DNA and social media postings will determine who will survive, in this science fiction techno-thriller.
Alex Cave, an Ex-CIA operative now geophysics consultant for NASA at Area 51, meets an archaeologist named Mya Austin, who tells him about a prophecy found in an ancient cave drawing belonging to the Sioux Nation. He is intrigued, but declines Mya’s offer to visit the dig site because of a pressing family issue. A rift had formed between him and his nineteen-year-old nephew Derek, and it was like a dagger through his heart.
Geneticist Zane Simon’s amazing discovery will save the lives of a select number of humans, but there is no hope for the other seven billion. The problem will be keeping it a secret.
When the Sioux prophecy comes true, Alex, Derek, and Mya are among the lucky few who qualify for Zane’s program and will be saved, but Alex is torn between saving his family and friends by joining the chosen ones, or trying to avert an apocalyptic disaster for the rest of humanity. The odds of success are small and the choice almost too much to bear.
Hello. I’m James M. Corkill, a Veteran, and retired Federal Firefighter from Washington State, USA. I was an electronic technician and studied mechanical engineering in my spare time before eventually becoming a firefighter for 32-years and retiring. I’ve since settled into the Appalachian Mountains of western North Carolina, and I have a fantastic view from my writing desk.
I began writing in 1997, and was fortunate to meet a famous horror writer named Hugh B. Cave, who became my mentor. In 2002, I rushed to self-published a dozen copies of Dead Energy so my wife could see my book before she was taken by cancer. When my soul mate was gone, I stopped writing and began drinking heavily.
My favorite quote. “When you wake up in the morning, you never know where the day will take you.”
In 2013, I met a stranger who recognized my name and had enjoyed an old copy of Dead Energy, except for the ending. When she encouraged me to start writing again, I realized this chance meeting was just what I needed to hear at the right moment. I quit drinking and began the rewrite of Dead Energy into The Alex Cave Series, and I’m thankful for that fateful encounter.
This is an exciting sci-fi thriller, the 6th book in this series which I have read entirely. Each book is an amazing thrill ride adventure. Main character, Alex Cave, a geologist, is always determined to save the world. However, two human-appearing aliens, Vesta and Paul, arrive in their space module at Zane Simon's DNA laboratory. They inform Zane of a comet which is Earth bound, and it will destroy the entire planet. She and her partner want to save 500 humans so they can colonize another planet similar to Earth. Meanwhile, Alex Cave meets archaeologist Mya Austin who has discovered in a cave a 2,500 year-old drawing which predicts the Earth's destruction this year. However, the 500 people must meet certain DNA requirements and be in their best health. When Alex meets Vesta at Zane's laboratory, she has an instant dislike for Alex. And, Alex does not believe everything which Vesta has promised. He and his friends have to verify the facts about the comet, its location, and evaluate a possible realignment or destruction of the rapidly moving comet. This is a novel which will stun you. You'll love the characters, the fast-paced story line, and feel like you are joining Alex at his back to save our world. This is definitely a thrill-ride for you through our universe. Highly recommend this story which is suitable all ages of readers.
I love this main character. He is optimistic to an almost unrational degree. This book is well worth reading. I enjoyed the story even though I knew Alex would fix the problem, I had to find out how.
After reading "Dead Energy" I was hocked by James Corkill's writing style. And he delivered again and again with "Cold Energy", "Red Energy", "Gravity", "Pandora's Box" and now with "DNA", the sixth book in the Alex Cave Series.
"DNA" is a masterpiece. If you thought that the story of our hero, an ex-CIA agent named Alex Cave, could not get better, you were completely wrong. The author keeps raising the bar, as if it was possible at all.
As usual, we can see that a lot of research was done by the author in order to create a very intelligent and believable plot. This time, an imminent catastrophic event is set to destroy life on earth. And Alex is just there, in the middle of all action, with his friend Okana and other new characters that run against time to unravel the mystery behind the appearance of a rock in the middle of an indian (Sioux Nation) reserved area. When plan to save humanity goes sour, it is up to Alex to find a plan B in order to prevent the disaster that would destroy more than seven billion lives.
You definitely should try James Corkill's books. His intelligent plots are here to stay. There are lots of brilliant sequences in action, some dose of romance and all the good ingredients that make this book a must read for all fiction lovers that want to spend some hours entertained.
Although they are completely independent books, I recommend that you read all of them in the order they were published, so you can know the characters better and savor each detail of all the books. I recommend this series to the permanent library of all science-fiction readers. They will not be disappointed.
This book was written by James M.Corkill and I received an electronic version for reviewing. I was not requested to provide a positive review. Opinions expressed here are my own.
Great entertainment. If you haven't read any of the Alex Cave series, give yourself a treat and pick one up. Corkill's blend of space science, aliens, dystopian possibilities, and believable character is spot on.

First, let me make a note to all other readers who are about to embark on this latest Alex Cave adventure. You absolutely have to read the first 5 Alex Cave books first, otherwise you will be completely lost as to who is who and what exactly is going on. This book ties in closely with several of the other books, so before you read this book, make sure you've read the previous books. Now, with that being said, this is of the same caliber of a novel as all the previous Alex Cave adventures, so if you've loved the previous stories, you'll love this one too. It starts off a little slow and you're trying to figure out what direction the author is taking the characters in this story, but about halfway through, the author starts throwing twist after twist at you. All of a sudden, you get sucked in and can't stop reading because you have to find out what happens next. The ending was...meh, all right. It kind of reminded me of the ending of Tom Cruise's War of the Worlds movie. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about. Overall, it was a good read and I would recommend it if you enjoy sci-fi or eco sci-fi. I anxiously await the next Alex Cave adventure.
The 6th book in the Alex Cave Series places Alex on an archeological dig that Native American lore says periodically experiences supernatural phenomena. Of course, aliens are behind it!
This was probably my least favorite of the Alex Cave series. Although interesting, I felt that it borrowed too much from other sources of science fiction rather than striking out in uncharted territory. Without giving too much away, there were sequences very similar to Star Trek -- and not my favorites, either -- dealing with temporal anomalies.
Perhaps because of the similarities, perhaps because it seem rather formulated, I felt that this story was rushed and not as developed as the previous books.
Still, it was an enjoyable read, but a lacking in interesting twists. I do recommend it, but be warned, it doesn't shine as bright!
In this latest adventure of CIA officer-turned-NASA-consultant Alex Cave, Corkill impressively juggles a number of themes. This page-turning thriller deals with Area 51, ancient prophecies from the Sioux Nation, and the moral conundrum of saving the few rather than the many. All in all, an excellent read from a clearly gifted author.
DNA. (Alex Cave, #6), my seventh read from author James M. Corkill. Well-written & captivating with well-developed main characters reminding one of Christopher Cartwright’s Sam Reilly writings but obviously I'd missed something by having read Parallel (Alex Cave#7) out of order. The storyline has taken even more of a sci-fi/alien twist and this book got me up to speed. "I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
