Natalie Baker, a girl from rural America, has an unforgettable sexual encounter with billionaire, Tanner Clarke. The passion between them ignites a flame that can’t be put out. She discovers her dark desire – her life will never be the same.
“There was something in his face. She couldn't think the thought she grasped for. His skin was pale, and she got the impression he wasn't out in the sun much. His baby blue eyes were so bright, they appeared luminous. And his dark brown hair shimmered with auburn highlights, here under the blaring brightness of the lobby. He was just beautiful. She'd never known a man could be beautiful, but he definitely was.”
Dark Desire, 1st novella in the Touched By You series, is a romantic tale that takes place in New York. The sex scenes are graphic - includes light bdsm. The author was inspired by the endearing romance in the Twilight series. And the sexual enlightenment, and sweet romance, in the Fifty Shades Of Grey series. Touched By You is a unique love story, with full character development, and added intrigue from the billionaire’s life, that will make each book in the series hard to put down.
Emily Jane Trent is a true romantic at heart. She writes steamy romantic stories about characters you'll get to know and love. If you like a love story with sex scenes that sizzle and a story that involves you both intellectually and emotionally, you'll find her books are for you.
I rarely read novellas, liking a book to have time to develop without being rushed, but I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this one. I definitely see potential for this series. Tanner is at concert, the only place that he can let go and find escape. That's where he sees Natalie. He's had many women, more than he can count, but nothing has made him want to lose control like Natalie has. And he wants her. Whether she's ready for him or not.
There was good character development for Natalie. I really felt like I knew her and got invested into her story. She was so sweet and innocent but had some spunk. Natalie Character development for Tanner… not so good. I felt like I barely knew him. Sometimes it works in the book's/author's favor, like Søren in The Siren, but in Dark Desire, it left me confused.
He was commanding and, with every look, made it known that he was in control.
Tanner The actual story was nice and had me wanting to keep reading. I could easily get lost into the book. I even liked the writing, which only had a few mistakes here and there. There was a lot of detail, though. A lot. Maybe a little too much, for me. There were times I would just skim over a few parts because I didn’t need all the details and descriptions. However, those details did come in handy during some steamy moments. Ms. Trent really knows her stuff; I was fanning myself through the whole book.
Natalie and Tanner’s relationship is an interesting one. We don’t know much about either, and they haven’t been together long, so I’m looking forward to see where it’s headed. The have the sexual tension down pat, though. I’m looing forward to reading the other novellas!!
3.5 stars

4.5 Stars Natalie skips her prom and goes to a concert with her friends instead where she meets Tanner. After a sensual exchange, Tanner disappears. This left her heartbroken, and she cannot move past what they shared, she continues to relive their brief encounter.
Years later Natalie when she begins to live her dream of attending the New York Fashion Institute, she and Tanner cross paths once more and not by accident.
Dark Desire is the 1st novella in the Touched By You series. It's a well written; the author wasted no time in setting the love story up between Natalie and Tanner. I found that it was very similar to the Fifty Shades of Grey series. It was a short, hot and steamy story.
Overall, I loved it; there was great character development, easy to follow and captivating. Though it was WAY too short!! But, I definitely couldn't put it down! I would recommend it to anyone who has read and loved the Fifty Shades Trilogy.
Dark Desire (about 125 pgs.) is book one of eight in the serial short, Touched By You series, an Erotic Romance written by Emily Jane Trent. I read this as a R2R with Fifty Shades Support Group. As always, a special thank you to the mods and author for allowing me to participate.
2 Disheartening Stars! Fantastic Beginning But Left Me Bewildered!
The Review: I was a bit disappointed with this read. The writing was well done and flowed beautifully, the sexual encounters were hot and very steamy but the similarities between this and the Fifty’s books was just TOO closely related. I love the Fifty’s books, as my user name can confirm, and I loved the Twilight Saga, so I was anxious to read this one. Being inspired by those two phenomenal series is commendable but at the same time the story needs to have its own originality instead of just replacing names and scenery.
