Added in after finishing volume 4 (no spoilers):
Honestly this has turned into the best isekai series I've read recently. Great characters, a touch of ecchi that isn't overbearing, and a world that doesn't feel stale and overdone.

Previous review:
3.5 rounded down because some things were funny ... and some things were not.

Weirdest thing about this manga is that the main character is 37 years old. 😅

My favourite manga series of the moment. Eight volumes are available in translation, and there's also an anime series (which is where I started).

This is an 'isekai' (other world) manga/anime (tremendously popular at the moment), and it follows one of the standard conventions of the sub-genre - 'regular' person goes to/is trapped in/is reborn in another world, where he (almost always he) is spectacularly powerful. 'Slime' goes all in on this concept only in so far as 'Rimuru' is spectacularly power in the world te is reborn into. As the title immediately shows, te is also a slime (a standard normally low-level fantasy monster).

Rimuru then turns convention on its head by running around befriending and allying almost everyone te meets, including goblins, dire wolves, dwarves, ogres and lizard people. The story for quite a period turns into what I've heard described as an attempt at a cultural victory in the game Civilization as Rimuru spends ter time establishing and improving a village for ter new goblin friends and allies.

You'll note that 'te' and 'ter' pronouns, and that's because, as a slime, Rimuru is genderless (although with the memories and general feelings of a late-thirties het Japanese man). Interestingly, even when Rimuru te chooses to remain genderless.

That's not to say that the story is fantastic in regards to women, since a solid percentage of the female characters apparently enjoy carrying Rimuru around tucked under their copious chests, but these scenes aside, it's pretty low on the usual array of fan service that can make manga/anime a chore. Despite the carrying scenes, 'Slime' seems inclined to defy another isekai convention of assembling a harem of women in love with/romantically entangled with the main character. Most of the female characters treat Rimuru affectionately but not sexually, and the one potential love interest .

On a related note, I've also been reading a translation of a webnovel called Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, which is a rare female-led isekai, and hilarious (and also very close to pure slice of life, since it's just the main character meandering through events, periodically establishing business to cook food for her, and exploring). There's no English version released of the manga, though.

Maybe the anime is alot better but I found this really dull.

When a 30 year old gets killed in real life he's transported to a fantasy game like world where he's a slime. Now I'm a huge JRPG fan so the start of this was intriguing. Him becoming a slime, and then leveling up by using moves over and over again was pretty cool. I also really enjoyed some of the fights, pretty brutal.

But that's it...the story takes forever to go anywhere and when we do it seems like just happening. Like we roll with the slime till he gains a following. Then we deal with slime being hugged by half naked girls because fan service. Then we try to get into a deeper plot but by then I'm already checked out.

Meh on this.

--- Regarding Reincarnated to Slime 1-? ---
Plot: Ok.
Penokohan: Ok.
Gambar: Ok.

Hadiah PAPR dari Elex Media Komputindo! ^^

Tapi.
Jika.
Bisa.
Menuliskan.
Dengan.
Jujur.
Di.
Goodreads.
Ini...

Sejujurnya, menurut saya ceritanya biasa-biasa saja.

Soal karakternya...
Ngggg.... sejujurnya bukan masuk cangkir ekspektasi saya... apalagi karena si slime ternyata sangat OP dalam banyak artian. Dia adalah OPM di komik ini... bwahhaha! //bukan.

All in all.... begitulah!
Favorit saya disini hanya Veldora (dan sedikit banyak, si petapa XD). Tak lebih, tak kurang ^^.

I bought the first volume of this manga because Delicious in Dungeon volume 3 was canceled, much to my chagrin. (I will just have to buy the rest in Japanese.) This comic features some dude who gets reincarnated into a video game, I guess, and in the body of a slime no less. He then proceeds to blunder his way into becoming a super powerful monster with an army who can basically do anything because by some coincidence he always has just the right ability to solve every crisis he comes across. Oh, and hot women like him, too. (Looking at that synopsis, it almost sounds like Sword Art Online if he main character were a slime!)

To me, the conceit was mildly amusing, but the end result grew tiresome before the end of even one volume. I guess there is just one more volume of the comic, so I might finish it up, but this isn’t exactly inspired writing, and the characters are mostly paper thin.

Isekai manga, where the protagonist travels to or is reincarnated in another world, are staggeringly popular at the moment and clog the virtual shelves and release schedules even in translation. That Time… is one of the best sellers and certainly seems to have kickstarted the genre’s English language popularity, so I figured I’d give it a shot.

The appeal of this doesn’t need much explanation: it’s sheer wish fulfilment as our protagonist faces barely any threat and is able to simply acquire new fantastic powers as the plot demands. Going in I was expecting it to be a story about overcoming limitations, but there aren’t really limitations to overcome. Pleasant but pointless escapism that doesn’t do much to overcome my sense that I can give this whole sub genre a miss.

Huumoriakin on mukana, vähän pikkutuhmaa sellaista, mikä miellyttänee ensisijaista kohderyhmää.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Vol. 1 (My Kindle Review)

We meet Mikami, a 30-something man whose has a not so carefree life as a salaryman and he meets an unexpected fate when he’s stabbed by an unknown man. He wakes up in a world of fantasy and role playing, and learns that he’s been reborn as a small round blob of blue slime. Thus begins a strange but exciting new journey for him when he has a dragon as his companion, learns he harbors special abilities and uses them to help a goblin village that see him as their savior.

