1375 A.D. – When Sir Christopher “Kit” Emory’s beloved mother falls ill, he decides to seek the help of someone he met briefly at the royal court years ago—Lady Alys de Montfort, a renowned healer despite her young age. While traveling to her home at Kinwick Castle, Kit is accosted by a band of highwayman, who beat and rob him, leaving him to die. Fortunately, an escort party comes across him and Lady Alys insists they take the stranger home so she can use her skill in the healing arts to save his life.
The man awakens and has no memory of his identity, but Alys believes he might be Kit Emory, a young man she’d met once when she was a young girl. Kit comforted her when the queen died and Alys never forgot his kindness to her. Alys does what she can to jog Kit’s memory, even as she struggles with her growing attraction to him, knowing Kit was betrothed and must now be wed. Kit also finds his desire deepening for Alys, but he doesn’t know his own name, much less if he has a wife or family. Until he recalls who he is, he refuses to commit his heart to Alys.
Once Kit regains his memory and realizes he is free to pursue Alys, their road to love is anything but smooth.
Join Kit and Alys as they overcome events that continue to tear them apart and threaten the love they have for one another.
Each book in the Knights of Honor series is a standalone story that can be enjoyed out of order.

Award-winning and USA Today bestselling author Alexa Aston lives with her husband in a Dallas suburb, where she eats her fair share of dark chocolate and plots out stories while she walks every morning. She enjoys travel, sports, and time with her family.
Her historical romances bring to life loveable rogues and dashing knights, while her contemporary romances are light and flirty and sometimes contain a bit of suspense.
The medieval era is a favorite of mine. Alexa Aston’s Heart of Honor (Knights of Honor Book 5) is set during the reign of Edward III in the year of 1375. Sir Christopher ‘Kit’ Emory, one of the protagonists, is at Edward III’s court when he meets Lady Alys de Montfort, the other young protagonist, who is a young trained healer serving the king and queen. Six years later they meet again, but Kit has been ambushed and left for dead when Lady Alys and her escort find him. Being a healer as her mother is, Lady Alys has Kit taken to her family home to care for him. When Kit wakes, he has no idea who he is. ‘True love never runs smooth’ as is clearly seen in this sweet story. The medieval period is known for its violence, but this love story is definitely a ‘feel good’ read! 4 stars!
Heart of Honor, Lady Alys'de Montfort and Sir, Christopher “Kit” Emory’s Story is the fifth book in the Knight's of Honor Series. I have to say this author was a new to me author a year ago and ever since Book 1, I have been a believer in her storytelling. None of the books have disappointed me. I believe they are getting better and better!
In this story, we have Lord Geoffrey and Lady Merryn de Montfort's eldest daughter, Alys' de Montfort, as the heroine. Lord Geoffrey and Lady Merryn we're the hero and heroine of Book 1 in this series. Everything started with them. Our hero is Sir Christopher “Kit” Emory.
These two meet at court when they are both 6+ years younger. Alys was 12 years old and Kit was a handful of years older. She was fostering at the Royal Court under the watchful eye of the Queen. She also served as a healer. Here she meets Kit a handsome man who is troublesome under his own admittance to her. This young man comforted her when she needed it the most, but she finds out he is already betrothed to someone she knows.
Fast forward 6+ years and we have ourselves a captivating story that will keep you enraptured throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was a nice size story and we'll rounded. I love that the author intertwines all of the characters from the four previous books. It keeps all of the characters and series alive in my mind. I loved Heart of Honor!!
This book affirmed how much I enjoy historical romances set in medieval times. Although this is book 5 in the Knights of Honor series, it was thoroughly enjoyable as a standalone. So enjoyable that I want to start reading the first four books in order. This had a great and complex story, with several plot twists and an overall sense of a grand sweeping love story complete with some adventure and danger.
The characters are every bit as outstanding as the plot. The hero and heroine are strong, likeable, and suit each other well. My particular delight was with the heroine, who was trained as a healer as well as with a blade. There are some bad men in this story and when they do some bad things, she not only relies on herself but demonstrates her skills and courage. I delighted in her, and the hero was every bit worthy. I have realized that the heroine's parents are the main couple from the first book in this series, which I am now dying to read. They are excellent characters in this book, and their daughter is noted to have the best characteristics of each of them.
