Street Queen and the Plug

Rate this book
The streets have never met a female as cold as Lorielle Swift. At the age of seventeen, Lorielle took a loss that would change her life forever. Her brother, Mario, was killed, and she vowed that the culprit would not get away with his murder. Mario’s last words to Lorielle, was that he wanted her to take over his spot as the king of the streets. Honoring her brother’s wishes, and taking everything that she learned from him, Lorielle slowly started to build her empire in the streets of Philadelphia. Being a woman who shoots first, and asks questions never, she becomes both feared and respected in the streets. With her man, Zymere, by her side, they rise to the top as a power couple in the underworld. As the dollars add up, so does the problems that the couple face. The past comes back to bite in a horrible way, a way that isn’t expected at all. Lorielle may be in so deep, that she could possibly drown.

At the age of fourteen, Zymere lost his mother and father to death, and his older brother to prison. Zymere’s grandmother took him in, but three of his cousins were also living with her. It was hard for her to financially take care of all of them, so he turned to the streets to help his grandmother out. The grind pumped through his veins, so it wasn’t long before he promoted himself from the block to being the plug. Zymere’s sudden increase in power ruffled some feathers. His cousin, Shameek, was the main person praying on his downfall. Zymere learns the hard way that you should never underestimate you opponent. The question is, how can you underestimate a person that you never knew was against you?

Laila is Lorielle’s big sister, and life isn’t peaches and cream from her. While her sister is living in another state, Laila is struggling to take care of herself and her son, Zion. With Zion’s father being locked up, Laila settles for a minimum wage job to handle her responsibilities. Everything is turned upside down when she is fired from her job, and gets some shocking news that will change her life. Being a single mother becomes so overwhelming, Laila is willing to do anything to be able to provide her baby. When she gets a job at a nightclub, she realizes that she’s in over her head when other girls that work with her start disappearing.

In this tale of love and deceit, true colors will be revealed, and this crew will learn not to trust a soul. Not even the person standing next to them.

Really enjoyed this book and the characters were very interesting and developed with room for growth. It moved at such a steady pace and I was into it that I had finished before I knew it and still wanted more. This book had it all from drama, action, jealousy, secrets and betrayal that made a enjoyable read. Their were a few errors, but didn't take away from the story; overall, it was a good read and can't wait to see what happens next after that cliffhanger ending. Job well done Jasmine Williams.

OMG

WOW this book was full of surprises. I loved every bit of it too. Lorielle was a no nonsense train to go ride or die chick. She goes hard for those she love especially Zy and he definitely rides for her. Jairo and Laila finally stopped playing. I'm glad they did so she can see how a REAL man moves, not like that weak little boy Quan. I am still shocked at Makayla would have never guessed that. I also hope Valentina doesn't come in and cause problems for At and Lorielle. I cannot wait food the next installment I need it ASAP please don't keep me waiting to long.

Good read

I enjoyed this book. I love reading books that have women in it who are strong. The characters were very developed. It kept me interested from the beginning. Even as you were reading the book, it kept me intrigued. I really wanted to give it 5 stars but there were some editing issues throughout the book that was more than a few simple errors. I cannot wait to read part 2.

This is not a spoiler alert, but I need book 2 like yesterday!!! Excellent storyline and character development. I’m anxious to see where this storyline is going to go. I know every story can’t have a happy ending but I’m really hoping that Laila gets a lovely end! I recommend this five star read and look forward to reading more from this author.

Page turner

This book was so intense. I read it in one day. I got mad when I realized I was at the end. Now I'm waiting on part two like a kid waiting on Christmas. Anxiously waiting.

Slow Action But O.K

Lots of grammatical errors. Storyline was good but seems to be slow in developing. There are a few twists that seem to be developing. I'm not sure if I will continue to follow this one.

Flip the script

So let me tell how crazy this story is. The first jump off was the Ike and Tina Turner fight, and Ms Dee with the follow through. That whole square up had me rolling. From the beginning I knew Lorielle was going to be a problem, because her mouth was slick. A slick tongue can get you in a world of trouble and she had to find out the hard and ante up that cash. Even being a Queen Pin it's imperative to listen to your King. The story isn't all drugs and fast money, the characters drop a few jewels on you, along with some jokes. Laila has her hands full, with a triflin baby daddy, his ignorant mama and sister, and a so called friend. Just when everything seems to go right for Laila, she has to clock a b****, which pushes her ten spaces back. Jairo, he's not your average fresh on the scene lay up with everything type of dude. Jairo is the total opposite , his personality is respectful and as you continue reading his intellect is on another level. Jairo is a man with a vision, he pays attention to interests and a person overall self. With any story there is always a snake, in this story there are 2. One I knew for sure and the other blew me. Just know you can't help everybody, looks like the crew is about to fall apart from the one person they never saw coming.