Natalie is an awkward, sometimes clumsy twenty two year old virgin whose naive and innocence attracts Tanner, the over protective, brooding and mysterious billionaire whose proclivities lean towards the darker side. Tanner likes to keep his personal life a secret and knowing he’s a troubled soul, he warns her to stay away. But she’s enthralled with him, so they both give into their desires and spend one beautiful night having “vanilla” sex. Natalie soon finds out her scholarship and the events in her life are all at the hands of Tanner’s controlling nature, but she just can’t stay away. Sound familiar? Even the sub-characters run similarly close to the Fifty’s books.
The Wrap Up: I like this read for its well written qualities. I wanted to like the characters and the story and I did to an extent. I also think this has the beginnings of a great series but it needs some originality and riding the coattails of another book just doesn’t sit well with me. I see a lot of potential and hopefully in the next book and the others there after, the author slides away from the same theme and develops her own voice and story.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review, so I am going to be brutally honest. There were parts of this book that I had issues with, such as the ever changing person to person perspective. One minute we are reading it from Natalie's POV, then Tanners and then on occasion Cheryl's, its just confusing, especially when these changes occur randomly throughout the chapter. I also couldn't relate to Natalie's character for about 75% of this book. I found her to be weak and suffering serious self esteem issues, such as the fact she clearly didn't feel she was worthy of Tanner! For me it was just a little too much and by the end I was screaming 'Get a Grip Girl' A little pet hate of mine is also calling a penis a 'Member', it just reminds me of some cheesy romance novel and this book was most definitely not a cheesy romance novel. In fact even though I had these issues with the book, I did in fact enjoy the story and I'm intrigued as to where Natalie and Tanner's journey will take them.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. I enjoyed reading this short story, I liked the writing style, the pace was good and it was very erotic. The problem for me was the lack of originality in the plot. I was very uncomfortable with the similarities with Fifty Shades - Billionaire control freak, obsessed with her safety, 22 yr old virgin, (plus he's angry when he discovers she's a virgin), she's clumsy but only around him, he's into bdsm, he likes to keep his sexual partners private, even her friendship support group is similar. And although the dialogue wasn't exactly the same, they were saying similar things to one another at certain points in the story - going into the bath after their first time, the washcloth....it was all just too similar for me. I know that lots of people are getting on the fifty shades bandwagon and I usually enjoy those stories when they include some of the elements that I enjoyed in Fifty Shades, but they do need to be a new story and for me this wasn't different enough. This is the start of an umpteen part series, so hopefully the story will start to diverge from Fifty Shades from this point onwards.

I normally do not like Novellas , but this was an exception to my rule. I enjoyed it, Natalie was sweet, endearing yet feisty and I am a sucker for a small town girl trying to dream/ be BIG! The first chapter grabbed me and kept me wanting to read! Great start and introduction to where this story is headed! Tanner is the typical Alpha Male with a hidden heart but as " we" girls all love , a damaged one as well. What's not to love and desirede! I have already purchase book # 2 Naked Submission and I do not purchase sequels that lightly! Worth the read!
Natalie has a night she'll never forget when she skips her prom and goes to a concert instead. But instead of it ending good, it ended with her in tears.
Years later Natalie finds herself in New York going to the school of her dreams and suddenly faced with the man who gave her the time of her life but also betrayed her. Not only that but she finds out that he can potentially end her not even begun career.
This is a good story with great character development. The story is easy to follow and enticing.
I have had this on my E-reader FOREVER!! I am glad I finally started the series but it wasn't anything truly unique that I haven't read before. I will continue the series but I hope that it gets better after this start! Decent read!
A steamy, sexy short novella. While it had some similarities to FSOG & the Crossfire series, I really did enjoy reading it.....4 Steamy Stars!
Natalie Baker decides to attend a music concert with her girlfriend instead of attending her prom. Never expecting to meet someone that makes her feel things she’s never experienced before. Tanner Clarke spots Natalie in the crowd & is drawn to her. Even though they don’t know each other, there’s undeniable attraction that pulls at them. They do have an encounter while at this concert and then when Natalie goes to let her friend know that she’s got a ride home, she goes back to find Tanner gone.
Natalie’s life goes on, but she constantly relives that moment she was with Tanner. She lives with her mom & younger sister in Oakland. Natalie’s career path is in fashion design since her mom was a seamstress & she’s found a love for it. She attends a local college for 4 years & then gets a scholarship to a school in NYC. This is a long way away from Oakland. But she knows this is what she’s always wanted to do & goes off to NY never expecting to have another chance encounter with Tanner.