I appreciated that this felt true to the time period in a natural enjoyable way. I never felt like I was reading a textbook or that the author was trying to squeeze in every bit of research and facts as possible about the time period.
I received a copy of this book from the author during a giveaway on The Reading Cafe. I am delighted to have been able to read this book and to have been introduced to this series. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a medieval historical romance.
It’s hard to overcome what life offers, particularly for a girl child, in a male dominated society. Life conditions were difficult for men and women during the Medieval Ages. Young men’s lives were dictated to by societal needs for family strength. It was a time of darkness and heaviness of heart. Battles were fought, men killed without much thought, women were captured, treated as property much of their lives.
In this story, a pocket of happiness surrounds the de Montfort clan. Alys de Montfort was happy serving Queen Philippa and the king. She learned the skill of herbs from her mother and aided the royal court. When the queen died, she left for Kinwick Castle, her home, with a sad heart.
In her young life, there hadn’t been a man she’d met who made her heart flutter, therefore she didn’t want to marry. Her father and mother didn’t push her. After all, they were able to marry for love and this they wanted for their children. Only one young man had made an impression on twelve-year-old Alys – Christopher Emory. But he, too, would be taken, already betrothed to a woman of the court, Richessa Giffard — a match to strengthen their families.
Alys loved life, and was a happy and compassionate woman. She had come to realize she may not be meant to marry, rather her calling would be to dedicate her life to healing others.
Kit (Christopher) Emory, son of Godwin Emory, Baron of Brentley, had just returned to court after many years in France and soon left to see his mother, Berengarria Emory. His father remained in court as advisor to the king. Kit loved his mother who taught him everything about running Brentwood, his home. Anxious to see her, he left for home only to find her very ill. Scared for her health, he decided to seek out Alys de Montfort, a young woman he had met at court who was renowned for her medicinal cures. He felt attracted to her, but life moved people as pawns. She left for home and he to France. Would she still be unmarried?
England’s roads are not safe, many prey upon others who have more. Kit gets attacked on his way to Kinwick, all clothing and weaponry taken, and left for dead, a mass of swelling and bruises.
Alys accompanies her young brothers back to their foster home, only to find a man left for dead on the road. No matter who the man is, pauper or noblemen, her compassion does not allow her to retreat without help.
Kit gets returned to Kinwick Castle and is nurtured back to health by Alys and her mother. Kit is frustrated for he’s lost his memory. Alys thinks he looks familiar, but can’t say for sure who he is.
The story holds much warmth and friendship with action-packed scenes. Many-a-time, I found myself actively cheering for Alys, feeling her emotions. She falls in love with a man who doesn’t remember who he is. When she’s positive she knows who he is, she fears to tell him. She knows he’s married. Couldn’t she have a few more days of living a dream?
I’ve read all of this series and have found each of the five stories most entertaining. If you like your Medieval Romances with amazingly honorable knights placed in difficult and challenging circumstances, you’ve found your author!
In England during the 1300’s, marriages often took place because of political advantages or family duty. Though love is the deciding factor in why couples wed in the Knights of Honor series, their road to lasting joy is definitely filled with lots of dilemmas that may keep them apart. Alexa Aston makes any problems which arise very conceivable, and I could not foresee an easy solution to most of these troubling predicaments. As love is tested over and over again in the fifth book of the series, I became even more concerned over the future happiness of Lady Alys de Montfort and Sir Christopher “Kit” Emory. With each new development, I was drawn into the lives of this charming couple, where circumstances and every character are very believable. HEART OF HONOR is enthralling since your every emotion is profoundly affected.
When Lady Alys de Montfort and Sir Christopher “Kit” Emory first met, the two were rather young and had come to the English royal court in order to serve their rulers. She left for home shortly thereafter, and though she thought about the kind boy who consoled her during a distressing time, she knew they would never see one another again. Once back at Kinwick Castle, Alys continues learning from her mother about how herbs can aid those suffering from an illness.
