Ryle isn’t the settling down type. She’s a private security agent and lives for the thrill of the job. Being charged with handling Zhara’s security is no big deal. Ryle wants her, but can’t give Zhara anything real.

Zhara needs more than a fling, but as danger draws nearer the passion between Zhara and Ryle explodes creating a heat wave that might destroy them before any killer gets a chance.

This is the second book I’ve read in the series, book 1 being the first. Can Zhara’s Fire be read as a standalone? I do believe so. From what I could garner, the main characters are new to the series, and the author does a great job of catching readers up with the world they live in.

So why didn’t I read books 2 and 3? In all honesty, the ‘stamen’ aspect of book 1 through me for a loop. I picked up this book figuring I was more worldly, no pun intended, and knew what to expect on that front, so could roll with it. Wrong. In short, the sex in this story did not work for me. The power exchange was off, dictated by hierarchy more so than reciprocal, and the constant being pounded by a stamen (female penis), and having to wear a condom to prevent pregnancy, was jarring in a so-called lesbian novel.

Aside from the sex scenes, which are plentiful, there’s a lot to like about this story. It’s told in the third person and from three point-of-views. The plot is mysterious, suspenseful and at times, dark. The world of bat-shifters, bee-shifters, witches, and more is not an easy one to reside in. People, or should I say shifters, die. The darker side of this story is what kept me engaged.

I think this is a story readers need to experience for themselves, so I urge anyone who is the slightest bit intrigued by the blurb to give it a go.

the best one of the bunch…

So far. This installment seems to have more substance. The two mc’s were better suited for each other. Their love and falling in love seemed more real. I liked the bickering and back and forth. Zhara kept Ryle on her toes and didn’t take no for an answer. It was angst filled but you knew the love was going to be strong. This is the only type of mate that could even come close to taming Ryle. Ryle was ruthless but Zhara was even more combative. She claimed the woman she wanted from the moment Ryle walked in her office. It was a fine deal. Only Ryle didn’t know it yet.

I liked getting another glimpse of Kensal. She was the third person I ran into from this author. It was the love affair of her and Fallina. I enjoyed it immensely. I liked seeing her brute strength and shrewdness still alive and well. I liked how the others talked about her.

Jeri bothered me. What happened should have never happened. She should have known better than that. But I guess this opens up the plot line for the next book. Last emotion, I liked seeing/reading Cassia, Sapphire, Ruby, Jase, Kerra, Azure and others from the previous books mentioned and having a part in this one.
