A good bit of the information I knew already from different places, but there was quite a bit didn't, more on after the White House, but even during it. Interesting read. {not out on goodreads yet but soonish probably}

One of the things I enjoy most about these encapsulated histories of prominent people is that someone's whole life is available in one place.  Although alive during Kennedy's era, life happened and I wasn't particularly aware of the miscarriages Mrs. Kennedy endured.  I didn't realize that the death of Patrick occurred so close to the death of Jack Kennedy; what a pair of tragedies to endure.

It was interesting to learn that Jackie attached the phrase of 'Camelot' to the administration of her husband, forever tying the two together.  She was able to redefine her husband's presidency in terms of 'what might have been' instead of what it really was -- essentially, a not very effective era. (Perhaps I'm being harsh but I'm thinking of the Bay of Pigs fiasco and the Vietnam War that Kennedy increased our involvement in during his tenure.  He did have some success, namely getting the Russian missiles out of Cuba.)

I would have appreciated some photos (no, not the pink dress and pill hat, that's forever etched in my mind & it's on the cover of this book).  But the jewelry she valued would have been nice.  I would have liked to have seen the White House rooms before and after Mrs. Kennedy did the renovations. I did learn that Mrs. Kennedy was adroit in getting groups together to get the money she needed to do the changes.  This book shows just how sharp a politician she was in her own right.

The woman behind the American Camelot

Americans have always been fascinated by royalty. Those in the Northern part of our continent, specifically the US, even more so. Jackie gets to be admired for her beauty and fabulous sense of fashion with her wit and intelligence casually overlooked. This is a huge mistake since to understand this era, we have to look at all the players. In this case, to understand the American myth of Camelot, we have to look at the woman who orchestrated. This is not only a good intro into JFK's wife, but also in depth look behind the personal and political aspects of Jackie Kennedy.

I decided to read this now because I had recently finished reading Ann Mah’s novel Jacqueline in Paris and wanted to learn more about Jackie after she left school in Paris. This is a quick biography of Jackie that answered questions about her life during, and post, White House and touched on The Camelot Curse. This isn’t a long biography but instead is one that could easily be read on a short flight. It is interesting and has lots of information that gives us the facts without dragging us into the weeds. Worth a read for anyone who wants a concise biography of a woman who quietly supported the presidency, and the presidential hopes of her late husband's brothers.

Interesting

While limited in scope, the book was interesting. It basically hit the high points of Mrs. Kennedy's life providing enough information to provide the reader with information on all phases of her life. I doubt you'll learn anything new if you're an avid Kennedy reader, but the style was pleasant enough. There was no in depth narrative, but you're going to be given a decent overview. You can easily finish this in one sitting. A great deal of the book is on other people. It's like getting a small bonus.

The Camelot era

This is a story of Jaqueline Kennedy. The book follows her life through the early years of her life and education. When she met and married John Kennedy. Her life as First Lady, through the assassination and how she dealt with life afterwards.

The story takes you through her second marriage and the death of her second husband, her riding accident and her losing battle with cancer.

The book goes on to tell how her life made an impact. Her dedication to the preservation of history and the arts. She was a remarkable person.

The book is a quick overview of Jackie Kennedy’s life. We learn about her life and achievements but it left me wanting more. I was already familiar with much of the information in the book and was hoping for more insight about her as a person. On the other hand, maybe the authors intent was to just give us an overview.

The book finished a little over halfway through and it’s a short book! The rest of the book comprised of previews of the authors other books on World War II, Winston Churchill and President Franklin Roosevelt.

This was another fascinating book about Jackie Kennedy. It talked about her child hood and her life as a first lady. She was a very educated woman and well rounded, She knew many languages and also a hard worker. She was active in her husbands political life and more so when he became president. She was also a fantastic mother. She went through some miscarriages and some stillbirths. But had two kids that she adored. It gave some insight on her marriage to Onassis . Also about the Kennedy curse. Overall it was a quick read and I am always happy to read a book about the Kennedy's .

Camelot

A fair bit of the biography of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis is steeped in legend - and while this short biography pulls back some of the legend, much of it remains. About 75% of the book covers her life from birth to the death of John Kennedy. You’ll get a short overview of her life. I would have liked to see more on the last 20 years of her life - but if you’re looking for a brief introduction to her life, this book will provide it.

Disappointed

I was disappointed. Captivating History books have become one of my favorite sources for brief Introductions to important people and events, this one read like a UK tabloid and used terminology in congruent to US governing. This series was clearly written by A UK company but gunslinger editing for a topic heavily related to countries outside the UK should undergo scrutiny from someone from that country or seriously familiar with it.

This was a nice overview of the life of Jackie Kennedy Onassis, although I would have liked to have learned more about her career exploration and work prior to her marriage to John F. Kennedy. I know that she had a career in her own right in the book world in the latter part of her life and this was just touch on in this book.

Interesting

A short but very readable biography of an intriguing woman. It appears she was very much her own person and not an addendum to the President. She also helped to bring about very different views of the role of a Presidential spouse than the traditional ones. A remarkable woman, reading a full geography of her should be fascinating.

Solid writing for what it was. It hit the highlights all the way through her life in a very short retelling of her life. If you’re expecting a focus on a certain time period of her life or a deeper look into scandals this is not for you. But this a very clean professional overview of her life and accomplishments accomplished in less than 2 hours of reading or listening.

Good Read for Me

I enjoyed the content. I was a little bummed the subject matter only took up half the book, and the other half were previews of a few more books. So I rated 3 stars.

Quick, interesting read about Jackie Kennedy

Quick, interesting read on the numerous accomplishments of Jackie Kennedy. Jackie's numerous accomplishments often get lost amongst the reported scandals and I enjoyed learning about them.

A learning experience!

Enjoyable reading exercise. So much has been written about the former First Lady, and I suppose much more will be written about her in the years to come. This book is worth reading.

Boring. One word says it all.

I was bored. It did not hold my interest. It often skipped ahead then back. Than forward again. She is one of my favorite first ladies. She was proud, strong and loving gentle mother.

Very interesting reading as I was very young or not here when this all happened.
The name Jacqueline Kennedy seems to have become synonymous with wealth, fashion and politics.
It was a good read to get the basics of who she was.

Quick read

- Interesting short and snappy insight into the life and times of Jackie and her extended family.

Nothing particularly juicy revealed, but quite a good refresher of a book.

A very quick read. She endured a lot while first lady. Can't imagine loosing a husband like she did. She loved her children and her books. She was a fashionista before there was even that term.

I was a young child when the Kennedys were in the White House, so I remember very little about that part and some things about her later life when married to Aristotle Onassis. This book did a great job of covering her many accomplishments and the losses that she endured, and putting it into a shorter story. It filled me in on a lot of things that I previously hadn't known about her and was an interesting read from start to finish.
