Series Description: Safeguard Security & Investigations (SSI) is owned and operated by Townes Calvert, a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant who returned home to the States a bit more damaged than he'd care to admit. Not that anyone could tell outside of a very select group of former active duty buddies. It had taken Townes quite a while to acclimate to civilian life and he'd kept himself busy in the interim working in treacherous situations with even more dangerous friends. The final result is a close-knit unit of highly trained former military men who have the experience to protect the innocent, investigate crimes on the gritty edge, and aid local law enforcement when justice has taken a back seat to political correctness. Follow along as Kennedy Layne conveys each of their gripping stories as they work together on investigations that lead them down perilous paths of passion, intrigue, and suspense...
Kennedy Layne is a USA Today bestselling author. She draws inspiration for her romantic thrillers in part from her not-so-secret second life as a wife of a retired Marine Master Sergeant. He doubles as her critique partner, beta reader, and military consultant. Kennedy also has a deep love for cozy mysteries, thrillers, and basically any book that can keep her guessing until the very end. They live in the Midwest with their menagerie of pets. The loyal dogs and mischievous cats appreciate her writing days as much as she does, usually curled up in front of the fireplace.
Enjoyed this second chance at love and catching a killer suspense book.
This is the last in the series and you don’t need to read the others to follow along. Here after years of being away Townes and Shailyn are now coming together to get her freedom and end the terror that surrounds her life.
Townes is a really great character. He is strong, honest and loyal. The whole time away from Shailyn he was planning and getting everything ready so he can end the terror a killer has her in. She is in WITSEC but never truly feels safe. The killer is a sadistic evil man who plays a great game of cat and mouse. Only now Shailyn has been safe and he hasn’t drawn her out. Townes decides to up the anty and is now ready to not only face the woman he feels love for and shame as well but also claim her as his while ending the hunt for her torturer.
Shailyn is stronger than she thinks. She is a survivor and also stubborn. For her to survive and have a semblance of life after what she went through is admirable. She gains respect from all that know. Only her life isn’t hers yet. She has reclaimed it and really lived since her attack. Now Townes is calling a end to the game and Shailyn is struggling. Struggling with her feelings for Townes, struggling with guilt of the past, struggling with taking back her life. As Townes and his men work the case and draw the killer out, they also help Shailyn. She begins to heal and feel free. she gains strength and perspective. She lets Townes back in and the learn about one another. They also explore their feelings and attraction for each other. Townes doesn’t keep it a secret how he feels but it is shailyn who needs to figure things out and feel safe in her world once again. Townes gives this to her and more.
the cat and mouse of catching the killer is fascinating. Townes is really good at drawing the killer out and evoking his emotions. The killer is creepy and just evil. As you learn about him and who he is you will get the creeps. He is pure evil and quite smart as well. There are times you wonder if Townes can outsmart him. So many twists and turns in this cat and mouse that has you on the edge of your seat excited to see where Kennedy Layne will take you next.
A wonderful story of finding yourself and freeing yourself from fear, of taking back your life and letting love in for a second shot. A great suspense that keeps you on your toes and in the hunt for the killer. You even get his thoughts that are super creepy. A romance that helps a woman heal and get a second chance at love and life.
Shailyn Doyle has been through hell at the hands of a brilliant but insane serial killer, and Townes Calvert blames himself for letting her get taken in the first place. Townes has been searching for Shepard Moss for years to exact justice while the killer taunts the owner and employees of Safeguard Securities and Investigations. Moss will stop at nothing to get Shailyn back, even if it means he has to bend his own rules to do it. Townes and Shailyn have been apart for far too long, finally having a shot at forever, but first they'll have to survive the finale of Moss' deranged plans.
DEADLY PREMONITIONS is the 6th and final book in the Safeguard series, and it's a doozy! Moss has been a central foe in all of the books, taunting the men of SSI, and Townes specifically, and this story was a fitting end to the series. My heart broke for how broken and battered Shailyn was, and I loved seeing her break out of her shell and re-enter the land of the living when Townes comes back into her life. The whole story had me on the edge of my seat waiting for Moss' shoes to drop. I loved watching the missing pieces unfold that we didn't know about his past; they were all crraaayyyzeee!! I wish there was more sex in DEADLY PREMONITIONS, but I think it probably would've felt gratuitous in this case. I'm looking forward to more from the talented Ms. Layne!
Bottom Line: No OM/OW or sharing; condom use; no BDSM/kink; no sexual assault; violence/murder.
