By several accounts, Arnab Goswami is the most criticized anchor on English TV news. The purists blame him for turning news into a circus with several people shouting in chorus night after night on his channel. But there are many young people who think Arnab ‘invented’ Television news in India. In this brilliant piece, senior journalist, TV host and well known author Vir Sanghvi tells the reader how the man who coined ‘the nation wants to know’ phrase changed English TV news; his journey from NDTV to Times Now and now to Republic; his enduring stamina to present news and take criticism. In a lengthy interview, Arnab Goswami gets candid with Vir Sanghvi and lets you into hitherto unknown aspects of his life. This piece on Arnab Goswami is part of Vir Sanghvi’s forthcoming book. The Game The People who Transformed India .
Vir Sanghvi is an Indian print and television journalist, author, columnist and talk show host. He has been a member of many professional, academic and government bodies including the National Integration Council.
A brief book but nonetheless gave a good information on how Arnab became the king among news anchors. I just loved the way he strategised and came up with so many new ideas which other channels could never think off. My respect for him increased much more after reading this book.
We all need to agree on the point that Arnab with his opinions and motor mouth can be too much to handle for any average persons sensibilities . But at this we also need to concede the point that The tamasha he created was the disruption which was needed in the English news channels. Even if it's not desirable, the format is different and unique and somehow keeps the viewer glued including those who watch so that they can disparage Arnab. All this I feel could have been discussed more in this book but was touched to a certain extent
The chapter essays well in explaining the foundation on which the persona and intellect of Arnab Goswami is built on. Vir Sanghvi is in his routine fluent and engaging style which makes putting down my Kindle difficult.
Has Arnab really transformed India? Big words! I don’t really know. But, as Vir argues successfully, Arnab has managed to struck a chord with an important section of the Indian population.
This chapter doesn’t attempt to answer some important questions. How does Arnab feel about his approach, in ethical terms, towards the journalism while focusing on keep winning the battle commercially? Could there be any furtive giveaways to read into? How does his successful resonating with his ever-growing viewers juxtapose against these viewers’ growing penchant for polemics over critical thinking? I’m sure these questions would have intrigued Vir—after all he has titled his book as ‘… People Who Transformed India’.
This write-up doesn’t enquire into these grey areas (hence, three stars).
To be fair, maybe it was meant only to be a small chapter and Vir wanted to focus only on the brighter aspects—being in sync with the theme of his forthcoming book.
The chapter complements well with a story on Arnab in The Caravan in December 2012.

Just finished this short read on my favorite journalist Arnab written by Vir Sanghavi. Its intersting to read Arnab's journey from Tomes group to his own Republic channel. He has changed the perception of looking at English news channel by his imaginative ideas and concepts. The way he took Raga intreview is aslo an interesting read. I was hoping to read a kind of autobiogarphy or biography on Arnab but this is not like that its a short read. Overall 4 stars for the book.
Am really happy that i came to know more about Arnab. He has literally changed the way a news channel works and should work. His farsightedness definitely deserves a mention. He changed the face of the reporting. Best thing is, yes, first he states his opinion and defends it with all facts. Respect to this man, Arnab!! Keep going man..!!
I admire the writer's admiration of Arnab. Overall I'd say it is a true and honest short biography but still incomplete. I think there's a lot more that could be written
As a fan my respect for him increased much more after reading the book. The way he strategiesed and come up with so many new ideas, which other channels never think off.
Author is neutral in his views, avoids controversies in his narrative. Presents making of Arnab from entry into St.Stephens to establishment of Republic.
Informative to know who wants to briefly professional path for Arnab Goswami and popular news channels. More details expected regarding the problems faced.
He is the man who brought nonsense and hate to the media. The man whose illogical logic is unprecedented and worst the every next day. What else can we expect from him other than his sycophancy.
Good Book. Arnab has gained numerous fans owing to the stand he appears to take against the forces which were hitherto considered unchallengeable. It may just be to differentiate himself in a saturated news-channel market and may not be a reflection of his own views. Whatever it is - it works. Would love to read more about this interesting human being.
