This tell-all book exposes and explains in layman terms the various shady ways Taiwan's financial industry as a whole has been exploiting retail customers' trust and ignorance for huge profits. While the veracity of the author's account is unknown, readers should feel enraged even if just half of it is true. As far as I can see, unfortunately, the financial literacy of many Taiwaneses remains woefully inadequate. Thus, when being presented with mutual funds, insurance policies, or exotic investment products, they usually have difficulty seeing through the carefully crafted sales pitch, hidden fee structures, deliberately obscure fine print in investment product contracts, distorted incentive structure for customer-facing sales agents, etc. Although it might be impractical for everyone to spend large amounts of time poring over all types of financial products, this book should help point readers towards some of the most prevalent pitfalls to look out for when dealing with their financial institutions.
