Lance Foster is finally getting everything he ever wanted. His band, Intrigue, has the number one record in the country. Screaming fans, crowds of paparazzi, television performances, photo shoots—not to mention more than his fair share of female attention. Being a rock star definitely has its perks and Lance is determined to enjoy all of them. Willa Nathans has never fit in. Sent to a special school for the “exceedingly gifted” as a child, she spends most of her time buried in books and equations—which doesn’t exactly leave much room for a social life. But all of that ends now. Lance Foster has been her crush for years and Willa is determined, finally, to show him just how much she’s changed. There’s just one problem—Lance is her brother’s best friend and band mate. And if there’s one thing Lance knows, it’s that Willa is strictly off limits. No matter how difficult he might find it to stop thinking about her. When Lance’s ex shows up, kid in tow, he realizes that hiding his feelings for Willa from her brother is the least of his worries. Lance is good at one thing—rock and roll. How on earth is he supposed to take care of a kid? When Willa agrees to step in and help out, he knows she’s saving his ass. What he doesn’t count on is how much more complicated things can get when those pesky hidden feelings refuse to disappear…
Lance and Willa were adorable together. Although I would have liked for her to tell him she loved him too. I also loved Simon but would have liked to know what happened to his mother, where she went. Overall I enjoyed the book but the Ransom books (especially Daisy and Daltrey) still hold my heart.
Wow..................... What a start to a new series, one that I will be keeping up with. This is a spin off from the Ransom Series, as we actually meet the band Intrigue in that series, but you don't have to read that series to read this one. This book is about Lance and Willa, Lance is part of Intrigue and Willa is the little sister of another member of the band, I will say, Willa is a special person in her own right. I loved this book, I was pulled into it, although it took a couple of days for me to read that wasn't nothing to do with the book but more to do with me. You can feel the emotions from all the characters throughout the book, some of them will really pull on your heart. There are twists and turns in the book and surprises some you will actually see coming and some you won't. I laughed, I cried and I got a little frustrated, but it all worked out in the end. I have never read a book by Rachel Schurig that I haven't enjoyed and this one is no different. This book is worth the 5 stars I have given it and I highly recommend it. I am so looking forward to the next book in this series.
Thank you to Rachel Schurig for a free copy of this book for review.
I'll start off by saying that in general, contemporary romances are not my jam.
What I liked about Lance: An Intrigue Novel -
▪ I liked the dual povs; Lance and Willa's povs complimented each other ▪ It's a standalone - yes, a second Intrigue novel is being released this coming week, but I definitely felt that 'Lance' could be read as a standalone and that his and Willa's story was over ▪ Simon and Willa's, and later Simon/Willa/Lance's relationship was sweet
What I didn't like:
▪ It's very on genre - this isn't necessarily a bad thing, just not something I enjoy. I like a little bit of surprise when I'm reading and overall found Lance to be a predictable read. ▪ It was a bit clunky - the story didn't flow at times for me ▪ The side characters, namely the Ransome band members - I was so confused! There are so many of them and I haven't read their series so I was a bit 😳 when they appeared
Overall a good, quick contemporary romance and I am planning to read the next in the series.

I have been waiting for another Rachel Schrig book to come out. Once again, she does not disappoint. Willa is a super genius that has always been identified by her genius IQ. Her brother is in the bank Intrigue with Lance Foster, her long time crush. Willa decides to go out of her comfort zone at a party her brother invites her to and flirts with Lance. Lance sees Willa as off limits but as things change for him and he becomes an instant father, he starts sees Willa differently. This story is a realistic romance with relatable characters. I am looking forward to the other stories in the series about the other Intrigue bandmates and seeing how Willa and Lance's lives continue to develop. I couldn't put this book down. You'll want to read it.
The Ransom series will always be my favourite by this author, but I did enjoy this tie in. Light, entertaining, romantic and HEA. Exactly what I needed to read to relax. Having said that it is light, I do like the way that the author writes entertaining, easy to read books, but has much deeper themes underneath.
When Lance’s starts to really take off, his ex-girlfriend drops off his 6 year old son which He never knew existed. With the help of Willa, his bandmates sister, everything changes. A wonderful story.
I enjoyed learning more about Intrigue, while still seeing the Ransom characters. Of course, a happy ending, even with the complications, is what I want.
This was a re-read of this book, as I have just received the second in the series as an ARC from the author. My memory is awful as I could only remember snippets of this, and I only read it last in 2017! I do remember enjoying it back then, and I enjoyed it just as much the second time around. It was terrific getting to know Intrigue that was introduced to us in the Ransom books as their opening act. This is a stand-alone book, though, so you don’t have to have read the Ransom books. It is nice, however, that they play small cameos, so if you have read their books, it’s like having old friends visiting for a reunion. I love that Rachel does this to her books as it makes you feel like you already feel at home! This book is about ladies man Lance coming to terms with a life-changing problem and falling in love in the process. Like all of Rachel’s books, it was well-written and easy to read. I really liked Willa, and I wish I had her brain! It was a delightful book, and I’m looking forward to tucking into book two!
