I've read many business books, hundreds, being a CPA with two Masters, in economics and in business, and over 25 years of business experience. Most business books are based on a simple concept, like "loyalty", "quality", "focus", that the author repeats over and over again, like a mantra, as if just one idea were enough to succeed in business. Useless to say, business life is more complex. This book: "Jewish wisdom for Business success" instead, is unusually rich and varied in content. Each chapter deals with a different but important business issues, as can be seen from the title of its chapters: "Making the sale: negotiating techniques from the Torah" or "The humble path: :taking ego out of the entrepreneur". Each chapter takes examples from the Bible and the business world, draws conclusions and offers also several meditation points. The chapter that I preferred is probably:" Dealing with failure: handling failure to secure future success". In this chapter, I found the idea of repentance, applied to business failure. This idea should be in the mind of every businessman, starting from the CEOs of Wall Street and Detroit and certainly in mine. I also liked the idea that, to be successful, you have to combine passion and pleasure, and follow your Authentic Will (in the chapter:" Nothing stands before the Will: Harnessing willpower to succeed in Business"). I strongly recommend to read, study this book and meditate on its lessons.
Why i interested by this book? because jews and chinese are the greatest businessmen in the world. and i want to learn how to achieve great success like those 2 races. And after finished this book, i learned the mindset of jews businesmen. They have great mind set and vision how they see business, not just as money source but also spiritual view about it. very recommended!!
Overall, the book not only provides practical advice on business acumen but also delves into the impact of culture and ethics on business success.
It shows how important the combination of ethics and business, education and knowledge, community support, adaptability and innovation, and long-term thinking are to business.
INSIGHT FOR BUSINESS: Your business can and should be extraordinary. By ensuring that every part of your business is fully filtered through the intellect, you have a considerable advantage over competitors. Most people are guided by emotions—human nature simply acts that way. By being able to rise above that, your business becomes more effective and successful than those of your competitors. INSIGHT FOR LIFE: By not allowing emotion to completely dictate your choice of friends or even life partner, your relationships will be considerably more successful and fulfilling than those who use their feelings as the most important barometer of relationship success. Allowing logic and intellect to regulate your relationships creates a quantum leap in their quality and longevity.
This is basically a motivational book to do good business or in general to live a better life. Although authour has tried best to relate everything to the Hebrew Bible, there is nothing deeply related to Jewesh religion. whatever he says in the book is a common sense things, and it can be connected to any religion like islam, hindu or buddhism. If you want to learn few bible stories and motivation at the same time, this is the book for you.
It gave me perspective into a different business mentality and it's interesting even you are not religious. Do I learned something from the book? I think no because it is very generic. But it made me reflect on my own mistakes and achievements.
Rabbi Levi & Sam present time-tested truths prom the Torah, Talmud & Midrash. Save for the input of Jewish Kabbalah, the position espoused by the authors falls within the Judeo-Christian work ethics. Now we can put to rest the 'Herring Theory'. More than a good work. A masterpiece of a book... & a treasure.
Knowingly or unknowingly devoid of that smack/magical knowledge to endure one's lifelong quest to achieve maximum financial success. Does tell you to never be afraid of making decisions or moving forward. My only take-away.
Yes, the Torah is a business book, or the Bible for Christians. Great book to read that it's OK to earn a good if not wealthy income for providing good or great products and services.
I didn't learn anything about Jewish wisdom that I didn't already know and anything about business success that basic common sense didn't already tell me.
Amazing book, taught me how to work using guides from the torah. To remain strong, dedicated by will power, how to negotiate, to conquer fear. The most important i think was the meditation aspect of it. Made me conscious of meditation and how to meditate. i believe with practice you become learned enough.
