This is another amazing book by the very talented Reina Torres.
The very last thing that Grace never wanted to do was to grow attached to all. However Travis was now looking for a beautiful new hometown. However that changed the minute Grace appeared in his life. Travis suddenly knew that home wasn’t just a place just for him. Travis's home was with Grace. Travis now just has to convince the lovely Grace that what they have together is worth hanging around for.
Meet the lovely Grace Howard. Grace was so so excited to be returning to her old childhood home that is in Grayslake, Georgia. Grace was going to visit her Aunt and Uncle. Unfortunately for Grace who was living in the hot and dry Arizona desert; along with watching her mom’s huge line of useless boyfriends that kept coming and going. Grace knew that she has always dreamed of wanting to return to the old sultry days and crazy balmy nights for one last night; before Grace then sets off to travel the world and then along the way Grace would forge her own future. Grace's future was far away from failure relationships. Grace knows that forever doesn’t exist let alone happen. Well not to Grace. For Grace living in one place for a long time would be an exercise in going insane and a lot of frustration.
Broody but sexy Travis Owen was looking for a home. While struggling with the annoying clan politics in his hometown. Tavis is now looking for somewhere to settle. While he's waiting to meet the Itan of Grayslake. Tavis sees a curvy beauty get off at the busstop towing a suitcase behind her. Travis' both sides suddenly took notice. However Travis breaks a rule. This rule has consequences and it's a price he’ll have to pay. Travis now has to decide what is more important to him! Is it Travis' instincts and needs for this woman? Or could it be that Travis had to keep his hide in place. With his alpha bear trying to come out; Travis is now finding it hard that it's too hard to deny. The dominant power in his life just might just not be the for the command of an Itan! Is it also be the command that will in his heart.

Reina gets better and better with each book. I love this book. Another 5* book.

Grace would rather be travelling the world and experiencing new things than settling down. But when she arrives in Grayslake to spend time with her Aunt and Uncle before her next big adventure, Grace finds herself the centre of attention, especially after she discovers how far the shifters in town will go to make sure she never reveals their secret. Will she end up sacrificing her chance at forever after with her Mr. Right, so she can continue to live the life she craves; or will she make things right with the man that she's falling in love with before it's too late?
Ms. Torres has produced magic with this book in the way it entertained me from start to finish due to the wonderful main and secondary characters; the compelling dialogue that had me hoping Grace would make the right decision before it was too late; and the ending that had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after, because Grace gets to have the best of both worlds -- forever happiness and continuing to be able to explore to her heart's content. The way this story started had me liking the hero immediately, as he needs the chance to be able to start over somewhere new. Will the alpha, the man they call the Itan give him the chance? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine met that had me totally hooked, as Travis knows what he wants and what he wants is Grace.
As for the dialogue, it was a delightful combination of intense moments and playful banter that had me enjoying this couple's growing relationship, even though there were moments where I wanted to shake the heroine to make her realize what a mistake she was making. When will she realize her feelings for Travis were different to anything she's ever felt before? Moreover, the heroine is strong, brave and I could understand her desire to not settle down. Since it wasn't as if her mom provided a good example when it came to love. I also liked how feisty the heroine was when it came to helping those she cared about, especially the hero when he was facing trouble with the Grayslake Enforcer, Van.
While Travis, I absolutely loved him. He's the triple D threat - dreamy, delightful and downright delicious -- when it comes to Ms. Torres descriptions of him from the heroine's point of view. He's also confident and I liked how determined he was to win the heroine over because she's his mate and there's no way he could live without her. Yet, what I liked most about Travis is the decision he made towards the end when it didn't seem like things were going to go work out for him and Grace. He's protective and doesn't want to see her hurt, even though they both know the decision she's made is the wrong one. Will Grace realize her decision is the wrong one before it's too late for her and Travis to be together?
Overall, Ms. Torres has penned another really good paranormal romance in this book where the chemistry between this pair was fantastic and had me hoping that everything would work out for the best, especially since the heroine was so stubborn when it came to the decision she had to make to help keep her off the Itan's radar. The way this story ended left me with a huge smile, because of the decision the heroine made and how she was given the chance to have the best of both worlds in finding forever after and getting to continue her exploration of the world. However, it was what happened right at the end that wrapped this story up wonderfully, as it gives Ms. Torres an opening for future books. I would recommend Beneath the Surface by Reina Torres, if you enjoy paranormal romance or books by authors Celia Kyle, T.S Joyce, Eliza Gayle and Georgette St. Clair.

