A Lion's Pride #6

When a Lioness Pounces

Rate this book
Listening Length: 5 hrs and 6 mins

There's a new guy in town, a mysterious and domineering man with secrets.

I like secrets. Reba especially loves swatting at them until they spill their guts--sometimes quite literally.

But Gaston isn't swayed by her sensual allure.

LIE.

This slick club owner is very much intrigued by the cocoa-skinned beauty, but he doesn't dare show too much interest lest his enemies notice.

As if Reba cares about danger. This lioness thrives on action and a bit of violence, and she knows how to do it with class. She's ready to strap on her heels, gloss her lips, and go to battle.

Watch out because, once she's got you in her sights, she's not afraid to pounce.

When a Lioness Pounces by Eve Langlais

Book 6 of the Lion’s Pride series. Can be read as a stand-alone. Paranormal shifter romance on the erotic end of the spectrum.

Gotta love the confidence of the average lioness. Arrogance even? Sure. Only because they are awesome. At least in their own minds.
Humor, hot and heavy sex scenes and the couple solves whatever little mystery there was that was their mission. Done.
Entertaining.

I listened to the audio version and have a paperback as well.

When a Lioness Pounces is another fantastic entry into the Lion’s Pride Series. Much like the other books in this series, Reba is a force to be reckoned with. She is confident, strong, stubborn, unapologetic and hilarious. This story continues on with Gaston, who we met in the previous book, and he is an awesome alpha male. He’s not a shifter, but he’s able to keep up with Reba and her crew with abilities that excite her and mean she has bragging rights to keep her fellow lioness’ jealous.

Fun, exciting, sexy and hilarious, this is another winner for Eve! Recommended!

Where do I sign up?

I wanna be part of this Pride!! Eve Langlais never fails to entertain with each work of art she writes. And When A Lioness Pounces definitely entertains with humor, giggles, and a kick butt romance. Reba knows what...make that WHO... she wants and lets nothing stand in her way of getting her dark hero. If you haven't read the first 5 books in this series, do so without delay.

Gaston's answers to the questions Reba has are entertaining, "...he grinned. A wicked grin. A totally evil, evil grin. “I love wood. Why, I’m sporting wood right now. Would you care to see?” Gaston knows how to compliment a woman, “how did I ever think you were a lady?” His fingers brushed her cheek. “You’re a effing queen.” I can't wait for the next book in this series I love these crazy lions.

If you love Eve Langlais like I do then this book doesn't disappoint. Once again a strong female lead with a sassy mouth. A male lead that is strong and holds his own with his love interest. The pride females entertain with their no holds barred wackiness and violent tendencies. A snooty uptight Wampire, yes Wampire no misspelling here, balances out the craziness of the characters. I can't wait to read his uptight story. As usual I wish the book was longer because the author always makes me smile and laugh while reading her books. I highly recommend this read!

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy:

The A Lion’s Pride series has been consistently excellent. Each book introduced fun new characters and situations for them to tackle. WHEN A LIONESS POUNCES is no different, introducing cool new mythology and keeping up with the unstoppable group of lionesses we’ve learned to love since the first book.

Gaston was introduced as the owner of a nightclub and the leader of a group of vampire/gargoyle creatures in the previous book, WHEN A LIONESS SNARLS. He’s aloof, a bit snobby, and a total mystery to the lion pride. Reba is sent to find out what exactly he is. She learns that he doesn’t smell like the rest of the vampire/gargoyle creatures, and has powers that the shifters can’t explain.

As the lionesses investigate missing bodies in the city morgues, Reba’s path keeps crossing with Gaston. In part to annoy him, in part because she loves how he smells, Reba decides to stick close to him to figure out once and for all who - or what - he is.

With a fun lion and mouse chase and mad night-time cemetery fights, WHEN A LIONESS POUNCES is sexy and funny, balancing a very character driven plot with an expanding universe that leaves lots of room for future titles in the series.

