"He was kind, he was caring, and he was loving. And he was mine."

"Men died. Damned good men. Truly believing any other option was possible, at least while in combat, was unrealistic."Hard Corps is a moving story of a marine and biker. Alec Jacob served his country faithfully for several tours of duty. Throughout his service, he endured both physical and emotional injuries. Despite the pain, his loyalty to his brothers is unwavering, and his desire to serve his country is his teleios "consummate human integrity and virtue". Before you question my choice of Greek vocabulary, I must clarify that it is truly the only word that I can use to describe the character of this man!
“If we aren’t focused on living life to the best of our ability, we’re slowly dying a death that’s of our own choosing. The odd thing is we get to pick the course we take."
"Watching her eat, drink, and even talk was fascinating to me, and as I sat and watched her think while she ate her crust, I tried desperately to determine why I was so interested in her."Katie and Alec share a unique bond. Both are tentative and careful as they maneuver closer together. Their love is one of endurance and tenderness. Alec and Katie's relationship is like a pendulum swinging between utter passion and purity. Both are sensitive to the needs of the other, and they take their time making a future together.

“I don’t want this to end,” she said. I shook my head. “It won’t.”Told in Alec's POV, Hard Corps is a truly unique read full of heart. This is a story cataloging the life of a soldier. It captures snapshots of moments of joy, pain, growth, happiness, sorrow, and everything in between. The dialogue is natural in every single moment of the text, and the character relationships are critical throughout the development of the plot. Alec is quite complex, and his growth throughout is what kept me engaged the entire read. The underlying theme of Brotherhood is the driving force in the Selected Sinners Series. These men exude honor, respect, and loyalty. They are all unique, and A-Train is just another intricate piece of the puzzle. Hard Corps is written in a naturalistic style that is steady paced and traces over deeply felt emotional subject matter. I applaud Mr. Hildreth for exploring the life of a veteran and displaying the benefits reaped by living an honorable life. I found several personal connections to the characters and situations in Hard Corps which made this read even more sentimental for me. The heavy subject matter paired with the light and funny moments made this a story that I will not forget.

"I was no longer at war, and I was no longer in charge of protecting Marines. My solemn duty, at least at the moment, was to protect the people gathered in the waiting room."

"One special moment at a time."

“Enough about dying. Nobody's fucking dying. We're going to stomp in this motherfucker, capture insugents...and then we're going to finish that fucking football game.“
I knew I would always remain methodical and slightly OCD in my behaviours, but I hoped the way I was feeling would remain for a lifetime, allowing me to be at peace with myself, the war, and the decisions I had made.
„I didn't march to the beat of a different drummer, I marched to the beat of my own drummer.“
“There was no doubt my father loved me. And it was time for me to love him in return"
“She had proven to be one of the most caring, kind, and compassionate women to ever exist.“
“One definition of a fairytale is a story in which improbable events lead to a happy ending.“
"Because I knew you'd always protect me."
“If we aren't focused on living life to the best of our ability, we are slowly dying a death that's of our own choosing. The odd thing is we get to pick the course we take...“