I am very quickly becoming a huge fan of Shifter romances thanks to Reina Torres! Having read a previous bear-shifter romance by her, I knew I would enjoy the other-worldly aspect of the story. But how this author is able to pack so much character, plot and emotion in a novella-sized read just amazes me!
Grace Howard comes back to Grayslake (a world created by Celia Kyle in her “Grayslake” series) to help out her uncle at his diner when her aunt is ill. It is only a brief stop for Grace, however, as she is ready to embark on her travels around the world. Grace is not looking for the home surrounded by the white picket fence and 2.5 kids; she is going to be totally free of any and all encumbrances. But when she steps off that bus in Grayslake, little does she realize she just stepped into the line of sight of her “mate” Travis Owen. Both Travis and his “bear” know Grace is “The One,” his forever mate and the future mother of his cubs. How can two very different - in so many ways! - people find their way to a happily-ever-after?
With brilliantly-paced writing, Ms. Torres gives us a fully engrossing, fully developed story of how family (clans) and fate interprets love. Other characters from Ms. Kyle’s Grayslake series populate the story, truly making this Kindle World addition part of the, well, clan! I felt every smile and every growl Travis gave, while Grace was a refreshingly bold and quirky hero, with her vintage style yet jaded view of relationships. And Noah….I certainly hope Noah gets his story too. Although the book has the Shifter aspect that will be loved by readers of that genre, be assured that this novella is a great read for all lovers of well-written, emotion-filled romance!

Travis is a recent transplant to Grayslake. Grace, a human, lived in Grayslake as a child and is returning temporarily to run her aunt's cafe before going off to explore the world. When she meets Travis, sparks fly and she's interested, but Grace is avoiding long term relationships. When it's revealed that Grace knows about bear shifters, she suddenly has to either mate or die. And although Travis has indicated that she's his mate and wants a relationship with her, Grace is wary. She's not willing to trust Travis's staying power and she doesn't want to stick around Grayslake. So she agrees to a mating with her friend Noah, which would break Travis's heart. He'll have to convince her that he's serious and worth the trouble.
So this was a very well-written story. It's fully fleshed out, the characters have good chemistry and pretty well-established relationships and the angst and emotion comes across on the page. My struggle here was with the whole love triangle situation. I hate this kind of jealousy and how it broke the hero's heart...granted he was a bit intense, but this situation was the kind of angst I don't care for. Travis loves/or at least wants to mate with Grace and while she sort of feels the same way, she prefers Noah because he's less of a threat to her heart and Noah is vying for Grace (though I'm not quite sure why he seemed so opposed to Travis at first). So it's very much a triangle situation, even if Noah isn't really in love with Grace. He's still acting as a threat to Travis and Grace's HEA. And Grace actually kisses (and enjoys it) Noah, which Travis sees and this breaks Travis's heart even more. So if you like this kind of angst, I recommend this book.

An incredibly sweet romance filled with so much emotion. Two people from two different worlds find each other in a totally unexpected moment. Grace Howard returns to Grayslake, Georgia as an adult to help out her Aunt and Uncle while her Aunt is recovering from an injury. Travis Owen, formally of Arcadia, is looking for somewhere peaceful and quiet after leaving his drama filled home.
Never one to believe in love at first sight, Travis is stunned by the emotions he feels when he catches first sight of Grace. Immediately he feels she is his life mate. But he has a big job ahead of him, convincing her and trying to fit in to this new town.
Grace on the other hand has plans to see the world. This trip down memory lane with her Uncle and Aunt is only a temporary stop before she heads off to Europe. She has no plans on staying or settling down. She has feelings for Travis too, but she feels lust and passion and figures a quick fling is just what she needs before heading off to see the world. Unfortunately that isn't what happens and between an age old secret an old friend and the town Authorities things go to hell in a hand basket real fast!
Superb characters and an excellent storyline that drag you in and refuses to let go until you are done and begging for more! Grab yourself a copy snuggle up with your favorite beverage and prepare for an emotion roller coaster ride. This one brought me to tears! Well Done!🌺

