Carmella was still a teen when the Motherships first appeared dotting the skies over the Earth. For years the world tried to normalize while the silent Motherships hovered. And then they arrived, promising that they meant no harm. But within 10 years, 80% of the world's population would be wiped out. Including everyone that Carmella loved. In book one Carmella comes face to face with one of the blobs. He does an impetuous act of kindness by impregnating her with a child to help ease her loneliness. But now the risks are grave as Bilal cannot imagine leaving her and his child behind--yet the Centaurians have other ideas. In book two Bilal has been granted five years by the Centaurians to study his human mate and child, but each day he only falls deeper in love with his family and life as a human. As Bilal’s time on earth comes to a close he will need to fight against everything that he thought he knew about life in order to live the life that he’s always desired. In this final book of the Adaptation series Carmella, Bilal and baby Raj will take you on a journey of love, loyalty and a battle that transcends galaxies.
Pepper Pace is the pen name used by the author. Born and raised in Cincinnati, she has always enjoyed creativity. At a very young age, Pepper had a gift for art and would spend most of her spare time drawing images that she later began adding stories behind. Soon writing became more important than the illustrations and though she still loved art, it took a back seat to her real love.
Pepper wrote her first novel when she was 12 years old and had written 2 more by the age of 18. Too shy to share her work with anyone, Pepper stock piled her many stories into notebooks until she came upon Literotica.com and was compelled to share her craft.
Pepper became instantly popular and won several awards each year in which she submitted a story to the site. After receiving popular feedback, she grew in confidence and created a popular blog entitled Writing Feedback where she encourages her readers to interact with her on topics concerning, music, writing, art and pop culture, and can be contacted at her blog: pepperpacefeedback.blogspot.com/
Pepper lives in Cincinnati where many of her characters also reside.
This was a captivating read that was well seasoned with romance, suspense, and sci-fi elements... All in all, it was an allegory regarding the power of love and autonomy in Interracial relationships, as well as the balance of power within our society, which primarily hinges on socio-economic hierarchies, along with historical instances of racism and misogyny.
Pepper Page’s Adaptation 1 and 2 are an homage to the influence of the late Octavia Butler, and an outstanding set of work that places the author firmly in the company of said greatness. The characters are realistically rich written with all the foibles and weakness of humanity, along with the flashes of compassion and forgiveness shown by the human heroine. The alien hero is truly alien with very little “human“ attributes, but can arguably be seen to be the most human of all the books’ characters. Both grow emotionally, and in some respects, physically to become the perfect match for each other. The highest praise that way I can give a book is that feeling at the end of wanting… More! Ms. Pace, I want more…
This book makes me feel like I know these people on a personal level. Like I was there with them, felt their sorrow, happiness and pain.
I am going through withdrawals already.😶
I mean, I have not read one thing from this author that I didn’t like. I can clearly “see” everything I’ve read. Book 1 was amazing and book 2 most definitely didn’t let me know down. I highly recommend this series and any other books from this author.
When I saw Adaptation 2 was being released 9/20 I could not control myself. When the 20th approached I grabbed my iPad, kicked my feet up and began the long awaited sequel. Adaption picks up right where the first book leave off. It's a multicultural romance novel that only Pepper Pace could have thought of. The story return with our super sexy alien Bilial and his strong human mate Camille and their baby Raj....They are still on earth with the time limit...the story is so perfectly woven that you can not put it down....Ms. Pace would make Octavia Butler proud!
After reading Adaptation, I just had to preorder Adaptation 2.
The story continues where it left off, but we also see new developments and problems arising.
The Centaurians are to experience both unexpected surprises and true ripples in their community, whereas humans ought to find a way of purpose and meaning in their lives.
Bilal experiences the most important struggle of his life, meanwhile Carmella must overcome many things and find the answers to her problems. What she is not expecting is them coming not from outside, but from inside herself.
