2.5* for the story and 1* up for Zachary Webber’s performance on the audio

To be honest, I went for this book due to Zachary Webber’s participation in the audio. The author is new to me and I didn’t know the other narrator. But I saw it was a second-chance romance and besides, it was read in duet and I love such audios, so it was a double win for me. I had to listen.
The story was cute, sweet and sexy with a touch of emotions and drama here and there. Plotwise it was kind of predictable for the most part but it managed to surprise me a time or two. It was good for in-between books – not overly dramatic and a nice second chance romance and all in all a heartfelt story.

Zachary Webber was his awesome self as usual and nailed the character, putting so much emotion to his performance. I loved his act and it was good to hear him in duet although the female narrator Lacy Laurel sounded a bit off for me. It wasn’t bad per se, but I couldn’t get used to her way of pronunciation and her voice in general. I enjoyed the duet performance though.

The beginning was a bit slow and I couldn’t feel this insta love from the past and the feelings they still shared after all these years, but little by little some things started to unravel and the story got more dynamic. To be honest I loved the final part the most with all the action, unexpected events and intense moments.

To sum it up, this was a nice second chance romance with a good duet performance in audio.

5 star review Remnants (A Golden Beach Novel) by Kim Loraine

Audio Review:

Remnants is a second chance at love story by new to me author Kim Loraine and why I have not read her before I have no idea. The narration from Zachary Webber and Lacy Laurel was on point and added to my enjoyment of this story.
Ms. Loraine had me invested from the first to the last chapter with the story she wove of Fire Captain Carson Sullivan and the woman who broke his heart, his first and only love, Sloan Thomas.
The chemistry between Carson (Sully) and Sloan was intense and I found them both easy to relate too. A sweet, romantic story that had quite a few laugh out loud moments but was also at times an emotional roller coaster.

This was a story of love and regret, of lives that could so easily have been different but for the choices made so long ago.Can Sully and Sloan, forgive the mistakes of the past and the choices made and move forward with a future that they both deserve?

The chemistry between Carson (Sully) and Sloan was intense and I found them both easy to relate too. This was a great book to listen to and I look forward to reading/listening to more from Kim Lorraine.

Sloan struggles with emotions as she moves into her grandfather's house. He left it to her when she passed away. Moving into his house will force her to face a past she ran away from. Sully couldn't believe that Sloan had returned after all this time. He holds many emotions and resentments about their relationship. So does she.

I really enjoyed this book. It was very sweet and very sappy. I felt connected to the characters in the book. Especially one that I won't talk about because bringing him up will create a lot of spoiler type content in my review. I try to keep spoilers out. It's definitely a feel-good type of book. I didn't realize this was the sixth book in a series until after I'd started the book. I'll have to track down the first five.

The only thing I really had an issue with was that most of the time the secondary characters were more in the background than anything. I feel like they should have been in the story a bit more. I also feel like there were scenes in the book that could have been drawn out a bit more. There were others that could have been explained better too.

All in all, this was a beautiful story. It was very sweet and frustrating. It's a story that brings hope and warm feelings. It's just an amazing story. I loved it. I fully recommend.

Remnants is only the second book I have read from Kim Loraine's Golden Beach series and the second book I FLOVED!!

Carson aka Sully and Sloan's story was filled with so much emotion right until the very last page. I loved how Kim didn't make it easy for these two. It wasn't a case of kissing and making up. The angst was spilling from the pages straight into my heart. From teenage sweethearts to grown adults you will be rooting for these two.

The characters and families in the Golden Beach series have so much to offer readers and one day I would love to start at the very beginning. Kim Loraine's stories are so well written and a joy to read.

I can not explain to you what a wonderful writer Kim Loraine is!! I have read all her paranormal romance and her short novella but have not read any of the Golden Beach series. Man, I was missing out!! This book had absolutely everything I look for in a good book. Love, lust, heartache, suspense, mystery and so much more wrapped up in one package.

This book was fantastic! And I fell in love with Sully and Sloan!!!

