Allyssa is a young college student living her life to please her upper-crust family who want her to take business courses, join her father’s business, and marry the “right” man. Allyssa loves animals and yearns to take courses that speak to her heart, but her family are deaf to her pleas and she is unable or unwilling to stand up to them.

Fiona is an older, more established woman; a veterinarian working towards the goal of starting her own large animal practice. When a young woman arrives on her doorstep one night carrying a dog she may have fatally injured with her car, Fiona is thrown for a loop.

Vetted—a life that neither woman anticipated, but each learns they want desperately.

Will their families, the fates, and rustlers finally bring these women to their knees? The only way they can survive is to stand strong together, but are they both ready to fight for what they want? Only time will tell….

Vetted is a colorful take on new love. It’s a bouquet of fresh wildflowers; it’s holding the door open for your partner; it’s about the gentle touches and late night talks that leave you giddy. It’s the tackling of the ups and downs of everyday life together as a committed couple.

The story begins in modern day Denver but it may as well be a scene out of a 50’s or 60’s tv show. Allyssa is a new college student, studying business to help her father in his insurance brokerage. However, her education is not a segues into a fast moving enterprise. This is meant to be a temporary solution with the main goal of finding her a well-to-do husband, preferably one of the wealthy sons of the family’s country club cohorts. Allyssa’s parents and her older sister control what she wears, her choice of friends, hobbies, college major, every detail. There’s no room for her own voice until a single incident alters her path forever.

Enter the handsome but older Dr. Fiona Herriot. After what feels like a brief but still appropriate courtship, Fe proposes to Allyssa. Whether it’s the opportunity to go into a world that isn’t dictated by her family or whether it’s her affection for Fiona, Allyssa decidedly becomes Mrs. Herriot.

Together, they embark on a journey to the big country of Oregon where they open a veterinary practice. There are the trials and tribulations of a new marriage as well as learning to live in a rustic environment, far from city conveniences. There’s also a bit of danger and action. Finally, as their relationship deepens, so does their physical intimacy. Both characters evolve nicely but it’s Allyssa who grows into her adult skin.

Fast moving and unabashedly old fashioned like a steamy Lesfic version of a Hallmark movie.

“Vetted” was very enjoyable. I liked both MCs very much, the narration was terrific - very enthusiastic and high-energy!

University freshman MC Allyssa is from a rich family; her parents and older sister are pretentious and domineering, and her brother-one-law and his friends are pompous A-holes. It was difficult at times understanding how Allyssa put up with a life she hated. I admired her for not wanting or accepting the sorority, country club investment banker life that was mapped out for her. She found a few ways to make her own choices, a class here, a job there…all of which annoyed her family.

Allyssa meets MC Fiona (Faye) after accidentally hitting a dog that ran out in front of her car. Faye had her own difficult family life. After her father remarried, her step-mother preferred her children and the children from the second marriage to Faye, and Faye went to live with her grandparents.

Faye is attracted to Allyssa, but gets no reciprocal vibes. Allyssa knows she doesn’t like boys doing anymore than kissing her, but hasn’t ever considered women as an alternative. But our MCs become great friends despite their 10year or so age-gap, and when tragedy strikes and Faye must leave Denver for Oregon, Allyssa can’t imagine losing her best friend. So, naturally, Faye suggests they marry and become partners in a large animal veterinary practice. Stunned to find Faye “likes” her, Allyssa accepts on the spot. Errr, yeah…that part of the story sounded just a little forced to move the plot along.

I enjoyed the humor and interactions of Faye and Allyssa as they told Allyssa’s family, as they drove to Oregon and as the navigated their new relationship. Faye is shocked and excited to learn Allyssa is a virgin who has never even masturbated. Yet, for her part, Allyssa is no pillow princess. When Faye is careful to not pressure her to, err…perform, Allyssa admits that “I kinda want to!”

There are lots of details provided as they change Allyssa’s name, open bank accounts, get electric power, telephone service etc etc at their Oregon property. It’s enjoyable to spend time with them as they slow burn their way into romance and love.

The small town includes nice people and homophobes, and there are several adventurous moments with armed rustlers.

One amusing thing is the frequent use of phrases such as “the older woman”, “the younger woman”, “the blonde woman”, “the brunette woman”, “the taller woman”, and “the shorter woman”. It really reminded me of “The Protecter of the Realm” by Gun Brooke, where similar phrases frequently made me laugh.

I really enjoyed “Vetted”. There are sequels and prequels available. Highly recommended with 5* for the story, the characters and the narration!

An utterly compelling story!

Allyssa always wondered what was wrong with her. Her life was boring and every day was the same. Her family were all snobs. They took every opportunity to insult her and bossing her around. A shepherd safed her life and introduced her to an easygoing wonderful woman. They became fast friends. A deadly accident abruptly changed her life. This tragedy gave Allyssa the opportunity to pursue her dream but she is unsure how to react to her, unsure what the future holds for either of them. It was a rocky road. Weird things happened and the situation became scary and dangerous. This story has all the ingredients for a perfect read. A romantic story that make you smile and long for your own country escape. A warm, compelling story with an idyllic setting. I really loved it.

I got about 30% through this book before I gave up the read. The relationship between the main characters was kind of creepy. Alyssa is a VERY young and naive 20 year old. Fiona is allegedly her best friend but there is little evidence of this based on their interactions in the book. Suddenly, Fiona asks Alyssa to marry her and move to Oregon and she accepts. They've never kissed or said I love you or anything. Alyssa has never even been outside the city of Denver. She's chronologically 20 but her persona comes across as about 15. It just felt weird to me and I couldn't get past it. Others may enjoy this but it wasn't for me.

Really enjoyed this book, couldn't put it down and read it in one night.