It’s a humorous and adventurous “what if” story that actually has a great concept that delivers. There’s enough fantasy and humor that make it so fun to read. Our blob’s story is just beginning and we’ll see where he’ll how in his new life. A- (91%/Excellent)

It takes a lot for an isekai to make much of an impression on me. As a whole, I feel the subgenre grew stale years ago, though there is the occasional diamond in the rough. I know That Time... seems pretty popular, and it at least has the distinction of having the protagonist be reborn as something that's not immediately overpowered, so I decided to finally give it a shot...

...and it doesn't take long for him to become the best at everything he does. Sigh. It would've taken a herculean effort to regain my interest after Rimuru starts being able to absorb any power he wants, and let's just say that effort doesn't happen in this volume. What we get instead is a fairly bog standard isekai power trip, where protagonist-san faces no real challenges, and everybody loves him, with a focus on monsters instead of humans. Even getting arrested by the dwarf king at the end of this volume is something I'm sure will have no lasting repercussions.

If you haven't gotten bored with the same old tropes yet, I guess you might find something to like here.

As the synopsis says, the slime isn't exactly the most badass monster, so despite this being yet another reincarnated in another world manga...I was curious by this potentially interesting twist. I was hoping it would make this stand out from the sea of similar novels, and I really do think it does. There are so many similar books recently, someone gets reincarnated in another world, they end up being a hero or a badass or something...but our main character is a slime and that's both hilarious and kind of awesome because it's so different.

There's a brilliant scene near to the beginning when he's just reincarnated, and his senses are unfolding and it was so fantastically well done! Incredibly well translated from the novel to the manga and from that point I was thinking...okay...this is going to be good.

TTIGRAAS is genuinely hilarious right from the start, I'm not going to lie. It cracked me up and made this read so much fun. Our main character, Rimuru's, narrative voice, was freaking hilarious. He was so relatable. He kept relating things to our world and things that you as a reader understand it was so brilliant. His observations and references where just so on point and he called things perfectly more than once. He was so calculating too! I'm actually excited to see him develop as a character and become the most badass slime to ever slime!

Aside from Rimuru there's a lot of other brilliant characters, Veldora is my other favourite. I'm kinda sad we didn't get to see more of him he was equally as hilarious and I actually felt kinda bad for him, poor lonely dragon! There's a brilliant section at the end, "Veldora's Slime Observation Journal", that's equally as hilarious as the manga itself. It also totally has a Heroic Legend of Arslan reference, and you guys KNOW how much I love Arslan, I definitely squealed and got overly excited because not only is Veldora casually reading manga but he's reading ARSLAN SENKI. He has good taste.

The art is brilliant, the story has a nice pace, there's originality to it and there's lots of intriguing plot threads combing to make an enjoyable and fun plot. The story builds up as you read bringing more and more in, learning more and more about the world and I quickly became engrossed in it and found myself really enjoying myself! I'm so intrigued to see where this is going to go, as the art pages at the beginning provided us a glimpse and I can't wait to see how we get there!

This was fun. This was quirky and silly and fun. And surprisingly well put together.

It's an isekai series, but it seems more like a parody than it seems to be playing the genre straight. This guy gets reincarnated as the wimpiest of generic monsters, a slime. With his human brains and helpful voice in his head, he's able to take advantage of his slime abilities to become too crazy powerful. There's some genre-savviness too, which adds to the fun.

Is it good? Maybe, maybe not. Can't really tell, honestly. I'm too busy laughing and enjoying this to really judge its quality. Suffice it to say that I'm finding this to be super fun.

It’s cute. It is a great concept that very quickly devolves into your run of the mill fantasy story.

The slime is essentially the silver bullet solution to every problem in the world, a trope which starts funny and then gets old pretty quick.

I’m glad I checked it out, but one volume is enough to get a sense of the story.

4.5 -

I kept getting suggestions from my friends to read/watch this. So I decided to give it a spin and see how it turns out.

The overall story, from what I can tell, isn't 100% unique except for the slime part. Which is, of course, the best part. It is humorous and would fit well as an RPG game. It sort of has a slow start but it explains it later.

The characters are pretty funny. The main character is stereotypically OP but he's cool. He's older than I expected, which isn't a problem because it gives him an advantage over everyone. The rest of the cast are just extras so far. Character development is well paced and matches the story's pacing.

The art style is quite well done. The lines are clear. Proportions are on point.

This reminds me of Dr. Stone and a mixture of RPG games but with a unique MC.

Yksi mukaansatempaavimmista sarjoista, joita olen lukenut.

I think the anime is better.

Our slime protagonist doesn't really earn his powers, which is a let down when compared to Spider. But it's main feature is more about politics, puns, and world building than about power.

Art is great, the world is interesting, the story is ok.

Pay attention to Gobota's story. I will give you a hint, it's of a different genre than the main story.

I highly recommend this book for people who are just starting to read Manga. It was the first Manga book I ever properly read. All the characters are creatively made and given very interesting back stories. Especially the orges. The artwork is beautiful and surprisingly not bloody and gory. (Review by Sean, age 14.5)
