Simply Philippians: A Crash Course in Understanding, Applying, and Discussing the Bible

Rate this book
More than a brief introduction. Less than a dense commentary. Overviews in the SIMPLY series give you all the handles and keys you need to understand the books of the Bible, apply their truths to real life, and discuss them informally or in study groups. Balanced, accessible, full of insight, and unencumbered by doctrinal agendas, every book in this series covers the background, themes, storylines, major concepts, and big-picture implications of the biblical text itself. It will equip you to read the Bible with much greater awareness of its context and appreciation for its truths. Philippians serves as a field manual in turning thoughts away from negatives to positives, from distortions to truths, and from earthly views to heavenly ones. Paul’s love for this church comes through clearly, as do his hopes that its members will resolve some of the tensions among them. His high view of Jesus and his wholehearted passion for following him are examples for his readers, and many throughout history have found encouragement and inspiration in his devotion. For anyone going through a difficult time, facing opposition, struggling with negative thoughts, or absorbed in a limited or false perspective, the words of Philippians offer motivation, redirection, and an entirely new way to see.
