"He was kind, he was caring, and he was loving. And he was mine."
description

Hard Corps is the 7th book in the Selected Sinners Series. Although character crossover exists throughout each book in the series, Hard Corps can be read as a stand alone. description

"Men died. Damned good men. Truly believing any other option was possible, at least while in combat, was unrealistic."
Hard Corps is a moving story of a marine and biker. Alec Jacob served his country faithfully for several tours of duty. Throughout his service, he endured both physical and emotional injuries. Despite the pain, his loyalty to his brothers is unwavering, and his desire to serve his country is his teleios "consummate human integrity and virtue". Before you question my choice of Greek vocabulary, I must clarify that it is truly the only word that I can use to describe the character of this man!
“If we aren’t focused on living life to the best of our ability, we’re slowly dying a death that’s of our own choosing. The odd thing is we get to pick the course we take."

description

When his final tour comes to an end, he returns home to Kansas. However, while he was serving his country, life continued to press on. Things at home were irrevocably changed and Alec "aka A-Train", despite his best efforts, was unable to make things right. He mounts his bike and rides with his MC brothers to Austin, Texas. In the Lonestar State, he finds solace in the friendship of two local boxers and their family. Alec is quickly enveloped by a love he has never experienced before. In addition to his new friends, he is swept away by a blonde haired Texas Cutie named Katie.
"Watching her eat, drink, and even talk was fascinating to me, and as I sat and watched her think while she ate her crust, I tried desperately to determine why I was so interested in her."
Katie and Alec share a unique bond. Both are tentative and careful as they maneuver closer together. Their love is one of endurance and tenderness. Alec and Katie's relationship is like a pendulum swinging between utter passion and purity. Both are sensitive to the needs of the other, and they take their time making a future together.

description
“I don’t want this to end,” she said. I shook my head. “It won’t.”
Told in Alec's POV, Hard Corps is a truly unique read full of heart. This is a story cataloging the life of a soldier. It captures snapshots of moments of joy, pain, growth, happiness, sorrow, and everything in between. The dialogue is natural in every single moment of the text, and the character relationships are critical throughout the development of the plot. Alec is quite complex, and his growth throughout is what kept me engaged the entire read. The underlying theme of Brotherhood is the driving force in the Selected Sinners Series. These men exude honor, respect, and loyalty. They are all unique, and A-Train is just another intricate piece of the puzzle. Hard Corps is written in a naturalistic style that is steady paced and traces over deeply felt emotional subject matter. I applaud Mr. Hildreth for exploring the life of a veteran and displaying the benefits reaped by living an honorable life. I found several personal connections to the characters and situations in Hard Corps which made this read even more sentimental for me. The heavy subject matter paired with the light and funny moments made this a story that I will not forget.

description
"I was no longer at war, and I was no longer in charge of protecting Marines. My solemn duty, at least at the moment, was to protect the people gathered in the waiting room."
description
"One special moment at a time."
description

Overall, I highly recommend Hard Corps to any reader that appreciates the men and women who have bled to protect our country. If you want to be forever changed, read Hard Corps. If you want to be thankful for the blessings in your life, read Hard Corps. If you need to be reminded that although life sometimes doesn't go the way we planned it goes the way it was meant to go (and everything will be ok), read Hard Corps. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this read, and I certainly look forward to more from this author. Bravo Mr. Hildreth! Bravo!

An MC Romance without much MC. This book, no differently than most of the author's books, does NOT follow the typical format for a romance novel. Not at all. And this, but not only this, is why I fell so deeply in love with this book, the characters, and their story.

Alec Jacob has been in all of this author's series' of books, and has made appearances (as a character, of course) when need be, always seeking vengeance against someone who has wronged one of his brethren or a woman.

He lives in a world of black and white as a modern day vigilante war hero, and he has no ability to see things differently than he does.

In his mind he doesn't need to. (I hate to admit it, but I must agree with him).

The book starts out with him going back and forth to deploy in the war in Iraq. A true war hero and a man devoted to his cause, the scenes at war are beyond what I would describe as interesting. It allows us, if at least for a few chapters, to completely fall into the life of a Marine in combat, and see, hear, smell, and experience what they experience.

Upon returning home from the war, his life seems to fall apart, but he never wavers in his convictions.

And, he meets 'the girl'.

The one who makes him take two steps back and wonder if he is really worthy of what it is she offers him.

She, too, is broken.

And together, they figure out a way to repair themselves and live life.

Holy fucking shit.

This book is a roller coaster ride of violence, love, vengeance, bikers, and brothers. But, above all, it is a book of feelings.

Not described feelings...

FEELINGS the reader goes through. Thoughts. Stopping and trying desperately to find out why your heart is racing so much.

