Jack Kardiac was born in Siloam Springs, Arkansas and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was raised on a steady diet of comic books, Twilight Zone episodes, and Alfred Hitchcock paperbacks. He watches Die Hard every Christmas and Peter Jackson’s King Kong once every summer. In reality, he likes to make people think, laugh, and change the world for the better. When he writes, he enjoys having people desperately running for their lives. Preferably from a giant monster.

Jack currently lives in the remote jungles of Indonesia where he teaches Creative Writing to young, impressionable minds.

And yes, he has a genetic clone in America.

(I was provided a copy of this book for a honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own).

This was an interesting collection of short stories. Each one leads you in one direction and then spins you around until you are facing a new way. I was impressed with the way some of them genuinely took me by surprise. I didn't expect the direction some of them book and that made me curious about each following story. I kept trying to figure out what the twist would be.

I liked the way there was a prologue to the set of stories. I also liked how many of them connected together. It was fun to read a name or have someone react to something that happened in a previous story. I liked the way things were all connected into one universe, that was unique for a collection of short stories.

Many of these stories had religious overtones to them. Some were more heavy handed than others. I am not an overly religious person, but that aspect didn't take me out of the stories. They weren't preachy except for maybe the last one. I did find that one a bit much with its tone and message but the rest were more subtle and flowed with the story.

This is definitely an enjoyable and fun collection of stories. It feels like a bigger story which made it an enjoyable read.

Great stories

Somewhat intertwine, and I found the word squint, or some form of it, in the stories. My favorite, was the guy leaving the film festival!

Ditto to what other reviewers have already said! After reading the first few stories and realizing there were plot twists involved, I was hooked. I tried to guess where each story was going to ultimately lead. I too liked the way the stories tied to each other.

Squint

A surprising blend of short stories all tied together neatly in the end. For readers who prefer quick, easy stories that stand alone but somehow mesh perfectly this one's for you.
