When Rob Smith and Mike Raiter travel to various churches and conferences they often observe two rather disconcerting trends: Christians either remaining stony-faced and disengaged during the songs, or passionately singing songs of minimal biblical or theological substance. Songs of the Saints is their call to revitalize congregational singing in our evangelical churches. It is a spirited plea to marry sound biblical theology and spiritually zealous hearts, and harness the God-given power of congregational singing to bring vitality and maturity to God's people. By exploring some of the songs in both the Old and New Testaments, Mike and Rob powerfully remind us why songs are such an important vehicle for glorifying God and sharing life-changing truths with each other.
What a great book. Perfect blend of practical wisdom and insightful theology. And written with clarity and precision. I want all the musicians at my church to read it!
A fantastic and refreshing book that looks at several of the key songs in the Bible and discusses what we can learn from them for our own church singing. I recommend this for all Christians and not just those involved in music ministry as singing is an activity and a privilege that God has given to all of his people.
Very good, very helpful read. There’s definitely a little bit of ‘grumpy old man’ vibes in every chapter. But theologically it’s excellent. The advice is, by and large, outstanding. If you're involved in music ministry, or just want to grow in your understanding of time spent singing together in church, this book has a lot of really valuable stuff.