This book, more than any other book this author has written, will make you FEEL.

And, in the end, you will probably agree.

Alec Jacob is the best book boyfriend.

Ever.

And you will yearn to find your very own Alec Jacob.

Ten 'I fell in love ten times over' stars.

5 "the last honorable man standing" stars

Sometimes the book leaves me speechless (which is rare) BUT in that one moment of time – when my words just aren't ENOUGH, but I still have the need to express myself in any way I can...even if I won't be able to do any of it justice, I need to try at least, regardless.

I am in awe of the fluently guided mastership of wordscraft that Scott Hildreth seems so easily putting down into the real, abundant gift.

It's a pleasure to be apart of this gift as a reader and to take just a little bit of it as a remembrance that we sometimes have the chance to live out the beauty of life.

From the first page we meet
Alec Jacob - the last honorable man standing!
Ex-Marine that dedicated himself to serve his Country, by protecting it and his people with honor, bravery and respect. He's accurate, truthful and dedicated and so are his actions. He's the man of codes, rules and values.

 photo 3ecd1498-9594-42df-a4f4-656620fddea9_zpskltwjyod.jpg

He's the force that led his men in darkest, desperate and life threathning hours protecting them and keeping them sane and in high moral.
“Enough about dying. Nobody's fucking dying. We're going to stomp in this motherfucker, capture insugents...and then we're going to finish that fucking football game.“

After twelve years of being in a war zone of bloodshed and death, he returns home only to find out that the only truth and value he solemnly cherrished was torn apart and shredded to pieces – his wife cheated on him, by finding comfort in his friend, even after Alec tried to mend things BUT it was already too late.

He takes on a journey, firstly by getting away from it all – the betrayal, the grief and disappointment...
I knew I would always remain methodical and slightly OCD in my behaviours, but I hoped the way I was feeling would remain for a lifetime, allowing me to be at peace with myself, the war, and the decisions I had made.

„I didn't march to the beat of a different drummer, I marched to the beat of my own drummer.“

...only to find himself on another route of self-discovery, where the tight values that shaped him as a man he is today are being enhenced and tested by LOVE, DEDICATION, DEVOTION, HONOR, COURAGE, FORGIVNESS and REDEMPTION along the way and he's bound to reflect on issues of the heart, mind and soul.

While he befriends new people; and their close members of a family that soon becomes his own. He encounters his past being in a „living breathing body“ of his fellow marine that gives him another reason to look at the things beyond the definite lines. He finds his soul and a second chance at love that proved to be just the „right one“ – the only one!

Alec is the connecting piece, he's the glue that holds everyone's lives together without him even realizing it, cause it comes naturally to him, by default even. He's somewhat of a dreamcatcher (chasing the nightmares away) and a dream-provider (making it safe for others to be able to dream) BUT the people surrounding him (his friends Mike "Ripp" Ripton and Shane Dekkar, Mr. and Mrs. Ripton and most importantly Katie, characters that are intercepting Alec's story) are intertwined in Alec's entity as the crucial parts of him that also slowly impact on his behaviour, feelings, ideas and values...

Alec lives by the simple code: “I live in a black and white world. It's either right or wrong.“ and Katie is following the same book only she has a slightly tender touch where she mellows his edges a little bit gently stirring Alec towards the second chances in forgivness and reconciliation with his own father and sister.

 photo abdb5a65-a6a0-4548-8000-b6488576375e_zpsuhsqielq.jpg
“There was no doubt my father loved me. And it was time for me to love him in return"

In interacting with Shane's son Alec forms a special protective bond and finds comfort and solace in anchoring the affection towards a little bundle of joy as a way to handle his regret for a taken connection with his own nephew...and finds a second chance in that...and in his own...

 photo afab123f-b4e1-4ca5-acb3-e3f7deb07dc1_zpsnomh7cbz.jpg

And Katie, in Alec's words:
“She had proven to be one of the most caring, kind, and compassionate women to ever exist.“

 photo bf81fba4-7b57-49d1-afd2-e95fe03040a9_zpsvkoob94l.jpg
“One definition of a fairytale is a story in which improbable events lead to a happy ending.“

Katie was a unique person that experienced an emotional and physical trauma and she needed a person that would bring her a safe haven that would protect her and cherish her, she didn't ask or searched for the knight in shining armour BUT Alec was just that at the given moment - an honorable and noble hero, a protector.
And she was safe...
"Because I knew you'd always protect me."

This is quite simply one take on a life's journey where all segements - people, things, events - come together in guidance by the divine and none of the segments are meant to be, exist, obtain or achieve anything alone...

I will end this gushing with these wise words (from one of the characters in the book):
“If we aren't focused on living life to the best of our ability, we are slowly dying a death that's of our own choosing. The odd thing is we get to pick the course we take...“

I know what I picked.
Bows.