Tanner Clarke is a young billionaire and heir to Clarke Luxury Brands. He is attractive, sexy and feels that he’s all wrong for Natalie. That’s why he left without a word four years ago. He’s a dominant and knows how innocent Natalie is. While he tried to fight this pull towards Natalie, he finds that he can’t.
This story flowed well and I did enjoy it’s storyline. I found it hard at times to put down and it is a nice quick read. I’m curious to see how Natalie’s pursuit in the fashion world works out and also how this relationship with Tanner will progress. Remember, I said she is innocent. She hasn’t been sexual with any man. Tanner changes that but he’s also got a kinky side that Natalie is just getting a little taste of & I believe this will open up a whole other side to her. I look forward to the next book in this series. I want to see what Natalie will do with this sexy dominant.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I wasn’t sure what to expect, as this is the first for me. I was pleasantly surprised though, and give it 4 starts.
There is a hint of Fifty Shades, mixed with the Twilight romance of two people who shouldn’t be together, but cannot seem to stay away from each other.
Natalie Baker could easily be the “girl next door”. She decides prom night isn’t for her. Instead, she heads off to a concert with a friend where she meets Tanner. The passion between the two of them is immediate, and one that neither can ignore. After an erotic exchange, Tanner disappears. Even though this left her heartbroken, Natalie can’t move past what they shared, and continues to relive their brief encounter. Then, four years later, when she begins to live her dream of attending the New York Fashion Institute, Natalie and Tanner cross paths again, and not by accident.
Unlike Fifty Shades, the feelings that Tanner has for Natalie are evident from the beginning. Yes, he is still an enigma and obsessed with making her his, but after four years of keeping his distance, he isn’t just interested in making her his sex toy.
The story is a quick read, and flowed very well. I couldn’t put it down once I started. I’m curious what Natalie will do next and how things will progress with Tanner. Overall, I really enjoyed it.
I traditionally give 3 stars for short novellas , due to the lack of character development, and quick wrap ups of story lines, but knowing this is a serial and info will be provided as needed, I’m happy with 4 stars. This was a very enjoyable story, sweet, touching, loving, obsessive, controlling and kind.
Dark Desire introduces us to Tanner and Natalie. We glean more info about Natalie (she's young, sheltered by choice, takes care of her ailing Mother, enjoys designing clothing, and spending time with her sister). Natalie, has no Father , and has had very little male contact in her life, she’s strong of will, but very naïve when it comes to relationships and what life has to offer.
Tanner on the other hand remains a bit of a enigma, and this adds a bit of mystery to the storyline.
The novella is well written, has a bit of wit, and emotes longing, desire and hope for a better future. The story is enhanced with some very tasteful sex scenes that do not dominate or hold the novella together.
The book cover was chosen well, it reminds of an old fashion porcelain doll, and fits Natalie’s description very well.
Can’t wait to read the next novella, which is already on my kindle, I had to order it before I finished this one, just so I could stay with the story
Dark Desires is the first installment to Emily Jane Trent's Touched By You Series. I haven't read the second book yet but I can say that I really like this book.
Emily Jane Trent captured my imagination as a reader with her talent to describe the character's mind bit by bit. With Natalie's first impression of the sexy Tanner Clarke and how their love evolves over time.
Dark, mysterious and romantic, this is what this book is all about. IF you like the 50 Shades of Grey installment then this book is a good catch.
Some of my favorite quotes where:
I've never forgotten you, since that night at the concert- Tanner Clarke
I seem to recall that you didn't go to prom night. You ran off to a concert. And since I usurped that night, I don't want you to regret your loss. The least I can do is to provide a proper corsage and night out. - Tanner Clarke

Tanner and Natalie have an unusual story. A random Meeting at a concert, the night she graduated from high school, leaves the two with strong feelings for each other, even if he did break her heart, leaving her to wonder what happened, and where this man went for 4 years.
"I left before you returned, before we went any further. I'm bad for you Natalie, I was then, and I am now."
I LOVED the duel POVs, even if Tanners were only small snippets, they put so much more depth and understanding into 'Dark Desires' and for that I am truly grateful!
