Faced with magic, it helps to be Resilient…

Ex-military medic Kell Somersall loves his private security job with the Rycroft Group. Consistent employment by a billionaire that pays really well, the ability to carry guns, and working with his friends and former teammates. Oh yeah, and the fact that he now has magical superpowers. Sure, his ability is only enhanced hearing and nothing flashy, but it still makes life interesting. So when his job takes him to a remote jungle, the last thing he expects is an adorable, brave, American tourist in the middle of everything.
Gwen Laurent was looking to get away from it all, and eco-tourism in a rainforest seemed like a good idea — up until goblins straight from fairy tales come running up to her cabin. She picks up arms against the goblins, happily so when she sees an attractive military man as part of the group attacking the goblins. The tiny sidearm she’s using is no match for the energy weapons used by the goblins, and even with the handsome man at her side, and she is injured before being whisked away to safety.
After eavesdropping enough to hear of a magical elixir that could heal her injuries, Gwen takes it upon herself to drink it. She hadn’t heard enough to know that it would be giving her a magical ability. So when more goblins come to attack, she’s as surprised as anyone when snowballs and icicles start shooting out of her fingertips.
Kell needs to help Gwen learn how to use her new powers, which is difficult when they can’t keep their hands off of each other. Toss in the Rycroft Group needing to figure out the source of the goblins, and Kell and Gwen have a lot going on — in and out of bed.

Wow! I am loving this Rycroft Group series! The first book was simply amazing, and this one is every bit as brilliant. Kell rushes to protect an innocent civilian on one of the group's missions to stop Reiner, but finds that Gwen is no shrinking violet as she fires back at the goblins invading her peaceful sanctuary. Gwen soon finds herself swept up with the Rycroft team, but doesn't seem to mind be watched over by the tough, sexy warrior with the super-hearing. The team has their hands full with her, trying to help her figure out her new abilities without anyone (or any more Pepsi bottles) getting hurt while they also try to eliminate the current threat from the goblins and find Rycroft before it's too late. The part with the stone rings was a stroke of genius - an absolutely breathtaking scene with a truly magical result. There is plenty of action and adventure in this story, but at its heart it's a beautiful love story that is captivating from the very start. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I have been anxiously waiting for the next book of the Rycroft Group since finishing the first one, and I am so grateful to finally get my hands on the second book. Kell was the strong silent type the first time around and that really doesn't change much in this book. The big difference is now we get to see some of what makes him the strong silent type. Gwen is feisty and fiercely independent: that's not always an asset in the situations she now finds herself in. I loved the chemistry between these two. The push/pull dynamic as they tried to resist their attraction led to some wonderfully comedic scenes. That, and trying to fit this imminently practical loner into the arcane world the Rycroft Group deals with on a regular basis also resulted some truly slapstick moments. Every time we learn a little bit about their world, I want to know even more. My fingers are already twitching to get a hold of book three.

When I read the first book, I was dying for Book 2. Now it's here and I LOVE IT, TOO! We met the entire team before in Remarkable and this is Kell and Gwen's story. Kell is the team medic and not much on sharing. Until he met Gwen. She is smart, brave and a bit snarky. I'm not sure if I would have been brave (or dumb) enough to take the elixir. I loved how her REMFAC appeared. I thought Ben over-reacted to an incident with a Pepsi and her new power. I also loved the aspect of the crystals bonding and healing power. Over all, I couldn't put it down. The goblins may attack while I slept so I had to keep reading. I really can't wait, again, for the next book. I am working so hard on learning patience, but with books like this it's not easy. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

What a great book 2. It is the story of Kell and how he meets Gwen. It starts out with a bang ie goblins and the Rycroft force fighting each other and just gets better from there. There were a few fight scenes, and a few funny scenes too. Just a fun read. Plus Gwen is a hoot and I found her powers to be hysterical. Give the cool powers (pun intended) to the non-soldier. Liked the first book and thought this was just as good. The right mix of funny , fighting, and a few sexy steamy scenes that are not nasty in my opinion. I say pick up the first book and then enjoy the Rycroft group with this one. Plus there was a touch of mystery about the stones that is interesting and I cannot wait to see what happens with them and the others in the next book.

3.5 stars. Resilient is the second book in the Rycroft Group series. While this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone though it is open-ended for the next book. There is violence and sex so 18+.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that info here. The author managed to describe the main characters and the setting well. The storyline is average but overall it has some twists and turns that make it a good read. I enjoyed this book and I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.

Companionship. That's what Gwen wishes for. Who knew that a vacation for one to a rainforest would be so lonely? Then the goblins showed up along with Kell and the Rycroft Group. Now not only does Gwen have companionship but a REMFAC(remarkable faculty) that she can't control. This was a great story and addition to this series. Loved both Kell and Gwen. Looking forward to more in this series- especially Ben's story.

For Kell and Gwen I think it was lust at first sight despite the battle raging around them. Gwen was so independent it was kind of a hindrance when it came to Kell and the team. It took a lot of trust and magic stones to prove Kell wasn't going anywhere. Loved the idea of Pepsi as a weapon.