This is book #7 in the Selected Sinners MC seriesbut it can be read as a standalone. So you can get to know Alec Jacob through out this reflective path even if you haven't met him before in other Scott's books.

Gotta give major props to Scott Hildreth for being an amazing writer. The story itself was ehhh okay, to be fair, good. But I couldn't connect with any of the characters. A Train was too good in his thoughts beliefs and position in life. Downright philosophical, not having a single corruptible bone in his body. I don't know if the boredom set in because he didn't act as a hard ass or if the tone quickly resolved any conflicts or issues that came up. But I was bored out of my mind. Yes they're was a cheating wife, quick words was said and problem solved. Yes there was even death on the battle field, but the sense of honor and duty overwritten the dire situation. So patriotic, not that there's anything wrong with that. I just didn't get the feeling of desperation, hopelessness, nothing. Just a man willing to step in the line of fire if it meant saving a fellow Marine.

Hard Corps (Selected Sinners MC #7)

A-Train & Katie

This book is more about Alec “A-Train” Jacobs, I was excited to read his & Katie’s story as I got intrigued with them. However, this is more about A-Train’s backstory and his life in the real world and his struggles.

Alec, is too good to be true, he may have flaws but he is still too good to be true😮 Katie is one lucky bitch 😏

I miss the Sinners here and their interactions..

This is an okay book, I just had a different expectations not really a fan on how the series ended.

When I heard that Scott was writing A-Train's story I was dying to read it. He's been around a bit in other stories, but I so wanted to know more about him. I fell head over heart for him. He's an honorable man. One who fought for his country, but still suffered loss. I was super excited that he would be matched with Katie. Bug so needed a man like him in her life. Best first date request EVER. I love Katie's family and how they just absorb Train into their fold. I loved Train and Katie together. Soul mates. I so enjoyed their story and can't wait for more in this series. Scott rocked this one.

I give Hard Corps 5 hearts!

Another excellent read! Scott Hildreth has done it again! Although, and I know that I'm in the minority here...I wasn't as excited about A-Train as most. What I was excited about was just the fact that I was soon going to be reading another book by SH!
A-Train is a very simple man. He sees life as either black or white. There is no in between. You are a giver or you are a taker. A-Train is most definitely a giver. He is a Military man. His life is to serve, and he does, always. He protects not only his country but also anyone that he loves. And he loves, like no other.
A-Train is not my type of man. I was however looking forward to his book. I needed to know more about him after reading about him in the previous books. He ended up being exactly how I pictured him to be in my mind. Scott always seems to have a great way of making that happen! As in the previous SS series, some parts in this book are repetitive. Which makes it easy to read as a standalone if you have yet to read the rest of the series.
This is a very heartfelt book. It's not a hot steamy sexy book. It's about an honest respectful man and his life. As always, there is a lesson here, a life lesson.
I have read different reviews on this book. I am having an extremely hard time with this review. Is this your typical SH book? IMO, no. It's much deeper than all the others. This author has me all over the place. Sometimes I read his books and I think "what the fuck was that? that just pissed me off!" Other times I think "holy shit that was off the charts sexy!" And then there's the times I cry and cry and cry, And sometimes it's just a feel good, good for my heart book....and that's what this one was for me. Would I recommend this book? Most definitely. I think other than maybe a few books by this author, I have read everything that he has written. He never lets me down. Not that he writes just for me (but let it be known that at one time I mentioned to him that he should just write for me and me alone! Lol) This is why I will always recommend his books to anyone. He will never let you down. You will always and I mean always finish one of his books with a full heart. Great job Scott, not that you need my pat on the back....but for what it counts, you will always be my go to author! Can't wait to see what's next. Get that hoodie washed and get at it! :)

Finally we get A-Train's story and boy was it worth the wait. Alec "A-Train" Jacob is without a doubt one of my favorite characters to date.

From what we've read about A-Train in other books, we know he's a really good man. Well, in Hard Corps we learn just how great a man he is. We get background and scenes from A-Train's time overseas as a Marine. We see how courageous and honest he is. How protecting his men and keeping them safe was more important that his own safety. He's always been a protector and in this story, we get to see a lot of the different ways he protects those he loves. And feelings .... A-Train's feelings run deep. There's so much more to him than the tattooed tough exterior that others see. He's passionate and honest and fiercely loyal to those who earn it.

Katie, Ripp's sister, could not be more perfect for him. She comes from a wonderful family and accepts him with open arms. With what she went through with her ex-boyfriend, A-Train understands her in a way other men would not. With his old school beliefs and tender heart and patience, watching him court Katie was beautiful.

