Parenting Teenage Girls: In the Age of a New Normal

Rate this book
Our girls have been born in a unique time in history... They have been given experiences and opportunities which former generations could have only dreamt about, but they are also facing challenges which have not confronted any other generation in the same way. Entitlement. Irregular emotions. Obsession with social media. Disrespect. Premature discovery of sex. These are just a few of the issues that parents raising this generation of girls are dealing with. In this book, teenage expert and author Michelle Mitchell draws upon decades of experience to reveal her top parenting strategies in response to the biggest issues impacting today's teenage girls. These strategies have been developed on the frontline of Michelle's extensive work with families and schools across Australia. Featuring straight forward and honest advice that really works, this book is a fresh and empowering resource for parents of teens and pre-teens.

This was really useful for tips and strategies to use for parenting of teenagers- could definitely apply to boys in some instances as well as girls - and trying to understand the teenage brain!! Loved the chapters on phone/social media use- really great tools to use.

I bought this book after hearing Michelle speak at a Resilient Kids Conference. My youngest kids were too young, at the time. This year, they turned 15 and 14 so I got it out. It’s been an excellent, calming and reassuring read.

I come from a very traditional, Biblical/Christian worldview and this does not explicitly do so. Occasionally, the author and I veered into different paths, but that wasn’t often and most of it was very compatible.

I’ve chosen to homeschool my youngest two - girls - but I still do emergency secondary teaching at a Christian school, and believe this book, published in 2017, is still very relevant, practical and helpful.

Pretty useful with good tips on boundary setting with technology and building better relationships, though some of her value-based advice I disagree with.