Moss tried for three days to kill her, before she was rescued. Even in protection, he is by killing friends she had known. Once again to leave and go to a new place. Townes didn’t come for her in Maine but as a bait to get Moss. His request is to go back to Florida with him, parents ehe hasn’t seen. He built a fortress since he last seen her, a place with a future for her. One chance he figures to correct the mistake he made, when he lost her while being hired to protect her. A chilling tense plot. The horror of a psychological killer, how could they’re even think of outwitting him. Good series, that was well written with a good closure.
I'm still relatively new to Kennedy Layne's writing and got into this series way late in the game but I had to know what would happen in this final installment. This is the one I had been waiting for since I was hooked by the alpha men that make up Safeguard Security and the women that only make them stronger.
Townes Calvert has intrigued me since I first met him. He is the man behind the missions and carries a lot of guilt on his shoulders too. Unnecessary guilt, but it's there nonetheless. And it all started with the woman he hasn't gotten out of his head or heart, Shailyn Doyle. It just so happens she is the tie to a vicious serial killer that has nothing but revenge and unfinished business on the mind.
Ugh- that man creeped me out. He was just so disgustingly evil. I could feel the fear radiating from Shaiyin. I could feel the anger pouring out of Townes. But I could also feel how much they loved each other. Despite time and life and distance, these two couldn't deny what had been there years ago was still bubbling below the surface. I LOVED how Townes proved to Shailyn what she meant to him. Not just in his words, but his actions as well.
The men and women of SSI really are a family and to see them all (woohoo- I love getting to catch up with couples from earlier books) come together to defend their own was just what I needed. To say the tension was building as the chapters went on is a vast understatement. That being said, I found the ending to the whole Moss saga, a bit anticlimactic. That's not to say it wasn't thrilling, because it totally was. I just wanted him to suffer a bit more. Overall, Deadly Premonitions was a good conclusion to a thrilling series that was just as dangerous and deadly as it was sexy. And Townes' little surprise for Shailyn at the end...just perfection.
Hold onto your hats. This is a whirlwind story that you want to be caught up in. Deadly Premonitions is the last book in the Safeguard series my Kennedy Layne. We finally get to meet Shailyn Doyle and see how Shepard Moss is drawn out of hiding by SSI. Unfortunately, Moss (the nasty serial killer) has a plan to capture Shailyn back. All of the members of the team help solve the mystery, and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you rivited. The race to freedom is on. Will Shailyn or Shepherd Moss win? It is also a beautiful second chance love story. Shailyn and Townes reconnect and learn to trust and love each other again. Shailyn is strong yet vulnerable, and she is a great addition to the women of SSI. Kennedy Layne writes wonderfully suspenseful and romantic novels. You won’t be disappointed in the story, and it naturally has a happily ever after! I am sad to see this series end, but I can’t wait for Kennedy Layne’s next series. Warning: This series may cause drowsiness because you can't put the books down!
I'm glad I caught up with this series before the last one. What a ride that was, total page turner that kept me hanging. We get to meet Shailyn Doyle but not under good circumstances. It's not that simple drawing out a serial killer. Even though the SSI team is ready and able.
Aside from the suspense, the old romance reconnects Townes Calvert. It isn't easy and shaky at first but second chance romances aren't. Relearning to trust and open up. I was excited read Townes book after learning about him throughout the series. The heroine is also a good one. Both characters are compelling and strong willed. Hard not to like.
Who will this game? It's a race to see. Will Moss succeed in his plan. Freedom is not easy after all. I was not disappointed in how it all wrapped up. I'm a new fan of Kennedy Layne's and romantic suspense is a new favorite genre. I can't wait for this author's next series!
Deadly Premonitions by Kennedy Layne is the sixth book in the Safeguard Series and the conclusion. Shailyn Doyle and Townes Calvert have something in common . Townes is hunting a serial murder and Shailyn´s past comes back to haunt her. Both have to play a game with a twisted sadistic killer. Meet the SSI team and his members in this breathtaking thriller, lean back and enjoy. Deadly Premonitions is a captivating story . The book can be read as a standalone, for better understanding I recommend to read the books in order. 1) Brutal Obsession 2) Faithful Addiction 3) Distant Illusion 4) Casual Impressions 5) Honest Intentions 6) Deadly Premonitions. I really loved the story, the writing and the characters and give 4,5 stars. Thank you, Kennedy Layne.
A pulse pounding, page turning suspenseful end to a great series. The serial killer is still on the loose and the SSI team is running out of options and new clues are down to a trickle. Will Townes and his men be able to bring him down or will the body count keep rising?
We first met Townes Calvert in Radiant Surrender pulling guard duty for CSA owner Gavin Crest. He made an impression that was unforgettable and I was beyond excited to see him get his own series.