Sloan and Sully have one heck of a journey! Wow. I love second chance romances and this one is full of heartache, hope, and love. There was a little too much back and forth; and once they were finally on the same page and able to get through their past, I wanted to see more of them in the present. There were a lot of hurdles Sloan and Sully had to get through. It was beautiful watching them find their way back to each other. I love Kim Loraine’s writing and can’t wait to see what is next!

Second chance romance at its best

Fifteen years ago Carson and Sloan broke up and went on with their lives, neither one of them ever finding true love again. But when Sloan moves back home and the sparks are still there can the two get past the anger and hurt from long ago? And what happens when the secret that Sloan had hidden from Carson shows up? Will there be more hatred or will they finally be able to let go of the past? With beautifully written characters and a heartwarming storyline of second chances this was a wonderful read. Once again Kim Loraine does not disappoint.

Remnants is the most recent addition to the Golden Beach series, which consists of a total of 8 interconnected books/novellas. I have not read any of the other books in this series, but that did not affect my enjoyment of this book at all. During the course of the book, there are several couples that make appearances. I could tell that they were featured in other books in this series, but I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything by not having read the other books. Remnants is a second chance romance between two characters that have a 15 year history between them. Carson and Sloan were high school sweethearts who ended up breaking up after a stressful discovery and when Sloan's family moved to another state. Fifteen years later, Sloan moves back to Golden Beach, Virginia and moves into her deceased grandfather's home. Soon after she moves back, she has a run in with Carson. During the course of the book, the reader learns more about Sloan and Carson's relationship in high school and all of the factors that contributed to their break-up. The reader also sees the two of them trying to adjust to the presence of the other in a relatively small town where they continuously run into each other, eventually they try to navigate a new relationship without letting their past issues affect their present. Eventually, their avoidance of the past results in big blow-up between Carson and Sloan. The author does a great job of gradually revealing all of the issues between Sloan and Carson and revealing the truth about what really happened fifteen years ago. I have to admit that I didn't really expect the twists that occurred in this book. At times, I got frustrated with both Sloan and Carson because it seemed like it took them forever to really talk about what happened when they were teenagers. This book is written in 3rd person POV, from the perspective of both Sloan and Carson, in alternating sections. It also ends with a HEA and features an epilogue that takes place approximately 6 months after the last chapter. Overall, I really enjoyed following Sloan and Carson's journey back to each other. I recommend this book to anyone that is looking for an angsty, second chance romance with realistic characters.

Sloan had me wanting to listen to her story again while I either sit in a bookstore or at the library. Even better if there was a beach close by. Her story was one that you'll love to get lost in. And it doesn't hurt that we have a couple of narrators that I love to listen to. They did a great job at bringing this story to life.

Sully seems to fit his name - he seems a little sullen. He lets us see that he has a soft spot but doesn't want others to know. His past is a sore spot but it's come back to bite him in the a**. I liked how Mr. Webber and Ms. Laurel told us the story as a duet. It makes the experience more pleasant. As if we are actually hearing the characters talk to each other. All that was missing was the smell-a-vision.

Ms. Loraine creates characters that the reader can relate to. Each scene moves seamlessly as the story unfolds. She also will make you sad - especially if you are taking care of an elderly parent. There's no way you can't feel sorry for those involved. Our author includes a mystery but doesn't let it overtake everything else that's going on. Listening to a rekindling romance was a treat - just needed to get my chocolate.

I found myself wanting to know more about The Golden Beach series. Good thing that I realized that this can be considered a standalone because i have a lot of catching up to do - other people I want to meet and get to know. After enjoying listening to this one, I don't know that I would read the book. Having someone read to me added to my enjoyment and I think I'd like that to continue. And listening to Mr. Webber do a British accent - fan self.

What an ending to this wonderful series. Sully is the character that we have seen throughout most of the books in this series and I have been waiting for his story. And what a story it is. A second chance love story with his high school love, Sloan, and we get to see them go through their love, loss, pain, forgiveness, and love again. Yes, that is an emotional roller coaster ride throughout the book. This author has the ability to take us on these rides that won't let us off until our hearts are squeezed of all life and then pumped back up again!
Kim Loraine has shown us that she write both contemporary romance as well as paranormal romance and keep us interested in both! I hope somewhere down the road we will get to revisit Golden Beach with all of our favorite characters with their updates.