S. Hildreth's books are automatic purchases for me. I mark them on my calendar and read them as quickly as possible. The characters always feel real and always cause me to get lost in the story and ignore the world around me. This was another great book and I cannot wait for more from this author.

Karter, another one of S.H.'s book was included with this purchase. If you haven't already read it, then you'll be getting two outstanding books for the price of one.

There were fictional characters that readers call their book boyfriends. I'm one of them! Mostly because the characters caught our attention with their swoonworthy traits, good looks, their romantic gestures that can melt us into puddles. Whatever criteria we may have set for these characters to be called as such, they steal our hearts.

A-Train, for all intents and purposes, qualified to have such a title. But he was more than that. He deserved not only our hearts but most importantly our respects. No, I didn't swoon over him. I was in awe of him. Definitely admired him. Wished there are more men in the real world with his virtue and integrity.

A-Train had been part of Scott's other series, he was probably best known as the mysterious guy who became friends with Shane Dekker and Ripp. At the end of Unleashed, Scott gave me a reason to have a huge smile on my face.. A-Train showing his intent to date Ripp's sister Katie, otherise known as Bug.

By giving us A-Train's story, Scott opened my eyes to the sacrifices and horrors that our military men had to endure to allow us to sleep soundly at night. It renewed my appreciation for people who choose to live their lives with dignity.

I dare you to read the prologue and see if you can stop yourself from wanting more. Just the prologue, and you will fall in love with Alec Jacob. Read the rest of his story, and you will have a newfound respect for all the men out there fighting for our safety and freedom. Hopefully it will also make you value that very same safety and freedom that so many men sacrificed their lives for.

This book was difficult to put into any category. Was it an MC book? Yes, but it was more than that. Was it about the trials and triumphs of a marine? Yes, but again, it was more. Hard Corps gave me so much more. I've gotten used to the hidden lessons and insights from all of Scott's books, but this one surpassed all my expectations. It made me feel. Oh, the feels!

This book was different in so many ways and I applaud the author for being brave enough to take a gamble, though most likely it wasn't about taking a gamble at all, it was taking a stand and writing what was in his heart. The story had a spiritual undertone that will make you look at life from a different standpoint. It will also give us perspective about love and passion beyond the physical aspects.

Long after I've finished the book, I was still thinking, considering, learning from the story. That's what I loved most about Scott's stories. It doesn't matter if it's about a fighter, a biker, an artist.. I always take so much more than just a satisfying story after I read the word "the end." Because there's never really an end to the message this author wants to impart. You take it with you and hopefully keep it as the words to live by.

Thank you Scott, for sharing the beauty of your heart thru this book. A-Train's story made me feel more appreciative of the things I take for granted; it made me realize that constantly trying to be a better version of myself isn't so hard after all.

There's a handful of characters that just grabs on to my heart that makes me love them forever. Alec A-Train Jacob is one of those characters. His brief but standout scenes when he popped up in Scott Hildreth's Baby Girl and Fighter Series had me hoping he would get his own book. The newest book in the Selected Sinners gives us Alec's story. Hard Corps, made me fall for A-train even more that i did before. You learn so much about his life that it's incredible. A man that commands attention, his word and commitment is life long. The story opens with Alec the solider, trying to survive war in 2003 and make it home to his wife. His journey from there over the years is beyond remarkable and told so well, you're transported into the pages of A-Trains life. It's an emotional and beautiful story about a selfless man, with a big heart, who continuously will rise to the occasion for those he cares about. He will always go out and do what he believes is the right thing to do and has so much conviction about his actions that you'll see things different after seeing them through his eyes. Scott Hildreth delivered a story that is going to stay with me for the rest of my life. I wish there were more than 5-stars, because this is one book that truly deserves it.

Alec Jacob is a hardcore marine, dedicated to serving and protecting his country. After years of tours abroad, Alec finally leaves the marines, to come home to his wife. But he soon finds out that his wife has been having an affair with his best friend and their marriage ends. I was so crossed on this part of the story, I felt horrible for Alec and was hoping so badly that he would meet the one...that one...and then he did, Katie.

Katie has her own demons that follow her path but Alec doesn't see any of that, all he sees is a beautiful girl with a wonderful personality and he falls...hard, as she does.

Love this story, I adored Alec's character, his dedication to his country, his morals, everything about him was perfect.

So I finished the book this morning... I remember in all the promo stuff Hildreth saying this would be his best work yet and I know Scott has never let me down, but damn. Damn….is all I can say.

Now it’s eight hours later and I believe I am finally ready to say what I think about Hard Corps. I am not sure when I made the emotional connection to Hildreth’s work with Sinners, but I have read all of them to date, they topped my 10 of 2015, and yesterday I spent the hours of my evening with Alec Jacob in tears and contemplation. Even on my way to clinicals this morning I couldn’t get it off my mind. I literally had to walk away from the review because I wasn’t ready to say what I needed to say without the feels running from my eyes.

