I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.
I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).
So far, I've worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer's mill.
This little morsel had Kaleb and Sahara in it so of course I loved reading it.
Kaleb and Sahara look for a present to take to the dinner they are to have with Annie and Zach who have had a son named Rowan. His middle name highlighting his tie to Kaleb.

Another lovely little slice of life, this time we get to catch up with Kaleb and Sahara as they pick out a present for little Rowan (Zach and Annie’s baby). Annie has considered Kaleb family since he saved her life when they were both children but Kaleb still has a hard time understanding emotional connections to anyone but Sahara so he’s learning new things all the time!
Another short story from the newsletter collection, this one has Kaleb and Sahara pondering a suitable gift for their friends’ new baby. While I don’t need to be reminded of Kaleb’s dark past, single-minded adoration of his mate and power over the Psy-net every single time we meet them, I did like the sentiments on display and his discomfort around an infant was amusing.
A lovely little story from the newsletter. It was nice to have a catch-up with Zach and Annie; their story remains my favorite of all the novellas. Oh, and Kaleb and Sahara!
I'm surprised to see so many low ratings, as it was a freebie...how can some downrate a gift from an author? So few do this anymore.
I wouldn't even consider it a short story, more like only 2 scenes. But its a must read for those who love Kaleb. I've been waiting for this scene and imagining it tons of time ever since I read Allegiance of Honor. While it wasn't as dramatic as I had hope, I love how the story stays true to Kaleb's character.
Getting a follow up scene or two with Kaleb and Sahara and Zach and Annie. Kaleb and Sahara bring a baby gift to celebrate his little name sake. Sweet and cute!
This was such a short cute little one shot of absolute cuteness :) Kaleb, Sahara and little Rowan Kaleb Quinn (the child of the girl Kaleb saves when he was younger). Gosh the way things have changed from the first book to now is insane!!! Love every single little bit of this series. Nalini has “super powers” ;)
I like how Nalini Singh has managed to humanise Kaleb. Not sure I really appreciate the gift myself though... I think I'd prefer something a bit more substantial, especially since it's from Kaleb... hahaha!
This one was very sweet. Loved that even though Kaleb wasn't sure about what a baby needs for a gift, he and Saraha came up with the perfect present and showed him that his connection will always be there.
A free short story, 15.1 in the Psy-Changeling paranormal romance series, revolving around two races: the Psy and changelings. The couple focus is split between Kaleb and Sahara and Zach and Annie. If you're interested, there is a chronological listing of the Psy-Changeling books on my website.
My Take I know, I know...I'm always giving these stories a "5". There's a reason for that — they're dang good! And this one made me laugh and cry. Yes, it will make a big difference if you've been reading the series from the beginning, as there is quite a lot of background that impacts how "Rowan" will affect you.
It's all character-driven, and knowing the past histories of the characters makes such a difference, especially when it comes to Kaleb. Knowing how he grew up, how awful it was for him, how powerful he is now, makes "Rowan" all that much more poignant, especially with this third person protagonist point-of-view from Kaleb's perspective.
Of course, knowing the emotional history of the Psy also makes an impact on how one interprets Sahara's bewilderment at Kaleb assuming she knows all about gift choosing, lol. Hmmm, come to think of it, isn't this how most men see women as well?
As for Kaleb having — friends?? Friends?? Who'd've thunk!
The Story One never knows how fate will turn, and then Annie Quinn discovers the boy who saved her life. A man feared by all and yet her savior.
One who is absolutely terrified at the idea of social interactions.
I was very confused at first because I had no idea who this Rowan character was. I even went through my Allegiance of HonorHonor of Allegiance notes to see if he was a newly introduced character who’d maybe get his own book in the Psy-Changeling Trinity spin-off and nothing. And then Nalini mentioned in her August newsletter that she wrote this story because of high demand by the fandom and I was like……..who on earth is this why do I always forget 83% of male characters, even in my favourite series.
Anyway: turns out he’s Zach and Annie’s baby and this story builds on the time that Kaleb saved Annie, which I did expect to be a highly requested story. In reality, it’s about Kaleb and Sahara trying to find a fitting baby present for Rowan, because they both realise how important it is and that it needs to mean something, but are both also really hopeless at it. And to be really accurate: it’s actually Sahara coming up with ideas while Kaleb plays with her hair -- because he supposedly “realised he’d been bested” lmao my man you didn’t even try you argued for literally five seconds -- and thinks about the best parts of their relationship, and Nalini reaffirming that these two are still wildly in love, as if that ever was in doubt, ha. Added bonus: pupcub revelations!
God I just cannot get enough of Kaleb! That man is just a freaking god!
At the end of Allegiance of Honor, we learned that it was Kaleb that saved Annie when they were both kids. Annie had just had her baby called Rowan and had been waiting to give him his middle name until she found the Cardinal who saved her. She now names him Rowan Kaleb Quinn and Kaleb will now protect that child for the rest of his life.
I laughed like crazy when he and Sahara were trying to find a baby gift for Rowan, it was hilarious! But they ended up picking the perfect gift and the little family meeting was one of the best scenes in the whole series. I loved it.
spoiler-ish; from beginning Kaleb had met Annie long before he’d ever known Zach. Kaleb hadn’t been able to free himself then, but he had been able to help Annie, had used his vast telekinetic strength to lift the train compartment off her crushed leg so that she could be rescued. And she hadn’t forgotten.
Not only had she remembered, she’d held the memory close enough that her baby’s name was Rowan Kaleb Quinn. Kaleb wasn’t quite sure how he felt about that. It wasn’t the use of his name that concerned him. It was the impact the connection would have on an innocent child’s life.