So I really enjoyed this one, it was full of a heap of new stuff and while I don't find the heroines in any of these exactly 'mature' they do kinda grow on you and it's just a whole lot less serious than I'd usually read which is exactly what I like about them. There's serious stuff going on, but it's not the end of the world. Sometimes they make dumb decisions, sometimes they pay off. Everything's humorous (like all the other Langlais books I've read) and they never feel exactly the same as the others. Each person has different positives/negatives about them and while they all have the same kind of attitude (bubbly, possessive, smartass) they all feel like sisters not twins. Same went for the males. No one felt like a complete carbon copy, saying and doing the same things & that's what I like so much.

i really like this spin on this series. Lioness in all their prime (not that not a rerm for them) glory, attitude..... Baddass and personality.
This girl, the main character, was a shinny girl and also gave a priority to back up clothes to the next level. She wasn't all that fashionista because the all the female characters got taste but this girl was a bit different and got also a role in the prime, really working for the king. Sure they all did work but some were more side job or being there to secure the prime.
What I like about her, was also her fun, her twist.... I think every lioness are similar but yet different. Out of all the lioness books, I liked this one more than the others. It started differently, a different pursue and it can kind of did a flip of 180. And it end with a massive regroup of baddasses.

This one wasn't to my liking as much as the previous books in the series unfortunately. The lionesses are becoming so similar that when they talk to each other its hard to know who is who as they all sound the same, same clichéd lines unfortunately.
Reba was super cocky (as they all seem to be) and I couldn't really like her all that much.
Gaston was very proper but still held his own with Reba.
This one had a lot of different paranormal beings, ghouls, whampyres (spelling???) necromancers, zombies etc, not my usual choice when choosing a shifter book, bit disappointing that they are heading that way as I wont be interested in reading any more.
Didn't find this one humorous at all as I have with previous books and the whole super hero spin, with outfits, is so cheesy.
Overall not a bad book, just not to my tastes and I wont be continuing with this series.

Ok....I liked the crazy lioness Reba but the hero Gaston is a necromancer, which to me is a bit yuck (he likes dead things!) Also, his name just keeps reminding me of Beauty and the Beast (Reba had the same issue and started calling him Tony.. hehehe.) I just keep remembering Hugh Jackman playing that same role in the Australian Musical version (pre-Hollywood and Wolverine) and thinking he was so cute at the time :)

Another fun installment in Eve Langlais’ A Lion’s Pride series. This series has mostly focused on shifters, though there have been other supernatural creatures in it. In this one, we have Gaston Charlemagne. He is a local club owner, but the pride really doesn’t know what he is or what he can do. Reba, one of the pride’s lionesses, goes to spend some time at the club to try and figure him out.

Reba is a fun and strong female lead to this story. She is sassy and has no shame. This is mostly true for all the female leads of this series, but Reba is still one of my favorites. I just love the lines that she has.

This book is full of romance, action and fight scenes that include everything from zombies, gholem and an evil ex-fiancee. And since this is an Eve Langlais book, you know it is full of laughs too. No Eve book is complete without them.

As per my usual with an Eve Langlais book, the hardest part of writing the review is narrowing down the quotes from the book that I want to use. There are just so many fun ones.

While many cultures depicted the male as the defender and warrior, lions were different. With them, the females took the active role, hunting and protecting. A lion was a fierce thing, but also a bit lazy. He roused himself for only the big issues. Whereas the lionesses, they made small issues into big issues just for the hell of it. Or so Gaston had learned recently when he investigated them.

The mission came with a few rules from Arik—number one was don’t start any fights. Number two was the same as number one. And number three was no sex with Charlemagne or his staff. Unless necessary—she added that last part since Arik surely forgot. Reba would take one for the team if needed.

Their resident geek, Melly—who religiously watched every Walking Dead episode—hopped up and clapped her hands excitedly.
“OHMYGODTHEZOMBIEAPOCALYPSEISHERE. I’m ready for you, Daryl.” She ran out of the restaurant shrieking in excitement, probably off to get dressed in her zombie fighting gear.

