finished translating this for exr and i'm currently doing the extras.

this novel is meant to be comedic and the way it achieves that is through exaggeration, puns, and dramatic characters. the main character, Feisha, is grovelling, silver-tongued, opportunistic, and shameless. his shamelessness is really hilarious in certain scenes. this is the first time i'm translating something that has so many damn puns and references and i have learnt that translating is really hard work and requires a very good grasp of cultural and linguistic differences. it is so very difficult to translate wordplay. i stand in awe of translators who not only translate those but manage to write funny and witty translations.

the other difficulty i encountered was the translation of language-specific idioms. in Chinese, there are many four-word idioms, called chengyu, and they are a total pain to translate. each of the four words is usually deeply meaningful. when put together, the idioms usually convey something quite profound and poetic. that effect is of course, usually totally lost in translation because they often require an entire sentence to convey in English. don't even get me started on puns using these four-word idioms.

this was generally a lighthearted and enjoyable read. i enjoyed the humor and the wordplay and i love reading about the more reflective parts -- the characters' views on relationships/life. but i think this book (it's self-published) could have done with a good editor. the author's language is awkward at times and there are typos/grammatical errors. there are times when i really have no idea what a word or sentence means, and i end up translating by guessing at its most likely meaning, lol. sometimes, even my friend, a native Chinese speaker, can't parse the meaning.

anyway, i'm excited about what novel i'll get to do after i finish with the extras. i hope it's something fun.

★★★★☆ [4/5 stars]

If you finished this book and you didn't even laugh out loud at least once, I'm telling you, you're dead inside. I've even forgotten to count how many times my stomach literally hurt from laughing because there's too many of those hilarous moments. Feisha, oh, Feisha! He's the absolute gold in this novel. I so loved his sassiness, his wittiness (with the use of his nonstop mouth), his sarcastic retort and his usual nonsense. His big mouth is his advantage and and also his disadvantage. The nonsense that comes out of that mouth (and his quick wit) can get him out of difficult situations but more than anything, it also gets him in a lot of trouble! Isefel (his ML) also stated (from the last extra chapter) that he loved to kiss Feisha's lips the most out of his body parts because then he can shut his lover up. And can I mention that I always freaking loved their ship dynamic, one is long-winded and a chatterbox while the other one is reticent and indifferent. They have opposite personalities but they fit so well!

The development of his relationship with all the 'creatures' in Noah's Ark is so good, especially his hilarious banter with Gin. And their gossip moments are the best! They even started a gossip group among themselves. Feisha's natural talent for matchmaking is just also perfect! The humor of this novel is so abundant from start to the end but there's also a bit, just a little bit, of angst near the end. But because this  novel was just made to be hilarious, after the angst was resolved, it came back to its usual humor that was even funnier.

If you really want a light, entertaining and hilarious read, you should really try this. Reading this novel is so enjoyable that I finished this in one sitting. I swear, even if this won't become your favorite, this will definitely not waste you time.

Web novel, completed, 100 chapters + 23 extra side stories.

Incidently stumble on this web novel and i cant stop reading it, laughing all the way. I've never met an mc that running his mouth soooo quickly like Shi Feisha, even much more than let say... Percy Jackson. Feisha was so witty, so silvertounge, so sly, so unbelieveably shameless, soooo i dunno what... mad hatter??!? His interactions with the vampire Gin were a top notch comedic duo never failed to crack you up.

The story began with Feisha lost his job as a hotel front desk manager with 'messy' arrangement. Thus, while seeking for new job, he wooed into a high paid employment of Noah Ark Hotel for a year contract. Problem was, Noah Ark was... not an ordinary place. It's a gateway place between 9 realm, a stopover for heaven, hell and all other 7 world in between. And more, a door to human world only open annually. Poor Feisha (or more precisely, poor every other creatures that passed the hotel on Feisha's time of duty)!

Although full of parody, the story progress in warm friendship (and lovey dovey) tones. The crew banter a lot, but they also have each other back. So when Gin and Hughes went missing in Genesis troubled times, Feisha arranged a team of rescue. But its Feisha lack of luck... so anything that could go wrong, will go wrong.

***

On side note, kudos to ExR translation team that working hard for every pun and joke, explaining all the cultural and pop reference, so the reader could enjoyed them. 👍

Leído pero abandonado.
Es decir que leí toda la novela, pero ya no pude con los extras.
Personalmente, no me gustó. Tiene un "humor" muy ácido/sarcástico (?) qué sinceramente no me causaba gracia, o de tanto modismo o quizá la traducción, no se entendía bien y era como que la qué de qué (?) ok?
Así que no me gustó xD
Y eso que tenía expectativas, es un ángel caído x un humano 😶.