Six years later, Kit remembers the skill of a girl for healing others, and he now needs her assistance because his mother is seriously ill. As he makes his way to where the healer lives, thieves attack him. With his severe injuries, Kit would surely have died if Alys had not been riding to a neighboring estate and took him back to her home. When he realizes that he does not know his name or background, he and the woman helping him know they must not speak about their growing attraction until questions about him are answered.
HEART OF HONOR is creative in how it entwines factual history with an imagined romance. Alexa Aston makes the daily details of those living in this period come to life with colorful descriptions, and even uses actual individuals from time to time. From showing encouragement to festive celebrations to pleasurable encounters, Kit and Alys took me on a riveting journey as they came to know one another more fully. The incidents where they were confronted by some form of danger had my own heart racing when situations turned uncertain. I often felt like I was right beside the characters experiencing the moment with them.
Alys has always been mature for her age, and greatly cares for people in need. Kit was much more carefree, and as the story progresses, I delighted in seeing how much he changed after observing her thoughtful behavior. Though she has been in the previous stories, reading those books only enriches your thoughts about this gifted healer. The author gives plenty of hints about her past history as well as that of other important characters to make this book a standalone. I simply adored Kit and Alys, as their every action made me want what was best for them.
I voluntarily reviewed the book and all comments are my honest opinion
Heart of Honor is a medieval romance and book five of the Knights of Honor series by Alexa Aston. This is the story of Christopher Emory and Alys de Montfort. If you are fortunate enough to have read the other books in this series, you will recognize Alys as the daughter of Lord Geoffrey and Lady Merryn. This wonderful story is every bit as talentedly written as the others. Alys is in court and serving the ailing Queen Phillipa when she meets Kit (aka Christopher). He has been sent by the king to ask Alys to attend to the king’s headache. She also was requested by the queen to bring the king to see the queen. They have a momentous first meeting and the king attends the queen on her deathbed. This is also where she learns Kit (the only man to attract her attentions) is betrothed to another. Six years later, Alys is home at Kinwick castle and learning more from her beloved mother. Her father and others have just returned from fighting the French. Kit has also returned from the war to find his beloved mother ill, his unbeloved wife dead. With his mother very ill, he remembers the lovely girl (the only one he’s ever been really attracted to) comes to mind as a wonderful healer and the wife he really wants to have. He immediately sets out to retrieve the Lady Alys for both reasons. On his way to Kinwick, he is beset by robbers. The Montfort’s are escorting their sons back to their fostering home and find the unconscious man, stripped naked and left for dead. Alys doesn’t recognize him but sends for a cart and they take him to Kinwick for healing. This is what begins this marvelously romantic and adventurous story. The twists are heart rending and the love scenes are heart thumping. The story is fast paced and full of familiar and wonderful characters. The two main characters are wonderfully developed and capture you heart. If you’re a fan of this series, this story does not disappoint. If you have not read this series, Good Lord why not? These are tales of knights of honor and adventure, love at its finest. Do yourself a favor and put these in your collection or your TBR. You’ll be happy, I promise.
I so enjoyed this book as this story continues. I knew from book 4 that Avelyn and Kit would find each other again. I am so glad I found the free download for Alexa. She is an excellent author. I am off to purchase Books 6 and 7. Happy reading.
This review is from: Heart of Honor (Knights of Honor Book 5) (Kindle Edition) What can i say , another brilliant book from Alexa. All her books in this series can be read as standalones , but i find its better to read them in sequence. Alys is the daughter of Geoffrey and Merryn DeMonfort ,whos story begins the series in book one . Kit is a young knight she meets while serving at court , though he is already betrothed , and she only being 12,and the queens healer, has no plans to join herself for life to anyone . Time goes on and Alys has left court but never forgotton the young man who was a friend to her when she needed one . Kit comes back from the war in France to find his now wife has died and his mother in need of a healer , and he sets off to persuade Alys to go back with him to his home and help his mother . On the way he is attacked and left for dead , he looses his memory and Alys nurses him back to health , falling love with each other all over again . Alexa has a special way with her characters , you can tell , she doesnt just write the story she befriends each and every one of them , it means they do they same to you , and in turn you have the same feeling for them .I love the relationships in the DeMonfort family the love and respect they have , it makes them more real . I wont give away anymore of the story , i dont want to spoil it for you.Just know if you dont read this and the others you will miss a special treat from a special writer . Thanks Alexa , now for the next one , cant wait .