Another great job by Reina Torres. Shifters Romance is something new for me. I have not ventured in this area until Reina introduced it to me. I thank her for that. I think I am now hooked!
In the beginning the story moved a little fast for me, but once it got going I couldn't put it down. I love the heat and the devotion these characters have. The town, the secrets, the rules, the people, I love it all.

I could totally relate to the heroine in this story. She was strong willed and had been through enough in her life that she didn't believe in happily-ever-afters, and she certainly didn't want anyone holding her back from her dream of travelling the world. And she absolutely didn't want a man to get in her way, especially a sexy, hunk of bear shifter like Travis. But she had to stay in Grayslake for a short time while her aunt recovered from her fall. And that's where she meets Travis, a bear shifter who finds himself instantly attracted to her, knowing deep inside himself that she is the one. But how does he convince her that he can give her everything she wants including fulfilling her dreams? It's complicated, and Grace makes it even more complicated, involving the rest of the clan.
Ms Torres always writes compelling love stories, the kind that draw you in, break your heart and heal it again. I am really getting to love her bear shifter romances, and I hope she continues to write them. I fell in love with the characters and the small town in which they lived. The residents made me laugh and shed tears, and I still look forward to reading more.

Grace and Travis were a great story. Loved their individual quirks and nuances. I also loved how they played off the other characters in the story.
Grace had moved back to Grayslake to help her Uncle care for her sick Aunty. I loved how Reina developed Grace as a character. Gace was no shrinking violet and was absolutely adorable to read. I found it endearing how she's a go getter except when it comes to love.
Travis is new to Grayslake, the home town of Grace's aunt and uncle. I loved how we didn't learn everything about Travis right away. I also loved how the surprises were not told in the same way all shifter stories are told. It was not a significant thing to the characters, to find out about shifting. It was told in a manner that all differences should be told. It just is, no drama and hoopla. It was refreshing and gave more credibility to the storytelling.
This does not diminish from reveal, it showed it in a new light, and in a way that made me fall in love with Reina's storytelling even more.

This novella stands alone and *does not* end on a cliffhanger. This story contains both cursing (including an f-bomb) and on-screen sex. If you're used to Ms. Torres' sweet and chaste books you should be aware that this one is steamier than those.
Shifter books are not my typical book of choice, but the story in this one is so good that I found myself disappointed when I got to the end of it. Not because the story wasn't fleshed out well, but because I wanted more time with Travis and Grace together. That's what Ms. Torres does, she writes characters who are just so great together that you want to read more of them.
If you enjoy a shifter romance or an intense story of two people who are drawn together from the very moment they meet, you should read this one.
I requested and was generously granted an ARC of this book. I was under zero obligation to write this review, I did so because this novella was great.

A SMOKING HOT SHIFTER ROMANCE

I am not a huge fan of paranormal/shapeshifter/fantasy stories, but I do read them occasionally. So, when an author I love comes out with such a book, I go for it. Beneath the Surface is a bear shifter romance. The two main leads have an immediate connection with sexual tension between them. They both want different things out of life; Grace is ready to hit the road and explore, does not believe in forever love, and is afraid to commit and lose herself. Travis is escaping a shifter civil war in his hometown. He is ready to settle down, find his mate, and have cubs/children. When these two met, there is an immediate connection with sexual tension that gets hotter as the book goes on. A fun, smoking hot read. Good characters, good story flow, drama, and romance.

This is the second book in the series that I have read and I am hooked! Reina Torres can create characters and settings that make you feel like you have been there and know the people. This this story, Grace is just arriving back in Grayslake to help her Aunt after an accident. One of the things I enjoyed about Grace was her sense of style. It was fun and certainly added to her character. Travis, new in town and hoping to settle down in Grayslake, spots Grace as she gets off the bus and he immediately believes she is destined to be his mate. Grace, however, does not share Travis' belief, and even though the attraction between them is HOT, it is fun to watch him try to convince her. And the added element to the story is the fact that members of Grayslake are shape shifters.
A very enjoyable read from an author who doesn't disappoint. I received an ARC for an honest review, and honestly --- I would recommend this to everyone!!

