“The Eden Experiment” the second book in “The Tomorrow Gene” opens after a fire ripped through Eden and Ephraim Todd is blamed for the catastrophe that claimed thousands of lives. Desperate to prove his innocence to GEM’s (Committee for Oversight and Evolvable Machines) Chair Herschel Wood and the existence of clones on the island, the story heats up with the disappearance of his evidence and Sophie Norris’s reluctance to testify.

In a psychological thriller as Ephraim fights for his freedom and his sanity, he starts to hunt for Sophie’s clone while struggling to juggle his allegiance to Fiona Roberson and Herschel Wood. What he doesn’t know is that another force is pulling his strings from Eden’s underground labs.

Fast-paced and tension-filled, the plot twists and turns as background information about Jonathan and Fiona’s relationship at UCLA is revealed; Ephraim can’t trust his recollection of his past; and his reality is jarred when he meets another Ephraim on Eden. Well-developed and intoxicating the story keeps you on the edge of your seat until the shocking ending that begs for another book.

Among the compelling characters that bring this story to life is an Ephraim Todd who’s become unpredictable, and highly paranoid. Afraid and insecure about his identity, he doesn’t sleep and pops pills to do so. Continually he reiterates that clones are humans with hijacked memories who’ve been conditioned to be obedient, especially the replicas of the rich and famous sold as sex slaves. Fiona Roberson continues to be calculating and bullying, Herschel Wood unreasonable and Neven Connelly shrewd and devious.

I liked “The Eden Experiment” and will continue to follow this thrill-ride to see which Ephraim Todd (real or clone) survives.

This is the second book in a series and, while the writing is just as superb, the concept wore me down. Ephraim's mind is being interfered with such that he can't trust his own recollection of events. In the first book the reader wasn't certain what was going on and cheered for Ephraim as he fought his way through, but in this book the reader ends up as confused as Ephraim. The writing is good and the plot is engrossing but the confusion was too much for me. I gritted my teeth and read to the end to find out how it turned out, but I'm not buying the next book. This is the first book I've read by these guys I didn't like.

I am always looking for new sci fi writers. Sean Platt has an interesting concept (cloning) that he develops in his series (The Tommorw Gene). It drags a little in Book 2 what with all the characters to follow: none clones & clones. The promising implied relationships between leading characters were pretty much sacrificed to the action with a cliff-hanger at the end. Nevertheless a good read.

I just finished the second book and I'm more confused than ever, but curious to see how the rest of the story plays out. Another major mind twister by Platt and Truant that had me in suspense and just when I thought I had it all figured out, it left me stunned and wondering what could possibly happen to Ephraim next.

Good part 2

This book is a continuation of a good story line. While it answers some questions, it poses new ones. It makes you want to continue reading the story to get the answers. On to book 3 and the final answer.

Good story

This was a good continuation of the first book in the series. Ephraim’s ongoing battle with confusion and insecurities is getting a little trite but I have to see where the story goes.

Wonderfully confusing! I love the combination of and unreliable narrator in a fast-paced sci-fi thriller. One of my favorites from the Platt and Truant author duo.

The angst of the main character irritated me, but the story line itself is very good

Second in this series and was well worth the time to read.
If you understand that this is just a great adventure and try not to get to hung up on the science behind everything that is going on, it makes for a great exciting read. So far I have been pleased with the way this whole fiasco is going. I am in it to the end...
