Torin

Rate this book
Torin’s anxiety has made it difficult for him to navigate romantic relationships, so instead of trying, he keeps himself occupied with his work. But just because he doesn’t chase relationships doesn’t mean he doesn’t want something, even if he has to get it with a dash of taboo.

At Pillar, the only all-male brothel in the city, Torin makes an appointment with a charming sex worker who goes by the name “Davies.” It becomes hard for Torin to keep his emotions out of the intimacy, and his feelings become more complicated when a designer he works with starts to let on that his interest is more than platonic.

Holy F! This novella was aaaaamazing! And a newbie author to boot!? I'm BEYOND impressed!!

Please read my warnings before picking up this book. This story will NOT be for everyone!!

I honestly grabbed this book on a whim, which is sort of out of character. For one, I don't love taking chances on new authors, and I'm also not a huge fan of the rent boy/prostitute storyline. But honestly, this was the score of the year for me. It was EXACTLY my tastes!

Here is what you need to know before deciding if you want to try this book. Because there are no content warnings, it is important to know if the kinks in this book are right for you.

This is NOT a romance. There is a budding romance, of sorts, in the story, but there is no one on earth that would call this a romance. It is strictly erotica. We never even learn Davies's real name.

The MC, Torin, is not monogamous during the story. That might be a small spoiler, but it is a very, very crucial one for readers. Even though this isn't a romance, some readers may be put off by multiple partners, even in erotica. Know that fact going into the story.

Humiliation kink!! As far as kinks go, humiliation kink is probably my favorite. Slut, bitch, whore... yeah, that's my kind of dirty talk! There is so much delicious humiliation here. Cum play, tease and denial, degradation... I was in HEAVEN. But, of course, this isn't the kink that everyone likes.

Virgin, alert! Ah, yes, my beloved virgins. If you like an inexperienced MC, you get one here! We get the delicious combo of dirty and blushing newbie, and I ate that right up!!

To top it off, this story is written beautifully. The sex builds and builds over time, getting more and more bold and more and more explicit. While there isn't a romance between Torin and Davies, there are really tender moments that made me want to know more about Davies and what motivates him.

While some may find parts of the story slightly morally objectionable, I viewed this story as strictly erotica and I absolutely loved it. This story is going right to my favorites list.

A beautiful novella - the story of Torin, a nervous anxious virgin to him becoming a more confident lover with the support of Davis. A discovery of kinks, passion and simply letting go... I really hoped these two might hook up ( very Pretty Woman of me ) but this was just a peek into Torin's journey and the beauty of Davis supporters him in learning about himself. Really enjoyable, very well written ❤️

There were some promising aspects to this book but the delivery fell short. Because the blurb is so vague, and I thought it was something different to what it ended up being, I'll add here that this novella is essentially gay erotica... but not. It's a tad confused about what it is, and the overuse of the word whore in a most hypocritical way toward a sex worker Torin was paying to explore sex with was off-putting. A bit like people watching porn and dissing the adult performers.

Some other reviewers seem to have gotten right into this book, so maybe it's a case of me?

The sky fairy knows I love some good kink but this really didn't hit the mark.

First and foremost, this is NOT a romance. This is pure erotica and does not have a HEA. I enjoyed the concept of Torin and seeing Torin's character development as he grew from a shy, awkward, self-conscious man to a man who knew how to ask for what he wanted and was no longer ashamed of his kinks. It would have been nice if the reader was provided with some type of explanation for why Torin acted the way he did, however, whether it stemmed from just being shy, abuse, etc. Surprisingly, I found myself liking Davies (the sex worker) more than the main character. I realize the story wasn't meant to be about Davies but I would have loved to have known more about him. Where this went wrong for me is probably more of a "me" thing and may not bother other readers. . The other aspect that bothered me and the main reason I rated lower was due to the excessive number of times Torin called Davies a whore. I think it was meant to add to the taboo aspect but IMO wasn't necessary. I don't know if I would classify what happened as slut-shaming, as Torin calls himself a slut many times as well as asking Davies to similarly degrade him, but each occurrence took me out of the story and ultimately lowered my enjoyment. For a debut novel, I think the author did a good job and I would like to read more from them.

Torin is plagued with anxiety. He's cut himself off socially and has immersed himself into work. He decides to seek a professional for help. Only not through traditional means.

Torin becomes a member of an all male brothel and hires Davies to help him unwind.

This story was such an inspiration and aphrodisiac at the same time. Loved it.

I knew going into this book that it leaned more toward erotica and the book delivers on that. The story of Torin is not relationship driven and this is not the story of finding true love with an escort. Torin and Davies have an intimate, yet strictly professional, relationship that works because it works for Torin. But this may not be the book for everyone if you are looking for a relationship to develop between the men.

As an erotic book, it works…mostly. Torin is anxiety ridden and nervous and stammering and inexperienced and it will depend if you like to read about those kinds of characters. For me, Torin did start to wear on me after a while and I may have been more interested in getting Davies story, but that’s not the book. The book takes us through six sessions that Torin has with Davies and each session increases in intensity of what Torin is looking for. He’s a virgin and has a lot of hang-ups and each session fulfills another fantasy of Torin’s.

This story went in a totally different direction than I expected. I assumed that Torin would end up with If you're looking for an erotic story, give this one a try.

I couldn’t find my way into this novella. While I tend to love stories like Asking For It, part of the Salt of Your Tears by M. Caspian, Torin just never jived with me. This story evolves through a series of encounters between Torin- a shy, insecure, sexually awkward guy and Davies- a prostitute- mentor.
I found this story mechanical- slot meets peg- each encounter advancing towards NOTHING. Skip this.