I feel like there is something so much deeper growing in this series than just the basic MC gang plot, drug running, and more than the hot romance and steamy sex and all the other things that we find in other MC or Contemporary romance. I feel like as much as the Sinners have grown and changed, HIldreth’s writing and its purpose have grown as well. I do not speak for Hildreth by any means, but I feel as though a page has turned in my interpretation of these characters and what they mean to me.

I had noticed a significant spiritual undertone to at least the last few books that really spoke to me on the love and protection of God for our family, friends and neighbors. The belief that God was real, and had a real hand in our daily lives. He was able to so beautifully write the plight of the young Marine who has to come to grips with his life’s purpose in the battlefield, “You either put me here to die, or to administer your will” Alec Jacob was okay with either outcome. I felt compelled to meditate on some of the things that Alec said and interpret them into my own life. Statements like “ God is not only understanding and forgiving, he places in front of us all that is necessary to live a peaceful life. At times he may take from us, but he also provides. It is up to us, however, to see exactly what it is he is offering.”

Alec Jacob’s protectors spirit translated into every facet of his life. Whether it be the men he led into battle, Katie, his MC brothers or friends he felt his life’s work was to protect them all at any cost… even if that meant his life. Katie told him “One reason, one big reason I was originally attracted to you? Because I knew you’d always protect me, And I knew you were able.”

This book is also riddled with one liners that broke my heart and some that had me laughing out loud, like “You know, if God was going to give the world an enema, he’d more than likely stick the tube in this sh$%^ little town.” Pretty sure he was referring to my current location.

I know that some will say “It’s just a book” or “There wasn’t enough sex” Or maybe that my emotional response to this book warranted and overdose of Midol. I am telling you that it made me rethink what is sexy… made me appreciate the courtship and friendship that comes with true love and the ingrained necessity of protecting all of those you love. Hildreth may not have meant for Hard Corps to go this deep, but if he did he accomplished his mission with me…So at the end of this emotional rollercoaster I have been riding with Alec Jacob and Scott Hildreth for the last almost twenty four hours I can wipe the “memories” of this book from my eyes and tell you without a doubt...

As much as God looks after all of us… the “Devil looks after his own”

Well, how do I start this – Perspective, one's mental view of facts, ideas, etc., and their interrelationships; the ability to understand what is important and what isn't.
Hard Corps by Scott Hildreth was an amazingly written book by an author who in my opinion cannot be pigeon holed to one genre.
“It’s all too easy to be stuck in a certain mindset about something, and often we can’t convince ourselves to maintain an open mind. This lets me see the exact same thing from a different vantage point. It doesn’t change anything; it just provides a different point of view.” -Alec
For this reader, the story of Alec Jacob expanded my perspective to what I thought I knew and opened my mind to a new understanding on many different levels.

The story starts with, truly in my opinion, some of the most raw, gripping, and page-turning scenes I have ever read from this author. I was transported to a place that instilled in me a completely new admiration for the men and women who serve this country. We are given insight into the character of Alec Jacob, what made him who he was and for this reader, my respect for him increased tenfold.
“Learning how to live a life filled with love wasn’t a natural task for me, and as I turned away and began to walk toward the house, I chuckled at the similarities between Casey and me.” -Alec
There were many wonderful qualities about this character I could go into that bonded me to A-Train. The one that stands out for me most was his faith. I can not help be drawn to the fact that after all that he was brought up against and everything he had seen, “God was there.”

In comes the sunshine of the story, yes that is where my head goes when it comes to Katie Bug Ripton. The relationship that developed between Alec and Katie was in my opinion another example of how Mr. Hildreth is constantly amazing me as a reader. There was a purity and innocence to their relationship, which was beautiful and heartwarming.
“Being with Katie wasn’t something that was expected of me, but it was exactly what I wanted.” -Alec.
Their relationship was built on trust, love, and respect. In my opinion because the basis of what they created was so strong the rest was just gravy.

I cannot walk away from this review without discussing the tie that binds all Hildreth novels in my opinion, the axillary characters. This book was filled to the brim with all my favorite characters from past and it created the perfect fairytale… “a story in which improbable events leads to a happy ending.”