Finally, Raj. Omg, Raj I'm already in love with!!! He's the perfect, most awesome thing in Adaptation universe. And I hope it's not too selfish of me to expect a spinoff here, maybe in a fee years (no? please? pretty please, Pepper? I'll make you a nice pumpkin spice pie, if you come over *.* this is definitely not a bribe *.* my homemade cupcakes are awesome, as well *.*).
Overall, if you like scifi with romance with society issues with parenting stuff, do read Adaptation 2. You may read it stand alone, but to truly enjoy I suggest reading the first book ^.^
What a pleasure to read. I bought this book on preorder to make sure I received as soon as possible, but I took my time reading it. Now that I finished I plan on reading it again. I loved this story and Ms. Pepper Pace is one of my favorite authors. If you haven't read Adaptation 1 or 2 do yourself a favor and read both nooks in order you'll be glad you did. If you're a lover of sci-fi and romance novels this is the perfect book for you. Even if you're not a fan of sci-fi this might just change your mind. Congratulations Pepper Pace another job well done
Great ending to Bilal, Carmella, and Raj's story. I was tense for majority of the story. The challenges that were written were expertly crafted and, descriptions of Earth 2 and the Mother shop had my imagination reeling. I enjoyed the love between Bilal and Carmella. It was tastefully written -physically and emotionally. Great story!
The final chapters were kind of abrupt, could’ve goin into more detail about stuff but I still liked it anyway. The book overall was really good. Loved Bilal’s character, how he was so devoted to righting the wrong and to his family, and Raj too. Was gonna say wish there was a 3rd book, but it ended so beautifully I don’t even think they need one.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love both books. Although the series is long you stick with it because it is entrancing. A lot of thought and workmanship was put into this book (like so many of ms pace's books). It is hard to decimating without giving stuff away but if you like sci-fi with a sprinkling of romance, you will love this series.
Beautifully well thought out story...More humane in nature an alien
I truly truly love this series I really want to see what happens to little Raj. I must admit that it was difficult for me to picture the aliens with their tentacles. I kept thinking of octopus. I enjoyed the story about reaching across the races informing a family unit
i should have learned from her series Wheels of Steel…
…love Pepper Pace but after the 1st book, just stop. Her HEA books are more to my liking. Drama and needless twists and turns do little to add to the enjoyment of reading for me. Adaptation Book 1 was enough and from previous experience with this author I should have known.
We continue with the story of Bilal and Carmella. Bilal does the impossible and changes himself into a human/Centraurian hybrid. He then impregnates Carmella so they can have a child. Raj is born and he's amazing. We follow their life on their farm but this can only last so long. Bilal's family is determined to figure out what he's done. The epilogue is a bit abrupt.
Pepper Pace is an incredibly talented author and this installment was definitely worth the wait. Pepper takes us on a journey into Bilal, Carmella and their baby's lives on earth after Armageddon and the Centurians who are trying to separate them. It's a great read!
OMG! I am Silk happy about this book. Pepper out did herself this time. I read this book from cover to cover and was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I would recommend all of her books, but Adaptation is the best series.
Thank You!!! You are the best, I definitely enjoyed the way you were able to bring it all together!! Seriously though these two books have to become a movie! I don't knowhow, but it has to happen!!
I have always loved pepper pace, and i was use to her romance. To be able to write in another genre and do an excellent job is no small feat. She did it perfectly!
Excellent ending and excellent reading. Pepper did a great job of all story development and this second book was a lovely read. Of course I want more...Enjoy the read!
Seemed more like a great fan-fiction of Dawn, but I very much enjoyed it, even if was too light on the sci-fi elements and the world building than I would have preferred.
I'm not surprise that I really loved this book, Pepper Pace is an amazing author. I've read all of this remarkable author books and was never disappointmented. Please read this series, you will call in love just like I have.
I loved the level of representation for POC in this book as a SciFi story I could really identoy with the character on a persona l level I really felt lile I was there!
Not my fav Pace book but I loved how interesting and unique the story was. I did feel that the story dragged and could have been a couple of chapters shorter, but honestly, I enjoyed it.
I don't know what took me so long to read this series but I'm glad that I finally did. I know it's finished but more books could easily be added if she chooses.
