rapid, or is it? Gotta read, good book and its fast.
Kirk joined the service to find his missing brother. In doing so, he left Sydney and broke her heart. Now they are both in Vietnam, and somehow cross paths. This time he won't let her go, but will she open her heart again? End was ok, but not what I wanted for them. Although there are 10 chapters for Martin, it is not a complete story. Just a teaser to get the book.
A soldier searching for his missing brother. A woman in search of a story. Both brought together after years of heartbreak. Will they love again or will they forever hate each other
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. This is a quick fast pasted second chance romance with a HEA ending. Kirk leaves for military and just disappears from Sidney's life. When there paths cross again all those old feeling are still there for both of them. Thanks for the great read!