This is one of the free short vignettes that Singh provides for fans of the Psy-Changeling series. This one is about Kaleb, Sahara and the aftermath of the meeting between them and Zach and Annie and their son Rowan. Kaleb is "dealing" with the increased connections in his life. Kaleb and Sahara are invited to Zach and Annie's home and the two are engaged in finding an appropriate gift for Rowan. This one is one of my favorite vignettes because I just love Kaleb and Sahara and I enjoy seeing them be happy.
Little Rowan Kaleb Quinn. Named for Kaleb for saving the baby's mother Annie as a child. Invited to meet Rowan, both Sahara and Kaleb go to Annie and her mate Zach's home to welcome the baby into their lives. Kaleb, being tied only to Sahara-his anchor to everything-he doesn't understand the honor they've given him, but as Sahara does, she explains that he only has to be who he is to protect the child.
I don't know why I find Kaleb so captivating but he's one of my favorite characters. I love his and Sahara's relationship. Kaleb's sheer bafflement at why someone would want to name their child after him, let alone invite him over to meet the child, is kinda adorable. He's such a stoic block of ice except when it comes to Sahara. These sorts of things are so far outside his comprehension. But I enjoy seeing him navigate the new experiences. And Sahara is always there to support him.
"For her, he'd burn down empires and destroy civilizations. Except she kept asking him to save them and so he had to turn away from the darkness and attempt to walk toward the light."
Kaleb and Sahara spending two and a half hours online looking for a present for baby Rowan would just melt the heart! Sahara is correct about him being a pretty great gift giver though! These two are the usual adorable!
Kaleb is in many ways still very socially awkward. However, he then turns around and does something that proves why Sahara loves him so much and that yes, he is a decent person even if he is scary powerful and sometimes rather dark. Kaleb may still be figuring out what it means to have friends, and even extended family in this case, but he seems to be doing fairly well all things considered.

I swear my heart just explodes for this couple. Every little snippet I get of them just makes me love them more and I love getting to see little pieces of Kaleb's character growth.
Loved reading this story again! Just so cute! Loved the search for an appropriate gift for Rowan!
*First read August 22nd, 2017* Aw, it was so great to have Kaleb officially meet the child that bears his name because he only exists because Kaleb saved his mom's life!
Psy-Changeling #15.1 This free read off the author's website features Keleb, Sahara, Zach, Annie & Rowan. It's short but very sweet and gives us even more insight to Keleb's personality. Enjoy!