First let me say I received an ARC of Beneath the Surface from the author. This is my opinion and no one else. Steamy, Sexy and Bears, Oh my! Grace and Travis come from two different worlds literally. Where Grace wants wings, traveling the world, never settling down and never giving her heart, Travis wants a home, a place to belong, someone to belong to. What happens when two people who want very different things meet and passion explodes between them? When a secret is exposed that has the power to change everything will Grace realize in time that being with the right person...i mean bear can give your heart wings, not tie it down. This was VERY steamy and sexy. More so then anything else that Ms. Torres has written before. There were part while reading I thought I was having a hot flash! But having said that it was very well done.

Another great book by Reina Torres! This book has everything a book should have to be an amazing story. The characters don't only have chemistry but their every day dreams and obstacles are very relatable. Grace dreams if traveling and discovering the unknown while Travis hopes for a home life with a wife and kids.
We get to read about an incredible small town life and secondary characters who help develop the story and add to it the final touches to this book. This book is about shifters and the word alpha is always a given and even though Travis is an alpha he is also a very likeable and sweet character. Grace is a little jaded as she's seen her share of failed relationships but her belief in family give her a quality of her own. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Reina Torres has won me over again. Beneath The Surface is another great bear shifter romance. This is a well written story with well developed characters. Travis, a shifter, is looking for a place to call home so he can settle down. Grace is finally home in Grayslake after years away with her mother. Grace always loved Grayslake and has come back to help her Aunt, who has taken ill, take care of the family business. After her Aunt gets better Grace plans on traveling the world. When Travis and Grace meet everything changes. Travis immediately knew he found his mate for life. Now he just needs to convince Grace that she wants to be with him too. I highly recommend this book to everyone looking for something great to read. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

This is very sweet and sexy paranormal romance. Grace is an adorable independent heroine. Travis is devoted hero to Grace. As soon as Travis sees Grace he know she is his mate. Grace has some insecurities from her mom on marriage. I love Travis instant devotion and love for Grace. Grace wants to travel the world and is a little afraid of total commitment. Travis convinces Grace that he is her mate and that Travis is her home. This fun and heartfelt romance . Looking forward to Reina's next paranormal romance.

If you have read any books by Reina Torres, you know she can write contemporary and historical romances! Well, now we can add bear shifters to the list. I really enjoyed reading Travis and Grace's story. I won't leave any spoilers, but I will say I had my doubts about who Grace was going to pick to be mated to, lol. I just love a suspenseful book. Loved this PNR by Reina Torres!! Grace and Travis' love story is explosive! The attraction is mutual an immediate, but what make this story truly interesting is the turn of events and challenges they are faced with. This book has great attention to detail and descriptions so vivid that you can easily imagine the interactions, feelings and surroundings. It's certainly the kind of story that grabs you from the beginning and won't let you loose until the end.

Oh my goodness the heat in this book won't stop. I loved it
The bear shifters are my favorite because they mate for life. I love forever. Travis and Gracie's coming together was the hardest and sweetest thing to read. The characters so filling. I'm wanting more and can't wait for the next book in this series.

Grace is only stopping in Grayslake on her way to Europe and to explore the world. She is ready for some fun, but not the permanent attachment she feels Travis wants. Grace believes no one stays and love is a temporary feeling. Travis is desperately ready to find his mate and settle down somewhere peaceful. She knows enough to be dangerous but not enough of the right things...Travis is wonderfully patient and kind. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Another amazing story. Its suspenseful, steamy and enjoyable read. It will capture your attention from the beginning to end. The chemistry between the characters is sizzling and hot. This is the first time I have read this authors work it will not be the Last! The story was not only a perfect fit in this Kindle World, the storyline drew me in and I would very much like to read more about not only this couple but the area Travis comes from.