Safeguard series is yet another must read by Kennedy Layne and Townes finally gets to tell his story. A story that will have you tearing up and biting your nails as you devour this five star read. H/h dynamic is great, supporting characters add to the story and the villain is a classic head job.
This book is the final in an amazing series! Townes is the mysterious owner who has kept his past and personal reasons for tracking Moss, the serial killer who escaped prison, hidden from his team. Moss is after the one person Townes loves more than anything and he will do anything to protect her, even bring her out of WITSEC! Shailyn has managed to survive a sadistic serial killer, leave the only man she ever loved and her family behind when she goes into WITSEC. When the US Marshals call her to the local office, the last person she thinks she will ever see is there!
Great, emotional and suspenseful story that has a wonderful ending! Loved this series, will miss all these characters:) Looking forward to more by this great author!
The final in the Safeguard series we see Shailyn Doyle reunited with Townes Calvert. Shailyn was serial killer, Shephard Moss’ only living victim and now that he has escaped prison he is determined to continue his deadly and torturous game with her. Townes is just as determined to keep Shailyn safe and keep her in his life as well. Can they find Moss before he finds Shailyn? A beautiful story of second chances and healing. Townes and Shailyn have a unique connection that not even a serial killer can break. Kennedy Layne writes awesome romance stories with a twist of suspense and mystery as well. A wonderful ending to this series!
OMG what a way to end an excellent series. Definitely a book to read with all the lights on. Moss is evil incarnate and we finally get to see inside his head. In this book we finally learn the true reason for Townes Calvert setting up SSI and meet Shailyn Doyle, the only person to servive Shepard Moss. This too good a story to give out spoilers, suffice to say the series is complete with the ending of this book. This is a series I will be revisiting. The plots in each book have been well thought out and worth reading in and order even though each has a HEA the thread is strong leading to this explosive last book. In summary I loved it!
All good things must come to an end. Deadly Premonitions finally gives us the story of Townes Calvert. In order to catch the notorious serial killer, Shephard Moss, Calvert must pull Shailyn Doyle out of WITSEC.
He gave her up once, but Calvert won't be so willing to do it again. In order to protect her, he has built his home as a protective safe house for Shailyn. Will luring Moss finally help put this nightmare to rest?
In a series of twists and turns, we learn of the history between these two characters and what they are willing to endure to have each other. As hard as it is to say goodbye to yet another set of amazing characters from Kennedy Layne, I couldn't put the book down.
Shailyn went through Hell when Moss kidnaped and tortured her. Living in WITSEC since she’s got on with her life but hasn’t been truly living it, nightmares haunt her constantly. SSI have been a step behind Moss and need to bring Shailyn out of hiding, hopefully it might make Moss become sloppy but it doing so it will also bring to the forefront what Shailyn and Calvert lost because of Moss.
The characters in this series are Strong, Determined and Singleminded in their pursuit of Justice and the need to keep their loved ones safe. They are also a bunch that doesn’t mind having a good laugh at and with each other.

Wow! What a book! This is the last book in the series and this author did it with a great book. I have loved this series from the get go and really hate for it to end...couldn’t we hire some new guys!?! We get the story of why Townes Calvert started his business and just how crazy the bad guy it. We also get a look at the survivor who got away from the crazy bad guy years ago and experience her struggle to survive. You really need to read the first 5 books and then dig into this one, you won’t regret it.
This was the final book in the series. townes and shalenes story. I couldn't wait to read this story.because it was what each book before it was tied to. The final conclusion. It was an awesome story. Just enough mystery and suspense. I was more excited about the romance aspect, but sadly I thought it was a little lacking in the romance arena. There was a deep love, but very little passion. It was still somewhat perfect.
I have been waiting for the take down of Moss from the beginning. Best laid plans and all that this book was really good. Thank you Kennedy for a wonderful series and a perfect HEA. Bravo Write on. Davia
Loved how Kennedy concluded the series. Always sad to have a series end. I will now have a book hangover. Would love to have one more book that shows where they all are a few years down the road. Thank you
I have enjoyed this series and am sorry it has come to an end. However I was not disappointed with the final story. Townes love for Shaylin was so beautiful to see. The story was emotional and suspenseful.
Great ending to a great series. Finally Townes get to his end game. The hell both he and Shailyn went through all though years. There were a few twists and turns in this last story of the series. But it was a n exciting ride.
Wow what an ending! So complicated and ingenious. I loved reading about the guys and their girls and am so happy that Towns managed to get his girl back safely. I’ll miss this series.
I typically hate cliff hangers, I was drawn so far into the story and the lives of SSI I had to find out the end. I was not disappointed or than the fact I wished to see a wedding....
I always thought there was more to Calvert and the Moss situation than what was being said – but I never expected that. What a great end to this series.