Kim Loraine has brought us Sully's (aka Carson Sullivan) story in Remnants. I love how he and Sloan reconnected after 15 years. Second chances at love are so rare, and with your soulmate its even better. This listen is full of so many emotions and endearing characters. I love the glimpses into other couples from Golden Beach, the sweetness Sully has for his mom, Zeus the dog, and the shocking twist in this book! I won't give away spoilers, but I never saw that coming. Both Zachary Webber and Lacy Laurel were brilliant in this book. I loved their distinguishable voices for various characters from Sloan, Sully, to the little kids, the British new neighbors, and everyone else. They brought them all to life with their voices and emotions. I could envision so many details in this book. I loved it! This may be my favorite Golden Beach book.

Angsty 2nd chance romance

Firefighter Captain, Carson ‘Sully’ Sullivan has only ever loved one woman...but she walked out of his life 15y ago. Now that she’s back, can he forgive the past hurt and become friends? Sloan Carmichael had to walk away from Carson all those years ago, except she thought that he would come after her...he never did. Now she’s back in Golden Beach to inherit her grandfather’s house and deciding to have a fresh start. She’s moved on with her life, after all she was married for a few years, but seeing Carson is a lot harder than she had anticipated. Can she make peace with her past and Carson?
We met Sully in earlier books and I was really looking forward to his story. There were so many emotional elements packed in this book that I was a sobbing mess! Yes, it’s that good and is worthy of many ‘relistens’!

3.5 Second Chance Stars
I have so many mixed feelings regarding this story. I love second chance romance, and I loved the premise behind this story. However, I didn’t always like the characters, I wasn’t happy with some of their decisions or how they handled things (and I’m not talking about their decisions as teenagers), I’m talking about their decisions as adults and how they handled life going forward. They have a complicated past, and if they ever have a future together I felt that they needed to be more mature and open going forward. I wanted Carson to be more take charge, and I didn’t want Sloane to be less mean (that’s how I felt she was at times). The story was sweet and emotional and I couldn’t fault the narration. Zachary Webber was perfect as Carson.

When they were in high school Sloan and Sully were in love and thought nothing could come between them. Life had other plans and it’s been 15 years since Sloan left town.

Sully has moved on with his life he is close to his family, has a career he loves and a way with woman even if he has never forgotten the one woman he ever loved. When she returns to town the feelings between them are stronger than ever, but will it be their second chance at love or is their past too much to overcome?

This is an emotional story full of emotion and angst. These two have always belonged together but before they can have a future together they must heal from their past. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

When I started this book, I didn't realize it was part of a series! Great surprise for me. Looks like I need to back track some but it didn't take away from following along with this book. It definitely can be read as a standalone.

Carson has lived 15 years without the love of his life. He has made anime for himself in his hometown, but a part of him has been missing since she walked away.
Sloan has tried to move past her love for Carson. She thought she was doing a good job until she comes face to face with him again.
Secrets, mistakes, miscommunications and the hands of others tore them apart years ago. But nothing ever changed their love for each other. This book is about love, forgiveness, and second chances. It's an easy read and beautiful story. Great read!

Audiobook version:

This was a fabulous 2nd chance romance. I loved the characters and their Chemistry. I found the characters very relatable and easy to fall in love with. I felt for them and their journey. Kim has this way of making you fall in love yet still ripping tears from you sooner or later. I loved it.

Narration was great. Lacy and Zachary gave a fabulous performance. They add so much feeling to their narrations. I was quite impressed with the editing and splicing of the narrations. you would never have guessed the narrators were not in the same room. This was a beautiful performance.

Sloan and Carson were head over heels in love in high school, until scandal hits Sloan’s family, and life circumstances happen. When Sloan moved back to their hometown 15 years later, she’s surprised to find Sully there, and they fight the chemistry they’ve always had. They both have to overcome a lot of hurt and heartache with each other before they can move on to a future together, but then another bombshell is dropped on them, making being together seemingly impossible.

This is a sweet love story with some angst, and I’d recommend it.