Well, I just remembered that I read this sometime back in 2019 xD
I've forgotten most of the plot by now- but the characters were actually hilarious. I don't know if my humour back then was just a bit off or if it really was funny as hell, but apparently it was ridiculous enough to suddenly remember it over 6 years later!

oh, guava.

I jotted some notes (internally) regarding my conclusion after reading this. I ain't summarizing the PLoT, I'm just here to state some things that made me want to punch some pillows (good & bad wacks).

Factor number uno: Feisha! I LOVE HIM, HES MY BRO. We bros from another mother. Boy loves his cash just like me. Relating the reader to the protagonist made me clapa clapa my hands. Also another thing to note is that he's a little shit at times.

Factor number not uno: Once I finished reading I noticed that everyone who was in a relationship or interested in someone in this, were very possessive. LIKE IT WAS JUST A MUSt fOR ONE OF THE TWO in a relationship (or not) TO HAVE SOME "HES MINE!" energy and I like that in most cases, but it doesn't mean it has tO BE SEEn in ALMOST EVERY DAMN GUY in The SAMe StORY.
---
and ANOTHER THING! All of them are kinda mean. Like no one gives two shits about anyone in this goddam world. There's a lot of moments where the characters are just straight up TWO FACED. And speaking of most of 'em being mean, they reminded me of the "same face syndrome" just switch "face" with personality. I'm not saying that all of 'em were the samesame, but once you start reading you start to see similarities.

Factor number unouno: Hughes and Gin... These two made me clench my butt so much... not in a good way, in an angry way. Why didn't the author just make these two the main characters, HM!? I feel like I saw a lot more occur with these two than anyone ELSE. Okay, that's a lie. I feel like these two should have had their own story! That would have saved me so much time 'cuz I definitely would have skipped it! And I had to continue reading their flipping scenes so I wouldn't miss any important detAILS.

Factor number last: I don't even recall the damn angels name. It sounded like a name from fricking transformers and its a real angels name, yupyup. I dont reCALL IT because he also frustrated me! Like at times I felt the story had some holes, legit holes. Anyways, why the frustration, why the stress???? Okay, for instance, I thought that he was going to make Feisha an angel, okay!? Like I really thought that something special would happen but no. I mean something good happened for fricks sakes but I WANTED MORE. WHERES HIS DAMN WINGS. GIVE MY BOY WINGS .-. That angel also just floated around in his pool of gold. I also thought that he would turn out be two faced as well, since Isefel mentioned that being with a human was foolish 'cuz they shellllfishhh (he was told this by the big man). Maybe in the end Fisha really wasn't granted what he got. Maybe hes GONNA DIE. But it ended so hmp, who knows.

In the end, I wanted to give this 3.5 but heh. I ended up cackling and feeling embarrassed, so that meant that I was really into it until it started to gradually pull me away from feeling giddy TO BUTT CLENCHING. But if you want to do some butt exercising I recommend this to you!

The book is full of humor - smart, sarcastic and to the point humor. The author has used many beautiful word play and pun but because I read the translated version, I missed many of them. I wish I could read the original language! Still, the effect wasn't reduced to dust. I laughed to my heart's content from the beginning to the end.

Plot is very simple and touches only romantic side. Each sub-stories are related to couples' quarrel and end with happy endings. Nothing too complicated or life altering. Only 3-4 chapters contained some serious deep thinking conversations between characters. Rest is all just fun.

Truly enjoyed the Novel! It was very funny! I enjoyed the MC’s character a lot, he was refreshing! All the characters were awesome as well, they had their own personalities but in some way or another they always helped each other out! The ending and the extras were awesome! They were finally able to be together! ❤️❤️

I like the main characters, it's different from other characters who will be similar to each other. The main character is really annoying, witty and love to curse even he's the only human in the hotel

I. Love. Spirit. Hotel!!!!! At first, I'm like it's Hotel Transylvania except it was Danmei and the MC is human. Heck no, it's more than that, way way more. There's no comparison. I love each character, I love that each has their own personality. I love Feisha and Gin's antics, made me laugh all the time, then there's Layton who they made fun together, gods, I'm crying, gonna miss them so much. If I have a reading list of books I wanted to read again Spirit Hotel will be on the list, I really love them so much.

If Feisha makes me roll in the floor laughing, then there's Shamal and Jesse who made me cry. I'm a shitty on those kind of romances.

Feisha will be one of my favorite character of all times, I swear!! His shamelessness exceeds every shameless MC/ML I've ever known, he can cause war. Lol!!

Anyway, I'm so thankful for the author who made me laugh and cry until the very end... The interview killed me. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