As a reader and as a human I try to never get to comfortable in anything, for me comfort leads to complacency, and if I am complacent how can I grow. This novel is a wonderful example of pushing yourself to looking at what you thought you knew, and opening yourself up to a different perspective. And, I for one want to thank Mr. Hildreth for another opportunity at exercising an open mind. WELL DONE!!! That is it that is all I got…

From the first mentions of A-Train in the Baby Girl and UN series from Scott, I knew he was a man of honor. To have his story come together in his own book was nothing short of an amazing and profound. From the start you go back to the very beginning and learn all there is to know about Alec Jacobs. A Marine, A Son, A Brother, A Friend, and A Man who you want on your side...because above all, he believed that he was here to protect those he loved and his country. His story showed you just how much a Marine, or any serviceman for that matter, faced during war-time and the losses, injuries and fears of going home in a box, came with serving your country. Along the way you see Alec's courage time and time again and when you think he may be passed the point of no return...you realize that God made men like him for a reason, and it wasn't his time to take Alec from us. Some of the heartbreak from loosing his brothers-at-arms and then in his personal life, gives you an in depth glimpse into his heart, and of his mentality to love and grieve with his whole mind, body, heart and soul. The strongest feeling throughout his story is LOVE. Showing the Love of his wife, of his Marine brothers, and then of his MC Brothers. And when push comes to shove, that love spares those who have wronged him, even when he struggles to think otherwise to begin with.
You get to watch him grow and heal and love stronger than the first time around and offer forgiveness to those he felt wronged him. With a more in depth look into the characters of the UN Series, we see what A-Train went through during some of the same events that we gasped at and loved about him in the earlier books. Plus parts where we get a first hand look at what brought him to Texas and getting to know Ripp and Shane. When we see him with everyone at Sunday dinner...we see how much of an old-fashioned gentleman he truly is...He is sweet and loving and the bestest friend anyone could ask for. Watching him with Katie, you can't help but swoon at his gestures and his protective and gentle nature. And with Dek's son, you see a side of him as Uncle A-Train that just melts your heart. Healing happens when you let it, and for A-Train, his journey is ultimately of love and returning to 'normal' as best he can. His values will never change, his outlook is one of honor, and there is NOTHING I would have changed in this book. It's raw, intense, and completely perfectly depicted as only Mr. Hildreth can!
A-Train's story is one I will hold onto for years to come and cherish as one of high values and a true moral compass that doesn't waver. Ooorah!
So stop reading this review, #oneclick this story and get lost in the epicness of Alec Jacobs, A-Train...Once a Marine, Forever a Marine.

I was mesmerized, hurt, mad, sad, happy, this book had me feeling every emotion and more. Scott Hildreth took me on a eye opener, emotional roller-coaster. I got an in depth look from the fighting lines and was knocked on my ass. I've never felt so drawn into a story like I was with this one I hurt for A - Train I was scared, pissed as if I was there fighting with him, but I kinda of understood the fight on the home front to, but it never compares to what service men do for us.
Alec Jacob is a war hero, but he is also a man who feels he needs to make his life right. His killed many with being in war and if he can save just one life from being taken then he's turning he's life around and having important people in your life makes it possible to want to be better, to give second chances. Alec's life hasn't been easy fighting in war, going through a divorce but once he meet Rippton and the gang he gets a since of family again , somthing to live for especially when he meets Katie , Mikes sister. Katie has experience pain and knows how important life is and to want to protect it. When she talks to Alec she sees so much more than a man who has killed, she sees a man who will protect what he cares about at no cost. I could go on about this book but it wouldn't make sense cause really you would have to read it to understand the felling , the description of Alec's life on the fighting lines is as real as you can get with out being there, every word so vivid I felt like I was there , to have a young man come from the pits of hell , to want nothing more but goodness and helping people have second chances., to sweet, loving and bad ass wrapped in one. I love all of Scott's book and Mike Rippton WAS my favorite but Alec A-Train Jacobs is by far by favorite now. amazing job, I just hope I do it justice with this review and this story deserves way more than a 5 star.

I am new to the Selected Sinners world. Alec's book is just my third, but it's my favorite I think. Just because A-Train's story is so original. So heartfelt and so touching.
Alec is a Marine thru & thru. Being a soldier isn't just what he does...it's what and who he is.
As I'm sure with most men who serve their country; Alec's life - his whole world is put through a sh*tstorm.
As I began this book I found myself falling hard for this soldier, this man, who puts so much of himself on the line for the people he cares for: For strangers he's never met.
I admired Alec and his ability to stand firm in his beliefs and to believe in his own abilities. I also enjoyed his inner dialogue very much.
You don't get much sweeter than Katie and it was entertaining as he** to watch her wrap a bad ass Marine around her finger. But mostly I was happy that Alec found some sweetness in Katie.
Alec's and Katie's old fashioned beliefs was so refreshing and wonderful. This world could use a whole lot more of those kind values.
And the Sunday dinners made me laugh so hard I cried.
Hard Corps isn't just another good installment to The Selected Sinners series. This book is the heart and soul of a good man struggling to come to grips with things that he's done and to understand that its okay to need someone sometimes. That it's okay to forgive yourself.
Scott Hildreth gives us a story so different and so touching and so honest, it's impossible to put down.
(I might've swore a little when I reached the end just because I didn't want it to be over.)