Golden Beach goodbyes

End of series with the best conclusion we can hope for. Separated for 15 years reminds me of my own 15 years apart. Years at college, last high school years, first loves, first heartbreaks.

Seeing those after all these years can leave you questioning again your feelings.
People move on and are not the same...

The author made it hard although this couple needed it.

This Golden Beach Series of books is complete. Haven’t read them all but the last two encouraged me to try and meet all the other characters.

Enjoyable read.

What an amazing conclusion to such a great series. I’m a sucker for romances where characters have to do work to come back together. The chemistry between Sloan and Sully is undeniable and the book is both adorable as well as deep. The bickering between the two of them is simultaneously amusing and makes them more real. I loved this book and would highly recommend it to anyone. It works great as a stand alone and Kim never disappoints with conceiving drool worthy characters and this fireman is no exception.

Remnants is a sweet love story about two people who were meant to be together. Sloan and Sully were high school sweethearts who thought they would be together forever, but life got in the way. Fifteen years later they get a chance at love again. This story is full of heartache and heart and dreams of being young and in love again. Although it is sad that the Golden Beach series is over I look forward to reading whatever this author writes in the future. Amazing author and an amazing series…definitely get 5 stars! I want a Sully of my own!

Sully has been an anticipated story from The Golden Beach series, and Kim did not disappoint. Remnants had it all for me and I loved every page of it. The chemistry between these characters and all the twists and turns just kept me hooked til the end. It's sad to think of this book being the end of the series, but Kim sure knew how to make an epic ending. Definitely a must read for me and worth above the five stars! Love the whole series and Sully and Sloan's story is definitely a favorite.

What an emotional story. Carson Sullivan is a firefighter in his home town. Sloan Carmichael left suddenly and never looked back. Both headstrong and stubborn. There is a lot of history and not really any answers that they give each other. That's the problem, and it slowly comes to a head. Boy what a secret! I laughed and I cried, it was a very emotional story and well worth the read. I recommend this book by Ms. Loraine

Uncaged Review: Another standalone novel set in Golden Beach. Shows Solan returning to her home town after her Grandfathers death. Keen to put the past behind her and move on but fate has other plans. I haven’t read many of the Golden Beach novels, what I have read I’ve enjoyed also as an added bonus, they can all be consumed at your own reading pleasure without sticking to the list of order. I’m sad to read what I believe to be the end of this series. But think this book rounded everything into a nice big bow. I’m keen to see what’s next for this author.

audiobook review

a interconnected standalone

I was unaware this was one of several interconnected series, when info about other couples was shared I felt lost and on a info overload so that is a treat for fans who've experienced their stories before.

my loss of stars was because this held so much back and forth for the couple and with a incredibly sad twist, personally I wanted more from said twist.

narration was perfection as a personal prefference this howcased why dual narration is a favorite of mine.

After 15 years the teenage heartbreak between Sully and Sloan is still as fresh as ever. Between flashbacks, we get to know the love they shared and as adults, it’s obvious that this isn’t something that will be overcome unless you bring in true love.

The Golden Beach series is full of epic love stories and Remnants is absolutely my favorite. I had no idea what was to come and my heart was broken and mended and set ablaze. 5 Fiery Stars!

Great 2nd chance romance!

This story is fantastic! What more is there to say besides that? The drama of a 2nd chance romance is always the best and Remnants takes it to a whole new level. I ended the book with a smile on my face and a happy sigh coming off my lips. Kim Loraine did an amazing job with this book!

The narration was perfect! The duet with Lacy Laurel and Zachary Webber was done perfectly. It was seamless and made you feel you were right there with the two.

I love second chance stories. Carson and Sloan had a long and painful journey. The
back and forth almost was a little to much. I got annoyed with both of them at times. It was frustrating at times and I almost stopped reading. I'm glad I finished it though. I loved their innocent, powerful, soul crushing love. Despite their annoying behavior, it was a really moving story. I liked it.

Carson and Sloan were high school sweethearts. One day Sloan told him they were moving and that she was pregnant. They both hurt each other and then Sloan left. Then Sloan’s grandfather dies so she comes back to be a teacher. She thought Carson was gone because he had joined military. Then the run into each other. Will they put past behind them? Can there be a second chance?