At just twelve years old Lady Alys de Montfort is the most sought after healer in the royal court. Unfortunately even she cannot save her beloved queen. It's time now to go home to her family. Christopher (Kit) Emory has come back from the disastrous war in France. He finds there are a lot of the most important people in the land, and his family extremely ill. There is one person he remembers from his time at court a few years before, maybe she can help his mother. Our incredible heroine suspects who her latest patient might be, but if she tells him, it might slow his healing and she would have to share him. Our hero has always been very impetuous, throwing himself into things before thinking about the consequences. This is part of a series, but easily read as a stand alone. If like me, you have read the previous stories, you will recognize the family. They are all wonderful and strong characters. I like to think this really was what life was like. A thoroughly enjoyable historical romance with lots of action and excitement. Who do we get next, Ancel maybe??? I loved it.
It’s always nice to revisit the world of the de Montfort’s. It’s a large family with plenty of storylines. In Heart of Honor, it’s finally Alys’s time to shine. Reading this series from the beginning, I felt like I was like watching her grow up.
Heart of Honor is a second chances love story that follows Alys and Kit on their journey back to each other. The thing with Medieval Romances is that there is plenty of drama to be had. Characters have to work hard to get their happily ever afters. From arranged marriages (that Kit has to endure), to corrupt knights (that Alys and Kit both have to endure), and serious misunderstandings.
Although there were some key elements that I enjoyed in this story, I didn’t find is as exciting as some of the previous installments. Kit’s foray into amnesia was a little cliched and the danger factor wasn’t as menacing, in my opinion.
Alys’s and Kit’s insta-attraction romance was sweet. I loved their dialogue and overall it was an enjoyable read.
I was really excited for Alys’s story. I enjoyed her character since the first book. She’s such a strong person with a caring heart, just like her mother. And I couldn’t wait to see who she ended up with. Well she met her match at court. 1 brief meeting with Kit and she was lost. Unfortunately he was betrothed to another and she went back home. 6 years have past and she still hasn’t forgotten him. I’m sorry to say that I didn’t really care for Kits character that much which is why I’m rating this book 3.5 stars. I don’t like reading about the Hero’s being with other women, even in past tense. And the fact that through out this book he kept remembering them (even if it meant nothing to him) felt wrong. However Alys and her family were great and what really made this story for me. I loved catching up with everyone from the previous books and I cant wait to jump into Ancel’s book.
The book opens with Alys finding the man of her dreams, only to realize he is betrothed to the girl with whom she shares a room. Fast forward a few years, Kit and Alys meet again, only to have another tragedy, or is it? I enjoy a writer that allows her Heroines to be strong, self sufficient, and also sweet. This series continues that trend with Alys' story. She can protect herself with a sword, is a healer and is loved by the people that work for her parents. Kit has been a rake, but with his association with Alys, strives to always do the right thing-even when it isn't in his best interest. there are many twists in this story, which kept my interest until the end!
This is a great addition to the series, with all of our favorites in attendance.
I really loved that this book is #5 in the series, yet is able to stand on it's own. I now have an interest in learning about the other characters in the book.
Kit and Alys were attracted to each other from the day they met at court. Even though the King and Queen have promised their favorite young healer to arrange a marriage of her choosing, her heart's desire (Kit) is already betrothed to another. 6 years later, things seem to be looking as though there is a chance for them to be reunited, only to be confronted with obstacle after obstacle. Frustrating, but pays off in the end.