I have followed this series and I am a fan of this authors writing. I am a proud mom of a Marine, so once I saw the synopsis to this book it was only natural I would jump. This story is not that much on the MC side but more of A-Trains years in the Marines and his many tours of duty. A-Train's story is so moving and touching his need to be out there fighting for his country and to be there with the members of his team was exceptional. The authors words he used to describe a scene in Fallujah or in Afghanistan stole my breath away. This story deals with the loss, deaths and sacrifices men and women make to keep our country safe. A-Train sacrifices so much and when he comes back he is still fighting his way.

Thai isn't you're typical Scott Hildreth book. If you're looking for hot and steamy this book isn't for you. This is a book about A-Train. His life as a marine. Then his life as a civilian. He's set in his ways, old fashioned, proper, and kind of lonely until he makes his own family from friends. Then as he heals and falls in love. I feel like the romance part wasn't really romance. But I loved reading about him. What he was thinking. Why he thought the way he did. We replay some of the scenes from previous books but with A-Train's perspective. We get Ripp, Ripp's hilarious family dinners, Shane, and his love for Casey. Again, this is not erotica nor a "romance" book. But if you want to read about a complicated but truly good man, this is for you.

When I started reading this book, I was watching Steve Harvey's show, and there was a Marine on there. I didn't catch exactly why he was on there but im sure it was for an award. Steve said, "Anybody that serves in the military that they are cut from a different cloth, that they can handle and do what we that do not serve in a military can't do! I believe that! And for those that are/have /had serve or have family... THANK YOU! When I think of this quote (and is not word for word) I think of A-Train! he has A BIG HEART! all the guys do but A-Train... he is...well... Cut from a different cloth! He has so many qualities and so much to offer and I'm glad he is able to share that with Katie!

I've just finished and I'm sitting here trying to gather my thoughts. How on earth do you describe feelings of absolute contentment? Is is pure joy? Or bliss? I'm thinking simple elation. I've just taken a journey that was not only riveting but wildly spiritual and I just don't know if I'll ever stop smiling.

What Scott Hildreth has written is nothing short of perfection. He really seemed to look within himself for this one. A story that on it's face is about an ex-Marine, who needs to find his purpose in life. That ex-Marine is Alec Jacob, also known as A-Train. A man of honor who plays by the rules of life and love and never makes excuses. Although I would have figured him a hard man for all the death and destruction he saw in his time at war, beneath that rugged exterior is a gentle soul who loves kids and his fellow man. But it is his relationship with a higher force, his God, that makes him stand out.

Believe me, there is no shortage of detailed accounts of wartime in Iraq. In addition there is great humor with A-Train trying to figure out the rest of his life and the sudden family he becomes a part of when he relocates to Texas. With Ripp and Dekk, I found myself chuckling out loud on more than one occasion. But with the woman he claims as his own, his Katie, also known as Bug, he begins to finally feel again and realizes that there are forces greater than his own who are guiding his destiny.

I'm not one to embrace insincere spirituality. But wow. The messages in Hard Corps. The way Alec is drawn to the workings of his soul made me completely breathless at times. I'm not trying for dramatics but once you read these remarkable words, I'm certain you will feel the same.

Hard Corps is a story like no other. Probably the most unique of the Selected Sinners books. A series I have embraced with this installment quite possibly the crowning achievement.

Very highly recommended. A huge 5+++ stars.

Fans of Scott Hildreth have been clamoring to get the whole story on A-Train. He shows up in each of Scott’s series and always brings a unique perspective to the action in whatever book he is in. It’s taken me most of the day to organize my thoughts enough to write this review.

Honestly, this is Scott Hildreth, people, the man blows me away each time I pick up his books! Hard Corps brings us the life and times of Alec Jacob aka A-Train. The story is told in his point of view from the time he is 18 up until the present. It covers all of the story lines he has been a part of in other books but again, from his point of view. This book can be a stand-alone, however, I really feel that those who have come to know A-Train will get so much more out of this story than those meeting him for the first time.

The book brings together so many elements---military, MC, boxer/fighter, coming of age, romance ---really fits the needs of a lot of readers. We see other characters we have come to love: Erik, Slice, Dekk, Ripp and their ladies. That said, what the book says between the lines is where the reader will get all the feels. Alec is a man profoundly changed by his circumstances. He is a man of strong convictions and a true guardian and friend to those he brings close. His respect for children and families will bring you to your knees. What I found myself marveling at was his voice. I have read the other series he is part of and to be able to not only tie in his story lines to this book, but to keep him in character, speaks to the phenomenal writing style of this author. No doubt in my mind, this book was about the A-Train we all know.