'She had cast a spell over him'
After receiving a scholarship to NY Design Institute, they have a 'chance' encounter, that leads them back together.
Having a few beautiful days and nights together, I am very much looking forward to following their journey throughout this series.
I am very eager to find out what is in that Emerald green trunk!!

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I was quick and easy to read. For a novella I felt it did a good job providing some background and details which many novellas lack. I feel that with some more time and experience the author will be able to develop a more fluid writing style. At times it could be very terse and short. I could definitely see how the author used FSOG and twilight influences. There are a lot of parallels that are similar to FSOG but I enjoyed the story. It had some very steamy scenes and I have to say I enjoyed this quick read. I hope as the story develops in the subsequent books we will get more background information and history about Tanner
I am interested in seeing how this series plays out as it looks like a series of 8 novellas. Why make it so many? Why not write it as a novel instead of so many shorter clips.
ARR- I received this book in exchange for a review
Ok so this story starts off very HOT, a little creepy but still HOT. Older man checking out fairly younger girl and then have a brief moment in a closet then he disappears. I was hooked from page 1 and half way thru decided that I must have all the installments NOW LOL. This story does have a bit of Twilight and a bit of Fifty Shades but it has something else and I am not sure what but it has started off very very good and I can not wait for the rest.
LOL, I would recommend this to all my fellow readers who loved both books and who are looking for that little bit extra.
Awesome read and I am on to the next installment!!!
I was able to attach to the characters quickly which is always a plus. The story unfolded well; however, i missed some of the get to know you parts that you get with a full novel. I wished there had been more from his pov than a quick paragraph switch here and there. It left me hanging and wanting to delve into their lives more so I will be reading the next book.
I made my way through this "book" which is actually Pt. 1 of an endless series and doubt I'll continue. Such mimicry of FSOG with all the sappy bits of Twilight tossed in made it painful to read.. Somehow the author has made both characters unlikeable: one a ridiculously naive and childlike maiden and the other a pensive, lust-ridden, Davey-downer. Top that off with the eye-rolling, skip-hopping POV and I'm just fork-in-it DONE.
This is an awesome story! I love the way Natalie does not let Tanner's aloof manner bother her! She is delightful! Emily Jane Trent is an awesome writer and I love the beginning of this story!!! I am looking forward to the next segment!!

OMG I could not put this book down, I loved the characters and I loved loved Tanner. I felt their connection with each other, can't wait to read the series
So what we have here is 59 Shades of Grey! Seriously now, it is 50 Shades meets Gabriel’s Inferno. I’m sure there is another title I could throw in there that I haven’t read yet.
Virgin, light bdsm, super billionaire at 26, incredibly handsome, completely and obsessively in love with heroine, ow, hea. Although it’s not all in the first book but the series.
I bought this on the sykd. Not a bad read. They were likeable enough characters if a little flat due to the fact they only really had one main thought—f-ing.
It is not the most well written. Too many he/she/her/ his/they sentence openings. But the writer seems talented enough. Maybe more classes. Or an editor. Or both.
Well I only made it to the 7% mark. The writing was juvenile and amateur. The POV changed continuously, even within the same paragraph and sentence to sentence. This is nothing but really bad fan fic.
This story, the characters, and most of the events remind me of a mixed mashed story from pretty woman and Fifty Shades of Grey. I know their story goes on And it’ll be interesting to find out if anything new happens
I didn't like that the speeker voice changed from 1 person the girl, to the man and then to the author, sometimes after one phrase. The girl was silly. And the author retold the story several times.
I'm not going to rate this book because it's a DNF. I just couldn't finish it. The story was all over the place for me. I wanted to pull out my hair.
The story goes from Natalie to Tanner between paragraphs in very short chapters. I'm never sure right away who's point of view I'm reading. It starts with the Prologue. Natalie, meets Tanner, a guy she's never seen before, while attending a concert instead of going to the prom. He immediately makes her weak-in-the-knees, so she goes off to some room with him after he offers her a drink he purchased for her. Now she's never seen this guy before. My first instinct is he's drugged her drink. Didn't her mother or a teacher ever tell her to never accept a drink from a stranger and definitely not to go off to another location with someone she doesn't know? I mean, what could she have been thinking? No one this day in age could be that naive.
