A fantastic YA paranormal read, reminiscent of the film “Practical Magic”! ~InD’tale Magazine
When Goth outcast Salem Miller casts a love spell on Halloween night, she asks for a boy who is handsome, magical, and artistic. She doesn’t count on Fate sending Aidan Cooper.
As a child, Aidan thought he was being rescued, not abducted. Now fifteen and homeless, he realizes he was taken because of his Gypsy blood. His kidnappers believe he’ll lead them to the Grey Grimoire, a priceless spell book. Madness. The book doesn’t even exist.
Or does it?
Salem is charged with fixing a half-destroyed spell book, her last hope for saving her sister. Amy attempted suicide and the meds aren’t helping. Maybe a powerful Get Well Spell will cure her.
Aidan’s kidnappers will kill to attain the Grey Grimoire. But if he destroys it, Salem will hate him. Either way, he loses. Again.
Ariella Moon draws upon her experiences as a shaman to create magical Young Adult fiction. Her series include The Two Realms Trilogy, a medieval Scotland and Fairy fantasy romance, Two Realms Novellas, origin stories of characters and magic in the Two Realms, and The Teen Wytche Saga, a series of sweet contemporary paranormal romances. Ariella’s “Covert Hearts” appears in Second Chances: A Romance Writers of America Collection. She lives a nearly normal life doting on her extraordinary daughter, two shamelessly spoiled dogs, and a media-shy dragon.
Spell Struck is the second book in the Teen Wytche series. Most of the characters are back from Spell Check plus a lot of new ones. The characters drew me into the story so much I admit to crying in a few places both happy and sad tears. There is plenty of drama, real problems like teen suicide, I like how Salem worried about her sister read the warnings signs of teen depression.
This book starts right after the last one finished pretty much. It is Salem who is one of the central characters. Salem meets a new boy in school who fits the love spell she wrote. Her older sister Amy has problems and Salem's whole family is worried about her.
Aidan 15 wants to go to school. He is homeless and the couple that took him in are not nice. Kali a older teen who lives with them tries to help Aidan where she can. Aidan is a artist that works with wood. He has a lot of secrets.
Salem has the Grimoire. It is in bad shape and smells of brimstone. She wants to heal or fix it and hopes there is a spell to heal her sister Amy.
The reason Aidan and his kidnappers are in town is because they think the Gypsy spell book is here. They think Aidan will be the key to finding it. Aidan & Kali don't believe that it really exists. They don't want them to find it if it does. They are living in a foreclosed home. Without water, electricity and heat. Makes you glad for your home.
The setting is outside of San Fransico, CA is a community. In modern times. A lot of the book centers on there schooling.
It is a book that I did not want to put down. I want to know what happens next to these characters lives. I really did enjoy the ending of this book. I know that are a lot of them back in the second half of the third book.
I was given this ebook to read by the author so I could give it a honest review of Spell Struck.
I got this book from the publisher, free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side.
Firstly I would like to thank the publisher and the author for giving me this opportunity of reading and reviewing this book.
I really loved this story. It's so simple and cute yet so intriguing!!! The storyline is fabulous and the plotting is brilliant, I didn't feel bored for a moment and high school life is something that I love to read about and experience the different emotional highs that I think I didn't have felt before.
When newly transferred boy Aidan comes in Salem's life, well it changes everything for both of them. Salem struggles to get her sister well and Aidan is trying to escape his captors and keep Salem hidden and safe from their eyes. Both are keeping secrets from each other but they have true feeling at heart. will they be able to survive after all?
I loved this story very much and the emotions are portrayed so genuinely that Aidan and Salem would feel like your high school mates rather than a fictional character. The chemistry between the two is awesome and Salem's love for her sister is priceless.
The smooth flow of the events held my interest till the end and the bumpy ride of thrills and chills made this read captivating for me. The story will definitely win hearts and I would definitely recommend it to others as well. Hope that you'll love it.
This second installment in the Teen Wytche Saga was even better than the first. More intriguing, totally captivating and even more excitement. There's more suspense with the introduction of Aidan/Nico and his "family's" situation, which makes for an absorbing read.
I liked that the author was able to build on the world introduced in the first book, taking us more in-depth with these characters while adding new twists and turns. The fact that Salem already had knowledge of the magical when this series started just adds to the enjoyment of the read since you know she has a good idea of what she's doing (for the most part-after all, she is a teenager).
This book does touch on the more serious topic of child kidnapping, and the continued more mature personalities of the characters along with the major themes kept me riveted throughout the story.
A definite recommended read for YA paranormal romance lovers, teenage and up...and 4.5 stars from me!
So Spell Struck is book two in the Teen Wytche Saga and I really enjoyed it! This book focuses on Salem from book one and I loved learning her story and her character! Aidan is the new guy in school and his story is tragic really, but we don't get to find out all of the details right away which kept me as the reader interested. His story was dynamic and powerful enough to keep my attention to the very last page. I highly recommend you read book one first or you will be missing important information from the story! Of course the 'teen wytche' is an integral part of the story and we find out even more about that! So if you are a fan of wicca then you will like this book! Most of all I loved the flow of this story, it was effortless and I was hooked to the end! I look forward to reading book three! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I hadn’t read teen witch stories for years before I read Spell Check, now I’m in love with them all over again and Spell Struck is no exception. I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about Salem, and getting to know Aidan whilst reading from each of their perspectives as the tale unfolded. There are so many levels to this story, and no matter what the reader’s age I’m positive it would still be enjoyable for all YA paranormal lovers. I can’t wait to see what’s next in store in this series.
I received an e-copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
First, I would like to thank the author Ariella Moon for giving me this book for an honest review. I liked this book very much. The story-line is good and the world build is nicely done. The characters are well developed and written. I look forward to reading the next book in this saga, kudos to Ariella for writing such a great series.
I seriously loved this book! Moon handles some hard themes with a deft hand, adroitly weaving them into a fun tale of teen dabbling in magic. Oh, and of course there is a great - and realistic - romance.
Judging by appearances never ends well as this story illustrates rather well. Sometimes people do unexpected things to protect themselves. Looking past the obvious changes everything.