* You need to read the previous entry to fully understand the story and the motivations and mysteries of some characters.

Gaston own a nightclub in Lion territory and even though he wants as little to do with them as possible, he has to comply with Lion king Arik. When Arik sends over the cutest liaison ever, the mocha skinned lioness Reba, Gaston knows deep down his life has changed forever. And when an enemy from his past comes knocking, he needs the support of the lions even more and all his secrets threaten to come out in the open.

Pro's:
+ Gaston is such a mysterious character! The author kept us in the dark for 2 books before revealing Gaston's true nature and the secret is weel worth the read. Without spoilers, the author choose for an alternative route for this type of character and I found it quite refreshing.
+ Again, the lionesses are awesome. Reba is very savage and fearless and the connection to her friends is very well written. The pride aspect is really emphasised upon in this book and I think it really shines through, as Reba is quite a dominant character in this group.

Con's:
- There is no clue to what happens to the mysterious villain after the ending of this book. I would have liked some build-up to the next book or some hint to anything after this book. Such a missed change, I think there could have been a great cliffhanger to the next book.

A really enjoyable entry in this series. After reading 6 books I am of the opinion that the books that star the lionesses are WAY more awesome than the books focussing primarily on the men of the pride. Reba is awesome and the mysteriousness of Gaston gives this book his whole own vibe. There is a tiny spoiler for the next book, which looks awesome already, but I would have liked more clarity on the evil person in this book.

If you are looking for a series or a book that is sure to make you laugh, snort and have a good time this is the one to pick up. Ms. Langlais has a way with words that is sure to entertain even the most finicky of readers. Her storyline is filled with fun even when their is danger at every turn. The characters are charming, snarky and the lioness's are crazy but they sure do know how to have a good time. Gaston has secrets he is not going to share even if the crazy lioness is set on uncovering what makes him tick. Reba likes a challenge and she has no problem making Gaston her new favorite toy. Superhero costumes, bedazzled bats and the zombie apocalypse add spice to an already unusual courting. Gaston and Reba play a sensual game of cat and mouse keeping the sparks flying as they work to find a common enemy. This storyline is easy to read, filled with fun and laughter leaving you wanting more even when you know you reached the end. I think you can read this as a stand alone however, it is much more fun if you start from book one and get a feel for all the characters.

Verry Good!

I was trying to put a purr in the title as this book has a lot of lioness' fighting but not with each other. The lioness' have some fight scenes against ghouls, a golem, some zombies & an evil ex-fiancee that is also a necromancer. She doesn't like the fact that Gaston or aka Tony as Reba calls him because she doesn't want to start singing the "Gaston" song that's in "Beauty & The Beast".

In this book you'll find out what Gaston truly is (& I was surprised as I would have never guessed; my guesses were either a vampire, a sorcerer or a a dragon), you'll read that Reba gets her man, you'll read about how the guy's that have mates got arrested for driving too fast (but that Reba get away with doing that; but, I don't think that I would ever want to get in a car with anyone who drives like her) & reckless endangerment, you'll read about ghouls, zombies, etc., you'll read some fight scenes & this book also has some sex scenes. But, to me this was just a very good book.

It will be interesting though to read the next book in this series.

Mysterious club owner Gaston Charlemagne has met his match in Reba, the sassy lioness who likes the pounce. Wait. back up. All the lionesses in Arik's pride are sassy and bold, so Reba's sassiness shouldn't come as a surprise to ANYONE. Yet, Gaston is. Wait again. Maybe he's not surprised by it so much as intrigued.

And when a mysterious guy with a couple of tricks up his sleeve is intrigued FUN things happen. Although, it was mostly Reba who caused the fun. Or the crazy. However you want to label it. Gaston was much more sedate before he became involved with her. Much more.

You know, I'm starting to think Reba might be a bad influence on those who want to stay low-key. On the plus side, she's more than willing to sort out whatever problems she unearths and she takes a certain amount of glee in putting the hurt on those who deserve it.

