I've been writing stories since I was twelve years old, and have loved every minute of it. I'm just now starting my journey toward publication as I've recently become a stay-at-home-mom and decided it's time to really do something with my work. I always tell myself that if my book can encourage one person, I would be happy. However, I'd love to be able to encourage as many people as possible through my books.

Though my education credentials are in the health sciences, I have always loved being creative and building stories that would not only connect with readers, but would also leave people with a lasting impression of God's grace through the lives of my characters.  No matter what the time or place of my books, rest assured, the love of Christ is shown in a way that I am confident honors God and the message of the Bible.

In addition to writing, I love to crochet, as well as participating in various sports: paddle boarding, cross country skiing, hiking, and biking.

So, before I talk about her book, here is where she can be found. She has a lovely website set up HERE where you can learn about her current books and find her blog posts.
Now, about her book. Defiant is set in a dystopian world where all technology fell apart after the Last War and religion is banned. Gabriel lives in this world, fighting to provide for his family - which consists of his sisters and a whole little village hidden away - while still trying to practice his faith which could get him killed.
Gabe meets Rosie during one of his trips to get supplies for his family and is instantly fascinated by the look of hope in her eyes. When his actions to help Rosie get her in deeper trouble Gabe saves her and takes her back to his village where she is taught the love of God, only to be forced to decide if she too is willing to give up her life for her new found beliefs.
I saw this story come such a long way from its rough draft and I am so excited for it and the hopes it will get to see the world soon. The hope and faith in this story, and the excitement Gabe feels when he gets a real Bible, is a wonderful reminder to hold dear our own freedom of religion and a reminder that it is worth dying for.
I am also excited to follow Grace on her writing journey and pleased that this journey has brought into my life such a special friend.
So you should pop by Grace's website, have a look around, and say hi. She has three books with summaries on her site and each sounds wonderful.

Defiant is a beautifully written engaging story that draws you in and then delivers a powerful illustration of what Christ did for each of us on the cross. This book is worth reading not only once, but many times! The author does an incredible job intertwining scripture throughout the story and brings it to life. Grace, love, compassion and a life surrendered to Christ are just a few of the many treasures within this captivating story. Defiant is an awe inspiring story that leads us to look internally at our own lives, to stop and to pray. You will be blessed to read this exciting adventure as the characters try to preserve their faith in a world that seeks to destroy them. You'll have a hard time putting it down and you'll want to share this story with everyone that you know....family, friends, neighbors, and more!

This was an amazing book that showed how family love and faith in God can get you through anything!! I cried and laughed throughout the book....couldn't put it down a lot of the time!! Gabriel and his family had a faith in God that was so encouraging. It was so awesome how they risked their lives every day to spread the Word of God!! My favorite part was how Gabriel showed us how to love...not only God but also the woman of his dreams. He was so caring, gentle, and real!! The ending will blow your mind!!

This was a great book that definitely is breaking the mold for Christian fiction. It's refreshing to read a Christian book that takes place in a dystopian era. You'll find yourself laughing, crying, and will constantly be kept guessing the whole book. This book offers hope in a dark time and reminds us that joy always comes in the morning no matter the circumstance or the time period. I highly recommend it; especially if you're looking for something that is outside the norm for Christian fiction!

I could not put this captivating, amazing book down! It was incredibly engaging, heart wrenching, emotional stirring, and extraordinarily powerful with a precious message for all hearts and minds to hear! This story takes place in a time period that challenges a desire for truth, demands a passion for survival, and a yearning for a love worth fighting for. The beautiful love story is an example of Christ's love for us and how we all need a savior!

I loved this book! I read a lot of Lynn Austin and Tracie Peterson books and I believe Defiant was in the same category- it was entertaining, wholesome, and realistic all at the same time! Futuristic Christian Fiction is new to me, and I loved imagining this story!

I haven't read many Christian fiction books but Defiant has opened a new world to me. The apocalyptic world the story was set in was an interesting new take for me as well and a scary reminder of where the world could end up if they continue to try to take God out of the picture. I enjoyed following Gabe and Rosie's story as well as the unshakeable faith their family had in such dark times. It was a wonderful reminder of what Jesus sacrificed for us and the love we should try to emit as we walk this earth. My only negative would be that after such a great build-up, the ending happened a little too fast for me but I still give it 5 stars because I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading more by Grace Kent!

What a captivating read! This book beautifully paints the picture of the Christian message in a very unique and eye opening way. I found myself encouraged by the reminder that true faith stands in the face of turmoil and difficulty. In the politically emotional world that we find ourselves attempting to navigate, this book is highly relevant and inspiring. It reminds readers that faith is truth and cannot be weakened or changed due to circumstance, emotion, or fear!
Great message and inspiring characters - a truly powerful story.

incredibly inspiring story of unwavering faith in very dark and difficult times. One of those books that's hard to put down. The characters are well developed and the story line is captivating. So much so I wanted to start over after I finshed reading the last page. Weeks later I'm still I finding myself thinking about the story & different aspects of the book. Very well written.

A great piece of futuristic Christian fiction! Full of suspense and adventure! A powerful tale of strength, courage, perseverance, trust, self-sacrifice, forgiveness, and redemption! Gideon's surrender to God and his dependence on The Word is the inspiring and driving force of the story. And the ending took me by surprise! Looking forward to the next book by Grace Kent!

Some stories challenge you to be a better person and this is one of those stories. I Enjoyed the successes and struggles the characters went through to change the world! A tissue box was needed as the plot pulled on my heart strings!

The plot, characters, and background premise of Defiant were extremely unique and interesting to me. I loved how Grace Kent set up the details of this futuristic world. You could tell the author researched survival techniques and thought long and hard about possible "end of world" scenarios due to removal of technology. I loved Rosie's and Gabe's "courtship" and Gabe's relationship with others. It was encouraging to see a group of Christians branch out and share the Gospel in a very dark world. Defiant is definitely a good read that is easy to get glued to and not put down until finished. It's pretty quick and easy to read and would be appropriate for mature teenagers as well as adults who are looking for positive "feel-good" Christian fiction. The rest of the review contains SPOILERS so please do not continue to read this if you haven't read the book...

Some of the specific details of the book were a little unbelievable. I found it difficult to believe that Rosie's pregnancy went undetected for as long as it did and then all of a sudden days after she realized she was pregnant the baby was all of a sudden "kicking up a storm". I also felt the Knights were a little too organized as a group especially since they were anti-government/religion/organizations. It seemed like they were no longer "practicing what they preached" 100+ years after the Last War. The bad guys seemed to be hypocritical of what they originally stood for. But perhaps this is an irony the author wanted to portray.

Finally, some of the relationships between the family seemed too nice. I know they were all Christians but to have everything hunky dory the whole time between Gabe and everyone else like his sisters and best friend was a little weird and too perfect. For example, Peter and Gabe always were OK and best buds and the twin sisters always seemed to get along never fighting with each other or even having sisterly conversations. Maybe there wasn't enough time for that type of character development. Finally, the ending went very fast... there was a lot of time spent on the beginning and middle plots that once Jacob was found out it went almost too fast to be believable...

Overall, its a great first book from Grace Kent and very well written. I haven't been exposed to much Christian fiction so this was a very encouraging and positive read. Grace Kent really shared the Gospel with her readers through this story! I would definitely recommend Defiant to others and am excited to read more of Grace Kent's stories.
