Rate this book
Isadora Mosier never fit in, and she didn’t mind. She still laughed and loved and experienced life at its fullest. But when an accident steals the use of her legs, she’s left with a half-life…until she’s given a new one, as someone else.

Professor Allon Banks is a broken Civil War veteran who never thought he could find a mind and wit to match his. As he begins to correspond with Philomena Parks, he discovers a spirit that captures his heart. Overcome with his need to see her face to face, he travels to Dry Bayou to meet his Philomena and make her his own.

Dora is shocked with Allon arrives in town, searching for the woman he’d fallen in love with on paper. What happens when he finds out the woman he’s been writing to is a cripple? What happens when Dora falls for a man who is already in love with someone else? Someone who isn’t real?

Allon is torn between his love for the spirited Philomena of his letters and his attraction to the lovely, warm Dora who seems to know more than she’s saying. When he discovers Dora is keeping secrets, Allon must decide if the woman in the letters is the same one he can’t stop thinking about.

Had a very hard time with Dora’s continuing deceit and for no believable reason. Other than that, this is another great read by a very talented author.

Whoa. This book, by far, is my favorite of the series. OMG, Dora! My heart broke for her. She was stuck in a chair and feeling awful, and it didn't help that her parents were utter assholes!

She was sweet, caring, vulnerable--and she met the perfect gentleman in Allon Banks, the war vet, who was a little broken himself. Awww, that man can melt diamonds with his sweet nature and love poetry. HE QUOTES LOVE POEMS to Dora! SWOON! The attraction between then can be felt off the pages, and the "sexual" tension is there without all the sexiness. Don't know what I mean? Pick it up and read it.

I loved seeing all my DBB ladies again--and their husbands.

I HATED the Mosier parents. From Tilly and Gaston's books, I knew they weren't good people, but Miss Winchester stepped up the evil in this book. Holy Moley, those two deserve every drop of scorn they get for what they did. And when Allon shut them up...MY GAWT that was awesome!

The epilogue gives a taste of what's to come in the next book, and I assume it has something to do with dear Becky Castle, her missing journals, and a certain wayward La Fontaine.

SQUEE! Great book! I cannot wait for the next one!

Dora and Allon

Dora was riding her horse, Cinnamon, after an argument with her parents. As she rode by the smithy there was an explosion that scared her horse and she was thrown off. Since her skirts were wrapped around her legs she couldn't get out of the way and she was trampled. Her legs were crushed and she was unable to walk. She started corresponding with a wounded soldier and they start a long distance relationship. When Allon writes and says he's coming to visit, Dora panics. Will he be disgusted and put off when he discovers that she isn't the person she's claimed to be in her letters? Will she have to put up with the emotional abuse from her selfish parents for the rest of her life? Ms. Winchester has again written a wonderful book that takes place in Dry Bayou, Texas. She really brings her characters to life and I could hardly put the book down. Enjoy!

This is going on my All Time Favorites list! You will go through so many emotions while reading this one from happy to anger to sadness and back to happy. I loved the twist with how he found out the truth and the connection they had right away. I really wanted something to happen to her parents because they are beyond horrible. They shocked me every time they were around. The ending was amazing and perfect! I was so excited to see how things turned out for them.

Dora is broken body and soul. I felt so connected to her because she was different. I hated seeing her torn down and she needed someone to pull from the dark. I almost screamed when she stood up to her parents and then was afraid of what would happen next.

Allon was pulled from his darkness and now he will return the favor. I loved him right away because he's smart, a bit sneaky, and what dreams are made of. I was not expecting what he said to her parents at all. When he went in the house I cheered.

Does & Allon fell in love through letters. But can real life match expectations?

In letters Dora can be the woman she wants to be. When Allon decides to just show up to meet the woman he has been corresponding with Dora doesn't know what to do. This is a nice romance about learning to trust herself and Allon.

Outstanding!

I am bowled over by the beauty of Allen & Dora's Happily Ever After...and by the first chapter I was rooting for them all the way! I loved that our hero & heroine were both less than perfect, but yet found perfection in each other's eyes. Dry Bayou is the kind of place I would want to live, and getting to see a slice of heaven for 2 of the dear folks we've come to meet is sweet indeed! I won't dwell on the unpleasantness of Dora & Tilly's parents, but I certainly hope we will get to see them enjoying their just desserts in the near future.