Cut to four years later and Natalie has a scholarship to design school in New York. She's shocked that she's been accepted since she's gone to a community college.
Of course her first full day in New York, she runs into this man she hasn't been able to get out of her mind since the night of the concert. Now let me back up a moment. She's picked up from the airport by her friend from home, Ellis Larsen, but then I never see or hear of him again after he drops her off at the place where she will be renting a room. An amazing place, which happens to be the home of a former famous supermodel, Cheryl Easton, and guest instructor at the design school. Natalie questions herself as to why this woman would take on a a border, but never verbalizes it. Going back to her running into Tanner. Natalie runs into him at a shop that Cheryl suggested she go. Once she's talking to him, she never asks him what happened four years ago. She's not even sure he recognizes her, but when he asks her to lunch, she goes. Huh?!!!!! Again with the going off with strangers?
If he didn't remember her, wouldn't she want to at least introduce herself before agreeing to go off with him again? It's not until they are at a restaurant that they even discuss remembering who each other are.
Now a few things show up later in the story and our girl Natalie seems to never suspect that Tanner has had a hand in any of it. Now since I didn't finish it, I guess she could have later, but COME ON! He just happens to be in the same industry she's striving to be a part of. She becomes immediate friends with her much older roommate, who Tanner instructs Natalie, is the only person she can discuss their relationship with? And why is that? And why doesn't Natalie ask any questions of him?
There is so much more that just makes no sense to me. I just can't do this to the author. I can't say everything about this story that seemed rushed or didn't make any sense because I'm not finishing it. But I can say that I'm sad. I really hate doing this to someone's very hard work.
I feel like I'm reading something else since other reviews have been so much better. But I just can't do it. I can generally read quite quickly and I can honestly say it's taken me way too long to get through half of this book. I can't give it more time.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book was provided as an ARC in exchange for an honest review3 stars
So this book was supposed to touch on domination/submission but it definitely missed the bar on it.
This is the first book that I've read by this author, and while I was getting used to the writing style (which wasn't bad), I did have problems with the believably, character development, and just the overall interest.
Natalie Baker is this young girl from rural America who happens upon this major heartthrob while she’s at a concert. There’s an immediate reaction between Natalie and heartthrob, Tanner Clarke. They share a very random intimate moment and then Tanner disappears.
It’s four years later, Natalie still maintains her innocence and has been pining away for the hunk that got away. She has graduated from school and preparing for designers school. When she arrives to New York it seems all of her dreams are fallen into place. First, she stays with an ex supermodel who’s as sweet as pie. Second, she’s ready to take on the world and all of its fashion. And lastly, she stumbles into her dream man, Tanner. She can’t believe the odds of meeting him in the store or of him remembering her after all this time.
Things move fairly quickly once Tanner and Natalie go out on their first date. Histories are shared, feelings are put on the table, and intentions are made. It’s clear that Tanner wants Natalie, he’s been very direct from the beginning, but Natalie quickly finds that she’s out of her element with this man and that she might be too inadequate for him and his circle. As Natalie comes to grips with Tanner and his unique acquired tastes, she begins evaluating if changing who she is to fit what Tanner wants/needs, is possible.
The Best Thing: I like how Natalie actually had an interesting career in the making and not the usual (temp., assistant, etc.)
The Worst Thing: Ugh. What wasn't disturbing about this book? Most important…It’s a freaking serial series.
Natalie meets this random guy by accident at a concert and then proceeds to engage in some pretty naughty activity with plans to leave with him, all while she’s under age and innocent. WTF...really!
Tanner is introduced as this mysterious attractive guy with ‘panty-dropping’ power. He sees what he wants and then goes after it. But my problem with this is I can’t figure out if he’s just mysterious and deep or if at any minute he’s going to expose himself as some type of supernatural power. (Based off of the way he acted when he first saw Natalie). His personality seems more weird than anything, almost too mysterious.
Overall the characters are weak and somewhat irritating. The story line was pretty decent but I can’t make up my mind if it’s enough to hold my attention for the rest of the books in the series.
Lastly, the book reads as an intro to dominance/submission, but if a reader is looking to gain a true understanding of that lifestyle this is not the book for you. A lot of what happens in book one when touching on the dominant/submissive relationship seemed like fluff.
