Exiled: A Tale of Abod le A'nor

Rate this book
Bess has secrets. Dangerous ones.

Disguising herself as a maid at Tishan’s most infamous House of Horté, she hopes to hide from the devastating consequences of her painful history. After witnessing a brutal attack, Bess knows she must set aside her own fears to help rescue Selina from the grim fate of sexual slavery to the House’s vicious master.

When Bess spies a ghost from her past, the secrets she has buried deep threaten to engulf her, and ruin all her plans.

But a tide of unrest has gripped her world. Kings and those descended from the Ancient Voce jostle for preeminence; and the mysterious Shadow Creatures stir within their prisons of stone. The culmination of the ancient prophecy draws nigh.

Now Bess must fight the selfish and the malignant intentions of both man and magical creature if she hopes to attain freedom for both those she pities, and those she loves.

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from the author*

This story had an extremely interesting plot. The sex made it spicy, the darker things naturally more frightening, and some of the characters were pretty interesting. Bess took some time to warming up, but Selina was interesting. It was more in the way she seemed to contradict herself, doing one thing but showing another. I did like Bess's tale, though, and Jard's. It's three stars because of the promise this book has, but I left the rating at a three because it just wasn't for me. The writing style, while interesting in itself, was very hard to follow, making the reading flow extremely jagged for this particular reader. I was doing a lot of re-reading and having to remember all these phrases and words and titles. At one point I got the gist of it, but it was still much to hard to read because I kept concentrating on how to make the reading experience smoother than actually paying attention to the story itself. So this wasn't for me, and I won't be reading the next book, but I seriously liked where it was going and what I generally got from it, so if you're into the high fantasy type reads with unique words in unique worlds, check it out.
