Mei Lin Yu, a shy studious young woman from a Founding Family, and Silence, a fierce snowcat running with outlaws, shouldn’t have anything in common. But on New Eden, a world where the native Ddaerans have psychic abilities, a world ruled by the Founders who fled a dying Earth…anything is possible. When Mei Lin is forced out of the comfortable refuge of Mynyddamore and confronted with a secret from the past that is very much alive, will she be able to save herself and Silence to gain the trust of a man who has no reason to trust anyone from a Founding Family?Under Two Moons, a science fiction action adventure novel, is the sequel to Between Mountain and Sea and is the second book in USA Today bestselling author Louisa Locke’s Caelestis series in the Paradisi Chronicles (an open source science fiction series created by multiple authors).
M. Louisa Locke is recently retired from over 20 years as a professor of U.S. Women's history, and she is now embarked on s second career writing historical fiction. The first book in her Victorian San Francisco Mystery series, Maids of Misfortune, is a best-seller in the historical mystery category.
A somewhat disappointing book. This couldn't possibly be as exciting and wondrous as the first book because it's basically all about the continuing apparent hypocrisy of the council of ten and Albert continuing to be a total asshole.
Add to that Tesni being unreasonable and Red being a total idiot and it's apparent how some parts of this book are nothing but frustrating.
All of this is what Mei goes through, of course, and conveys that all very well. It's just less fun, less interesting and does not show us as many new parts of the world as the first book.
Rather, we find out much more about the history of this society and the history of the Yus.
That it took me longer to get through this speaks for itself. Still looking forward to reading the third book, but less so now. It'll probably be more interesting though, as a lot of it has been set up on this book.
I was disappointed by the second book of the series. The author felt the need to remind us half the first book and that was so incredibly annoying. Also, I feel the price of the books doesn't correspond to the content. The 3 books are actually 1 book and should be sold as one book. And as much as I love the world building and this beautiful planet, the story development simply doesn't deserve 3 books. So I guess I'm not reading the 3d book, unless it sells for $1 or something. It's not just the money, it's that I felt deceived by the fact the second book was so underdevelopped. And it ruined my time-loop theory for the gingers on the planet, so yeah. I'm disappointed.
Definatley a five star story, but this book is only a chapter in the series. There is no conclusion without buying other books. This is a shabby way of selling books. If you don't want to buy the lot, avoid!
The history and secrets revealed in Book 1 of this series are just a start. In this book, that takes place two years after the first, Mei-Lin Yu learns so much more about Ddaera, its people and animals; what happened after the arrival of the ten families and others in the first ten ships from Earth; what happened to the Reachers; and her own abilities. It starts when she’s kidnapped on her way home to Mynyddamore from New Hong Kong. And then there’s Silence, the Snow Leopard, a sentient animal who’s Jaxon’s companion. The book ended before all was revealed and before Mei-Lin discovered what scheme her brother, Albert, is trying to push through the Council. But I would have read the third book anyway.
YA adventure story set on another planet, where some people from earth settled amongst the original inhabitants after Earth's destruction.
Clean, no language. No sex.
Maybe I missed it, but i didn't read any clear description of some of the "characters" whom I thought were people, only to find out they are some sort of sentient creature or animal. The book didn't really grab me, so I've been reading it in spurts over a couple of months. Also, some of the names are so different than usual names, but then are also very similar to each other, that I have a hard time remembering who/what that is and who/what they belong with. Again, this is probably just me since I'm not reading this is one sitting.
The main character is 17 or 18yo, and the leader of her group- of course very unbelievable, although she is mature and leads well. I wish the author just aged her as upper (or even middle) 20's.
I read this as an omnibus that never differentiated when book 2 or 3 transitioned. So I will post a very similar review for book 3 as well and then edit it if i have any further comments.
Really enjoyed this book. Started the series on my Kindle and then got this one form the library. Mei Len continues her growth with her Great grandmother and grandfather. Learning her telepathic skills. She meets Red (Jaxon) who was her great great grandmother's friend on earth who has come through the wormhole 150 years after the original settlers. The Founders have covered up the arrival and Red is trying to rescue the people from the Challenger. Mei Len has problems of her own with her brother and his wanting to do illegal mining.
The second book in the Caelestis series doesn't disappoint! Continuing the complex story of the first book, major surprised keep coming. Having read and appreciated all SciFi genres for over 60 years I am not easily moved to tears but the characters in this series have a solidity and reality that makes them irresistible. I can't wait to read Book 3!
This just feels like a filler book rather than a true continuation of the story. I understand that the writer wants to give more back history, but this reads like a dull academic paper. The price for the Kindle book is off-putting as well, I'm not sure I'm willing to pay a lot for book 3, especially after the quality of book 2.
Highly detailed, this is a story you can really sink your teeth into. Not only does the book tell about what is happening in the present, but it also brings in a lot of the history of New Eden and the genealogy of the Founding Families.
Enjoying the addition of the snowcats! Something makes me think the author may be an Anne McCaffery fan... Getting a wee bit more YAish with the somewhat overly angsty new male character. Having a bit of problem with consistency on the psychic abilities front - but still very enjoyable!
Another good read, with a great surprise following a kidnapping. It is all go for the heroine of the story, but she soldiers on. Her brother is up to no good but just what is unknown. Need to read book three to find out
Second in the series didn't disappoint, it was as un-putadownable as the first. It continues with Meis journey towards adulthood two years after she decides not to go back to the city but to remain in the country. How a meeting with someone she believed dead opens up new dangers & new beginnings
Book two of the Caelestis series starts with a business trip to New Hong Kong followed by a kidnapping and rescue. Lies from the Founders are revealed and people from the past make unexpected appearances. All this leads to the discovery of more secrets and the beginning of a new journey.