Once again, thank you Scott for bringing the reader this profound study of the human condition. For showing us not only what beliefs and desires make a man, but also what it means to be truly loved. Bravo!

5-STARS
I would give more if I could!

Once in a while, if you are very very lucky a book will touch you in such a profound and powerful way that you will be forever changed. Hard Corps is one of those books!

If you have read any of Scotts other books then you probably already know (and love) Alec Jacob a.k.a. A-Train. Although this is truly a stand alone he has been in quite a few other books. He's a marine through and through. Tough, rugged, powerful and sexy as sin. Returning home from deployment he finds out that his wife is cheating on him and divorces her. He is sort of just drifting for a while trying to re-acclimate himself to civilian life, and then he meets a woman who makes him come alive!

I have been a fan of A-Train for a very long time and so I was overjoyed when I found out we would finally be getting his story. I knew it was going to be a fantastic book, but what I didn't expect was just how much it affected me. Some how the stars aligned just right and the universe made it possible for this specific author to create this specific character and the result it one of the best books I have ever read. Not this month, or this year, EVER. It is a bit different from Scott's other works, but it works so well. The writing is superb. The story flows very smoothly. You are able to really dive into the story. They stop being characters and become very real. Tears will flow as you read so make sure you have tissues handy. You heart will break for him but then when he is happy your heart will soar. Most of this authors characters have very strong moral codes and that has never been more true than with A-Train. It may not always be what others consider right but he stands strong in his beliefs. He is the kind of man other men need to aspire to be.

I know that I am a better person for having read this story.

Everything you've heard or seen about Hard Corps, throw it out the window. ANYTHING you've seen or heard truly can't do this book justice. Grab your comfy chair an settle in for a nice long read.

If your a fan of Scott Hildreth's, the first thing to know is this book is unlike any other. And even though it's not full on MC or littered with dirty sex scenes, it by far is my favorite book he's written.
Alec Jacob aka A-Train, is the most complex and alluring of all the characters so far. His story is such a mixed bag. I felt pride for the man he is, sad for what he'd been through and amazed at how he handles it all and through everything, when any other man would give up, he maintains his faith and goals, his ability to cope and still be the virtuous man that he is is astounding.
Each new obstacle put before him he overcame with grace, faith and and unyielding will to move ahead.
He's loyal, fights for what he believes, protects those he loves and the innocent.
He's been through some horrific battles but came out stronger and never forgot who he was or what his goals were.
The author pulls you into Alec's world, enchanting the reader and completely overtaking your mind until the very last page. I could not put this book down, I hated stopping to answer the door.

If I continue to write I'm sure I'll give something away and I despise spoilers so I'll say Hard Corps is the one Hildreth book you must read if you haven't read him before, if you have then your in for a different kind of ride but in my opinion an much more captivating than any of his books I've had the privilege to read.

WOW Oh WOW! Scott Hildreth did it again!!! Actually I think he went above and beyond with this one, By far his best in my opinion.
Finally we have A-Trains story and I have to say it was worth the wait. So call in sick, Send the kids to grandma just do whatever you need to, but make sure you put up your do not disturb signs as you settle in for this read.
Scott really takes you on a life Journey with A-Train, he is a hero, a lover, a biker, a fighter and above all a REAL MAN.
This book is an emotional ride of A-Trains journey through coming home from war to finding himself again and starting over when everything he knew before was not as it seemed,
I love Alec and Katie and love the development of this relationship and the way A-train was taken into the family, I love the relationship with Mike and how things develop throughout this Raw story.
Scott Hildreth really gives you the feels with Hard Corps and I laughed, Cried and was on the edge of my seat.
I don’t want to say too much as feel this book must be read to understand the emotion and the feels but this as always with Scott’s books is an absolute must read from me.

A-Train was such a true telling of a career military gentleman. This book takes you through twelve heartbreaking years of Alec Jacob"s life. The loyalty he shows to not only his Marine brother and also those under his command is so empowering you can't help but respect him. I'm not sure personally if I would have been able to continue through all the years of loss of those he watched fall in time of war.

I truly enjoyed reading a different version of a military vet returning home and how he re acclimated to life as a civilian, although the author didn't go into to many details he made sure you understood that you don't just flip a switch back to civilian life. He takes you on a journey that doesn't happen in anything less than years and months as he nurtures real relationship and finds the love of his life. With true gentleman qualities and the want and need to have a family and live a forever kind of love. I'm so glad I read this book it's another win for SD Hildreth.
