I don't usually review fanfiction here but since I am currently in a deep, deep Wizarding World hole after a long time, fanfiction is all I am reading. I know my way around Marauders fanfiction but this time, after finishing the series, I felt like I wanted the story to continue. And honestly, I only read canon-compliant fics. I was glad when I found Flo's fics - they really know how to write post-war Harry. It shows that they have understood his character very well and the way he acts and speaks is the closest I have seen to canon Harry. Ideally I would love for him to have a peaceful life after all he has been through but as Flo points out, for someone who has been fighting dark wizards since 11, it's going to be at least a little bit difficult to imagine doing something else at least for a bit. That, combined with his fear of losing his loved ones and his (often harmful) belief that it is his duty to protect everyone he can, makes for a compelling character.

I think I also enjoyed this fic because I have limited myself to kidlit, YA, and romance for so long (even if out of choice) that a thriller was just a breath of fresh air. I was addicted from the first chapter and though it was not hard to guess the twist, it was still incredibly enjoyable. In fact, Flo's twist comes right in the middle and the action packed second half of the fic is just as if not more - addictive. It's clear that they have thought a lot about this world and there must have plotted this out chapter wise for it to work so well.

Yet another refreshing part is their Original Character (or OC). When I read her name - Theia Higglesworth - I thought "here we go again", expecting another faultless and beautiful-and-smart-but-doesn't-realize-own-worth OC (not that I don't enjoy those fics and characters too). But Theia is well-written and pretty realistic and has faults that have deep and lasting consequences. I love the Theia-Harry pairing - difficult as they are with each other at the beginning, by the end I see a lot of love and care in this relationship. There is a sequel and you can bet that I'm reading it asap.

While the story was moderately compelling and engaging throughout, the final nail in the coffin for me was the sloppy and uninspired ending to this book.

A good enough read for some light entertainment, especially if you're looking for your Harry Potter fix; but not a novel I'd be likely to recommend to a friend.

I liked this, except how they did Ginny so wrong. In the Original books she is a badass, independent woman. If you wronged her she would retaliate or brush it off. In this book she is an insecure, weak woman. She would NEVER ask Harry to leave his passion, his job. And Ron leaving before even Neville? Questionable choice to me but overall an enjoyable read.

look away 😁👍🏽

yes im reading harry potter fanfiction instead of real books, but we’re not going to discuss it. this was a decent story and the only reason i’m adding it here is because it was fairly long for fanfiction and it makes me feel better for not reading for so long lmao