MAN, I like these shifters. And thsoe who aren't shifters, it turns out. They're fun and I appreciate fun.

Awesome book

I love this series. All of the books are hilarious to read and full of heat and irreverent humor. I really enjoyed the fact that we got introduced to lots of new creatures in this book as well as learning just what Gaston is. I won't tell because I'm not a spoilsport, but I will say that Eve Langlais gives us a new take on all of the creatures introduced in this book. Reba is so entertaining and the battle of wills that takes place between Gaston (aka Tony because the name Gaston reminds Reba of Beauty and the Beast) and Reba had me feeling the heat and laughing all at the same time. If you enjoy shifter paranormal romance books with a ton of heat and danger then this is the series for you. And even though they can be read as standalone stories, I highly recommend that you read the series in order.

I love this story. Gaston and Reba are a very comical couple. Reba is a feisty woman with a lot of witty, quick comebacks. Gaston, while confused and frustrated by her, gives as good as he gets when it comes to her sass. I really enjoyed seeing the back and forth between them. It made me laugh almost constantly. I'm looking forward to seeing what happen in the next book.

The narrator did an amazing job bringing these characters and the others in the story to life. I really like her rendition of their voices and their reactions to things. I'm really looking forward to hearing more of her work.

Laugh out loud funny. I love Reba. Reba is smart, funny, cocky and has a joie de’vivre that will make your heart sing. Reba is also very used to getting what she wants and what she wants is the enigmatic Gaston Charlemagne. This hottie has secrets upon secrets and Reba is determined to ferret them all out. That is after they take care of his crazy ex. This book is a bullet train of love, adventure and laughs.

Mystery

Reba has a mystery on her hands - the new club owner in town has her curious about what he is. Gaston is just as curious about Reba but he doesn't want her to know he's interested in her. So he visits the local pride boss Arik to get paired up to work with Reba on case that interest them both about what's going on in the city morgue. Bodies missing? Reba and her girls are just looking to have some fun.

Great fun read that was a bit different with other weird baddies being introduced.
Such a funny series with these wacky lioness’ who think danger is relaxation and extreme danger is fun.
Really interesting what Gaston turned out to be, total surprise.
Reba was just so funny to read about and her antics were hilarious especially the super hero costumes.
Loved the carry on with the crazy Vivienne.

i liked this book a lot.when i read about a domineering male a was turned off but i had nothing better to do and decided to start reading and if he became to bad and obnoxious stop. but it was perfect. Reba doesn't take him too seriously and does whatever she likes.she doesn't wait around for some male to help her.she is bad-ass and funny.this book was what i needed and i'm definitly reading the reast of the books.

I was really interested in how this new "species" would be inserted into insta love ...
But well, it turned out to be interesting ... Very dramatic with new and old love ....
Reba .. A little smug, but the whole concept of this series is that lions are very smug, so nothing unusual ...
But it's interesting to see how they put "salt on the tail" of each other ...
Interesting first "consumption" on the roof :)
Gaston ... Maybe he needed one like that!

Not my favorite in series

The rest of the series so far I would give a solid 4, but this one was a bit of a dud for me. The female lead felt a bit too trashy and obnoxious for me, and I didn't feel much of a connection between the two characters. This one had a different supernatural twist, beyond just shifters, which was okay, but didn't solve my issues with the romance and my lack of connection with the main characters.

Another Good Story!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Reba was so funny. Gaston didn’t know how to take her early on. Both playing hard to get and finally letting their guards down to fall in love. This was messy as in all the dirt that they had on themselves from all that they got involved in. Hopefully that’s the end of Vivienne. On to the next one with Stacey and Jean Francois. 😊😊😊😊💜💜💜💜🥰🥰🥰🥰

Forced to assist the lions in cleaning up their city Gaston has been ordered by the council to “play nice”. Reba is intrigued by the new stranger in town. Plus he smells yummy, purr.

In true Eve Langlais style this story is full of her humorous writing style, plenty of action and a pair of cocky main characters. I was shaking my head and giggling the entire book.