I could relate to Alyssa on so many levels and wished so many times growing up that I had the nerve to stand up to my family in the way that she did.

No idea what I'm talking about, well then you're just going to need to read the book for yourself!

Fiona reminds me of the vet's I worked for whilst studying in the UK, strong, independent, determined and workaholics!

If you enjoy reading about strong female characters who overcome various obstacles and adversities thrown their way then this is definitely the book for you.

The characters are well developed, the storyline flows naturally with no unnecessary sex scenes, there's romance and intimacy as needed but not heaped on as is the case with some f/f books these days. There's plenty of drama and gun toting city girls turned country vet / cow girl to keep you reading all night as I did.

I'm hoping there is a follow on book from this one!

What the hell

I have a weakness for lesbian books with age gap relationship but good god, this was a disaster. All the characters, especially the family of Alyssa, are underdeveloped, one dimensional caricatures. At first I thought the book was set in 90s with the behaviour, the views and technological advancement of the characters. The plot is stilted and chopped, it feels like it's all action and no reaction, some sentences feel like they stop in the middle. But my breaking point was definitely when the older woman asked a 19yo girl; who she never dated, never kissed, didn't even know if she's gay or interested for that matter; she asked her to marry her. It was creepy at best, but when you take into consideration that the woman asked her only to then take her away to another state? That's honestly terrifying.

I enjoyed the book but I have to say the story is definitely different than what I'm used to. Much of the book was hard to believe but I still found it interesting. The two main characters start out as friends but the way it progresses is very strange. I could easily see a building romance between Alyssa and Fiona but when Fiona delivers her proposition to Fiona I was a bit shocked. Even more so when Fiona readily agreed. The relationship they build from that point on is charming and a little more believable. Then at one point it seems to turn into the wild wild west and again I have a hard time conceiving it as reality. Even though the story left me a little perplexed at times it was still an entertaining read. I developed a true interest in Fiona and Alyssa's life, enough that I'll definitely read the next book in the series.

I adored this lovely story about two resilient women who went through so many difficult circumstances together. I just love the way this story was laid out because the road to love and understanding never ran smoothly and I enjoyed the realistic situations Allyssa and Fiona faced because it added depth to the story.

I really enjoyed Vetted, a book that introduces 2 strong female characters. Their relationship begins with a solid friendship that turns into a tender love. Alyssa and Fiona have to overcome difficult events, throughout the book, which makes a breathtaking story full of twists and turns. This book is very refreshing, well written with deep and interesting characters. I highly recommend this book!

Vetted by K'Anne Meinel was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review

Vetted is a 'coming-of-age' novel written in the third person, and set in two main locations in modern America, although there s a definite Karawak 'Road' feeling about the story as the main characters migrate from Denver to Oregon to start a new life.

From the beginning of the book, we meet Allyssa, a twenty-year-old younger of two sisters. Despite the fact that her elder sister has already married and left home, she still feels brow-beaten by her, and by her parents who are of the domineering kind.

Allyssa feels that she can't do anything right, no matter how hard she tries, and she does put in a lot of effort bouncing from job to job to help support herself while at university.

Driving one day to help burn off the frustration caused by yet another conflict with her parents, she hits a dog and takes it to the nearest veterinary surgeon for treatment. This incident is to make fundamental changes to her life, eventually falling for and marrying the vet.

This has further knock-on effects, which lead to Allyssa learning how to shake of the shackles of her previous family life and learning how to play an adult role in the world.

I thought that the cover and title of Vetted are completely appropriate to the story, and it is well-edited; being easily the most professionally put together Indie novel that I have ever read. I also learned a lot from it. I learned that middle-class Americans can also be cold-hearted parents, like their British counterparts, and I learned more about inter-female relationships - to name but two aspects of the book.

I enjoyed Vetted by K'Anne Meinel and recommend it without reservation. Well done, Miss Meinel, full marks.

I really enjoy reading about strong women! Even though Alyssa has had a tough time being heard, she finds a friend in Fiona, who helps her grow stronger! Fiona is a veterinarian who dreams of starting her own business and when the opportunity arises she goes for it! She and Alyssa head out for the new adventure. Heartache and love are found along the way. I love animals and there are lots of them in this story. It's empowering to read a story about two independent women in a loving relationship!
There were some minor editing issues, nothing too bad. And I found all the traveling and adventures these two women had, entertaining. I look forward to reading more stories by K'Anne.

Vetted.......and not found wanting.

This is a well written tale about finding love. The characters are well developed, and the storyline flows from the pages. If you are looking for a feel-good tale of lesbian love with a little adventure this book has it. This is #3 of a four book series about a pioneering family in Oregon, this book is about the great granddaughter of the original settlers. Enjoy Meinel’s series

3 stars. Very well written and I did like the characters Allyssa and Fiona and their romance was so good. I liked that this was just a slice of life type of story and I was hoping it would give me Jericho vibes but it didn’t. This wasn’t always the most interesting read. It was incredibly dry and dull at parts but again the romance was great and was the only thing keeping me reading. Not bad but the reviews for the books after this one are very promising so I’m excited to continue on.

DNF at 47%

I love age gap relationships more than anything in the word but this one just hit all the wrong notes for me. I can't feel the genuine romantic connection between the two leads. They were good friends, that's it. And the shot gun wedding felt so forced and quite honestly, uncomfortable. I was so excited to read this but I was left really disappointed.

Not my kind of book because I don't like two women together. I had trouble following along because of it and the typos and errors. I was given a review copy by your new books and voluntarily review it.

A strong start to a good series

So far, so good. This book is definitely different than so many of the genre. Alyssa's family are difficult pills to swallow! And Fiona's stepmother is a #%*!

Who would of thought that a girl, who could not stand up to her parents and sister, stood up to criminals? This story is really good. Narration is great as well. I really liked it!!!