Heart of Honor is book 5 of a Historical Romance series by Alexa Aston. She is a well known, accomplished author, who uses her storytelling ability to enchant her readers with a plot that was well constructed and characters so well developed they could have leapt off the page and into my "Book World" where I keep my favorites. Heart of Honor is filled with non stop, riveting action and suspense. I laughed as well as cried with this one. Alys and Kit experienced roadblocks and unexpected twists of fate and luck within their story. I would easily recommend this new series to my Historical Romance reading friends.
This is the fifth book in a wonderful series of romances that are filled with adventure and intrigue. In this story, Lady Alys is a beautiful young healer, who is favored by the Queen for her skills. She meets 'Kit' at court and they are impressed by each other, but it is not to be. A few years later, fate intervenes, and could they have a chance at happiness? This was an enjoyable read and it brought a few characters up from earlier books in the series too. The plot had adventure, danger and romance - and Lady Alys was terrific!
I wondered who Alys would fall in love with and I am pleased with her choice. This family always seem to fall in love quickly and then hit major road-blocks that they have to go through before they can ever begin their happily ever afters. Great story. Each one gets better.
Alexa Aston's Honor books are great!! I love reading books that you are introduced to certain characters. and then you see them in the other books. It makes me feel like I am a part of the family. You will love reading about Kris and Alys story.
I love this series! This is my 3rd day of binge reading... just found finished Heart of Honor, Book 5. This is the story of Alys and her love, Kit. Alys is the oldest daughter of Lord Geoffery and Lady Merryn. Well written page turner!
This is the fifth book of this author's books I have read. Each book makes you want to read the next one. Great story line with interesting people in it.
Alys met Kit aka Christopher when was betrothed to someone else! She was very young but never forgot him nor he her! Kit married and his wife died and had only stillborn children! Kit was restless and someone reckless with no direction except from his mother! His father thrived on court opulence and politics not on nurturing and preparing his son for manhood! Kit didn't seem to be responsible for much at all! Alys on the other hand was a healer raised by a warm loving family and hated court intrigue and gossip! She is a fierce fighter and healer she is beloved by her people in her fathers house! She doesn't recognize her own beauty inside and out! Kit remembers she is a healer and journeys to her father house to request help to heal his mother! Kit is set up on by bandits and left for dead! Alys and her father Geoffrey find Kit and Alys and her Mother nurse him back to health! Kit doesn't know who he is Alys is sure he is the younger man she met on the day of Queen Phillipa death! Kit to me is not as honorable as he could be when he remembers who he is!? He did go to Alys parents and take her to heal his mom but he knew what a dastardly father he had! His father always arranged things to his benefit and had planned things behind Kits back! There seems no way back from the mess his father has made and resolves to petition the king and make the necessary sacrifices for his people and his mother! But then Alys is kidnapped and it seems again that a race against time to save her...what if they are too late!?? Kit can't loose the only woman he's ever loved!!!
So, I really went back and forth with this book. I really liked the both Kit and Alys. However, I feel like the choices that Alys made when she realized who Kit was completely went against who she had been in every other book. I didn’t like her dishonesty or how it was just skipped over and not really addressed enough. Also, the book, in general, was a little dark. Between Kit’s brutal beating and her kidnapping, I felt like it was too much. There was more focus on all the crimes than the love, in my opinion. All of the darkness took away from some of the charm that I normally like in Alexa Aston books. This series is definitely not one of my favorites of hers. If I didn’t have a serious problem with leaving things unfinished, I may have stopped reading the series already. It helps if you are invested in characters from previous books because it makes you curious how their life turns out. On the other hand, the drawback is when the characters that you loved seem so different during their own story making you change your view if them.
A fun addition to the historical Knights of Honor series, “Heart of Honor” is book 5, and features an "insta-love" couple separated by time and a betrothal.
This series gets better and better! It is well written. Characters are realistic and enjoyable. I was stuck to the pages from start to finish! The scenes come alive as you read, Alexa Aston done amazing job of catching your attention and keeping!
Loved all the characters, but the character of Alyse was my favorite. You find yourself cheering her on and proud of the woman she has become to her family and to Kit.
They went through a lot to be together and he saved her from kidnappers. He said she was his heart and even went to the king to annul the betrothed papers that his father made.
